hello and welcome to Madrid. You join me from the Neptuno lounge here at terminal 4 I just got off the Iberia A340-600 inbound from Brussels and the next leg on this trip takes me back to London Heathrow the British Airways 777-300ER to my relief the inbound flight dropped me off in the terminal 4 satellite pier the same terminal my connecting flight would later depart from. Madrid One World Hub has plenty of signs and it's a case of following the green signs or s, for satellite. I ended up taking the long way around going through duty free to get into the main departure lounge before trying to find the Neptuno Lounge. It really wasn't well signed or perhaps if you look out for the right name you can find out a little easier. The signs in the terminal direct you towards the AENA lounge rather than the Neptuno, and you'll find it on the upper level of the departure lounge accessed via these rather jazzy lifts. The main seating and buffet area are right at the front of the lounge where you go in, but first things first let's have a shower I think there's four showers and they're available to anybody who enters the lounge I feel a lot better now after that! So what have we got? You've got a hair dryer, some wipes, a bin. There's a hand towel, big towel and a bath matt. some shower gels which i just sort of ripped into. toilet, and somewhere to put your stuff! From back to front then, the showers are down on the left here with the toilets located just off the seated area. Back to the buffet and let's see what's in store. There's the usual selection of bread rolls and soups, A good selection of fresh fruit and a small cheese and cold meats offer. We've also got a really good dessert selection with some ready to go savory snacks and if you need a drink that's ample choice between beers, soft drinks, and wine as well as the usual hot drinks selection. I liberated two beers before heading back down to the far end of the lounge to sample some tapas. I chose a mixture of chicken dishes and various pureed options for the most part they were really filling and fairly tasty, but some of them I wouldn't really choose again, even if I did eat them all anyhow you really cannot go wrong with the beer. Let's check out where our 777 is then. it's golf Sierra tango Bravo Juliet or BJ for short. I chose to sit at the the far end of the lounge as the views are pretty good over the airfield. You can see two runways and plenty of parked aircraft. I do love the old Iberia livery on this a340 oh and there's a really small drink choice down here too which saves you the walk to the main buffet area. Anyhow let's head to the gate. thank you! now although i've flown through Madrid many times before, it's my first time in terminal 4 and Wow I've seen photos and videos of the architecture here online but it really is a fantastic piece of terminal design I arrive at the gate far too early about an hour early in fact as I've forgotten to change my watch to Madrid time. So why does such a big plane plan such a short route? Well it's all down to cargo. Madrid is a really important cargo hub for international airlines group, the group running both British Airways and Iberia. Flights connect in from South America and other words into Europe and Asia. For the same reason Iberia operates a mixture of widebodies on the same route to Heathrow. A mix between the A330-200, A330-300, A340 and their brand new A350. Here's a great thing about gate s21, there's a water fountain right opposite the gate. At ten past five boarding was called. Boarding actually took place over two gates, with those in business taking the gate to their left and the rest of us to the right via our own jetbridge. check out these huge engines Here's the Premium Economy cabin that I'll be in today. Anyone else not really fancy this seat? No window to speak of but good legroom I guess? anyway I'm at the back seat 26k on each Premium Economy seat you'll have a little bag of treats the first thing you have is your Flying Star envelope to donate to the be a charity. Next up is your amenity kit! Yes really, an amenity kit for a sub two-hour flight! We'll check this out along with the headphones later on in the video. By 5:30 boarding was complete. Here's a quick look around the cabin, more on this layout later on. After a short atc delay we push back at 6 p.m. just listen to this engine start up! The taxi out was short, lining up with runway 36 left which is situated inbetween terminal four and it's satellite. Heading 360 degrees north before banking left, our flight time to London was 1 hour and 52 minutes. It's time to check out the loo! There's 5 toilets shared between premium and economy. I always like to head to the back on the triple seven as these toilets are massive as I found out on my recent trip to New York. There's also a baby change in here too back-to-front then in the rear cabin you'll find rows 37 to 50 in BA World Traveler. it's in a 3 3 3 layout. Further forward in between doors 3 & 4 you have a smaller economy cabin, followed by World traveler Plus; the Premium Economy cabin I'm in today. Take notes the premium cabin is in a 2-4-2 layout .That's 44 seats at a 38 inch seat pitch. Now check out the seat map on BA.com when booking the flight: 2-3-2. In the seat you get a 10.6" touchscreen with two USB charging points you also have a net pocket for all your bits and pieces. In the center armrest you've got a drinks holder with a beer which I incidentally paid for along with the fold out meal tray and beneath those you'll find a universal power socket. Overhead you've also got a reading light but unfortunately no air vent. For the in-flight entertainment your control is in the center armrest although it's also a touchscreen. The in-flight map is practical but basic and there's a reasonable choice of TV film and music along with this special Valentine's playlist as I took this flight on the 11th of February a couple of days before Valentine's Day. I have experienced this Panasonic system before on my flight to New York, albeit with a smaller screen and this largest green suffers from the same problems: It's slow has heavy motion blur and the resolution is quite poor. Compare this to the Iberia Premium Economy IFE I experienced a few hours earlier on there A340 and there's clear night and day between the two. Here's a closer look at the noise cancelling headphones they're fairly reasonable and are much better than the in ear option you get in economy. On the IFE system there's a chat feature which I couldn't really get to work there's also an option to view your content on the screen again I couldn't get this to work either. Now here's how to get the secret upgrade on today's flight. As this is an internal european flight the only classes that BA sell are economy (Euro Traveller) or business (Club Europe) however as the aircraft is in a long-haul configuration around 72 hours before the flight ba release the Premium Economy cabin for seat reservations. Meaning that for the seat selection fee of £22 you can sit in a much bigger and more comfortable seat for the same price as everyone else sitting way back in economy. As we cross over the English Channel let's see what's inside our amenity kit. Now I'm fairly sure the only reason you get this kit on this flight is because the headphones come in the same plastic bag as the amenity kit. You'll find a small my mask a pair of flight socks a pen toothbrush and toothpaste there's a lip balm and your flying start envelope. We had a great approaching over London passing over the Docklands before landing on runway two-seven right. I had a great time filming this one I'm making this trip make sure you check out the previous flight on this trip that I did on Iberia A340-600. Let me know what you thought about the trip in the comments and feel free to subscribe for more videos like this soon. Thanks for watching and we'll see you next time!
