Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I met these folks while out in Walvis Bay. Absolutely incredible folks who spend a lot of time in INCREDIBLY remote parts of Namibia. It's the second most desolate country in the world and those seals can sometimes be in the most remote parts of the Skeleton Coast. Namibia is a stunning country with amazing people; if you have the means to go in a responsible way, I highly recommend it.
Love it when he releases the seal and says, โItโs a pleasure.โ Way cool
The way those seals run is so great. Flomp flomp flomp oh shit here he comes flompflompflompflompflomp
I thought this was a repost and wanted to watch it anyway because it always makes me feel good to see it... I was so happy to realize it was new content.
These guys are awesome.
looks like a fun afternoon at the beach! saving pups n running around
The seals must be so afraid but I hope they know the outcome turns out to be beneficial for them and arenโt too traumatized. Awesome work these guys do
Just a few notes:
First, those are sea lions. If it walks, it's a sea lion. If it caterpillars, it's a seal! (Minus monk and fur seals which are actually sea lions)
Second, please don't try this at home! Seal finger is a thing and looks really painful. Also, if you live in the USA, please note that the Marine Mammal Protection Act has made it illegal to approach sea lions within 50 yards. If you really want to scratch this itch, try signing up to volunteer with a marine mammal center.
If seeing this upsets you then I urge you to make an effort to reduce your consumption - of single-use plastic waste, waste in general, and food that is produced or caught in ways that is massively detrimental to the environment and wildlife. Our taste for seafood encourages producers to decimate ocean populations and pollute and cut corners to meet the demands of a human consumption that far outstrips the natural worldโs ability to recover.
What these people are doing is extremely noble, but we canโt rely on a few good samaritans to make a difference when theyโre chipping away at a mountain with toothpicks
These are awesome guys!
