okay this is our a brand-new rescue we just barely got it in this is a little baby female Cooper's hawk it's about oh two and a half three weeks old and she fell out of her nest in a yard that had a big great day and the down in st. George and I just happened to be in st. George do an Eagle Court of Honor and so I was able to pick this one up without having to drive as 120 mile round trip to go get it and so our little friend here she's hungry good yeah through the evening beautiful little Hawks highly migratory we've actually they've banded the Cooper's hawks like this and the go shoot mountains of north western Utah and retrieve them all the way down and into Chile South America and they hunt primarily other birds and so they're quite a good little bird hunter they had a lot of sparrows and starlings and and the Asiatic doves and all of those kinds of things but they also take robins and in some of the songbirds as well so it's just whenever they get a opportunity to catch that she's a cute little thing and so just another another creditor raised and she thinks she wants more so I'll go ahead and throw out just a little bit more food yeah you're a hungry little thing aren't you voracious little monsters dropped out there take one more nope you're good okay good we got your phone let's see what it feels like yeah you got a pretty good good propyl there okay [Music] [Music] sorry all right [Music] yeah don't think you're vicious vicious when he came in he had looks like a deformed beef or a worm stuck on his beak that was stuck on there and I think what happened is the warmand she had eaten the worm and it put over the top and it dried on his beak so I stopped and isn't wasting doesn't just been a little while later it came on little guy you can go join the other rabbits at Kay's house tomorrow oh maybe the big pledges will help beat you maybe on your perch no paraben are you hungry so we released a few days ago [Music] [Applause] hopefully he'll come right back to see what's there you know how many people you know get really excited with dead rats as a gift if you would like to help us feed critters please visit our site at www.uh.edu are incredibly grateful for so many who help us help critters [Music] this is a Western Tanager he came to us from Beaver Utah after a cat caught him luckily the cat didn't puncture his skin and and do any horrible damage but he did rip out his entire tail so his missing his rudder he is eating for us they eat primarily fruit and insects so if I get the door open door open that's looking too badly some insects down here these are meal worms and those black fly larva grubs that you people have been sending to us thank you very much you know I've got some cherries and oranges right there too so close the cage I can settle back down where you can eat hopefully his tail will go back in with just a couple of weeks and then he'll be able to be released a bit nervous with me filming beautiful little birds they do love nectar and fruit and insects this is the male okay we're going to release our little Tanager today came in a couple of weeks ago I think was caught by a cat if I remember correctly I'm not sure so let's see if we can catch the silly little thing without getting out of the box a tough corner here hey manager look at that pretty big guy I know I got you here you're safe you're safe little one yeah you're safe come on outside you get to go back to the wild where you belong yes Cody I know you're trying to help - okay Oh bite bite my goodness sakes like like you could possibly bite me to hurt me you silly little thing okay this is our little Tanager and and I'm gonna let it go you ready little one and what's nice is we've got these lilac bushes and lots and lots of trees and our bird feeders are all filled and so our little candidatures got lots and lots of food sources for for it and let let's just go back to the wild and be a little wild bird we have lots of tanagers that come in to our feeders this time of year so we put put bugs out in the feeders dried bugs because they love lots of bugs and they're good at catching them and they love fruit too so you can put little slices of orange or apple out by your feeders and they love those he's quite happy out there not my locks with all the sparrows likes with that food out for them close by I've been in the screen tannic case and they are while this can be yep there was three so if they the lilacs are safe for them to hide and it's real close to where our bird feeders and the bird fountain is right over here so they should be able to see some familiar things Kay's been using the just trifle of dirt for night crawlers and mill worms and this little dish for a fruit and vegetable and water dish so we're trying to provide them with things that might look familiar to them to find their food [Music]
