Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
I was at re:Invent and saw this presentation in person and have been surprised that I haven't heard anyone talking about it in the community until I saw an article about it on mmajunkie today. It'll be interesting to see what useful information they'll be able to gather and make use of from all these sensors and the AI.
What are they adding that's different? It sounds like more stats
Just give us the ref cam and STFU!
Does this mean that Amazon will sign UFC to a TV/web service deal?
Lame. It just sounds like in-fight metrics would provide the commentators with a few more lines to spit out during boring fights. Would it have been interesting to have the data about Ngannou's hand speed when he knocked out Overeem? Sure, after the dust settled, but in the moment, everyone's reaction still would have been "Oh my God he just killed him" instead of "Wow, I'd love to know exactly how fast Ngannou's left hand was moving."
It's interesting. A lot of metrics he talked about was absolute bollocks. However the concept is interesting, I'd like to see how it gets visualised.
Like another lad pointed out below, I wonder if this will be available to a corner man if they have the app in front of them on their phone like, would that not give away some key points a fighter wants to keep to themself and their corner/camp?
By default, I wonder how Amazon will use this to market to me?
I want to know how hard punches are. I saw this camera set up at a baseball game one time where they could pause the action or have a replay and move the cameras view around to get better views of what was going on. I want that too. It'd be amazing for fouls and highlights.
It looks good but will fighters have data about their opposition then? Seems a bit unfair I feel.
