that no one's paid you to do it so it's all on spec right so it's like doing them right yeah it's like doing the running man in outer space and not really ever knowing what's gonna become of it never know you'd write this book it took me probably like on and off like four to six months and then editing another year but then once it's done it's another year before it comes out right was there any period of writer's block in it we just were just like I don't see a Macbook I don't see any type of like you just couldn't get it going or you're just right [ __ ] how'd you keep going I mean writer's block is it's just not something I'm afflicted with I'm like so incredibly prolific and talented no I mean writers like me ah yeah that's this is the flex on you can get flex flex freely no writer's block you just don't have the luxury of it when you have like a hundred thousand words to get through mmm it's like you're not sitting there being like oh I'm so precious or adorable with like what I'm gonna write today you just do it but and also like I mean why a it's like an unbelievable like Donald young-adult no I mean like there's that rapper like him yeah young young adult laughing is wild like you have just kids I mean you have people writing about just crazy stuff it's like if you look on the news right now it's even like everyone's like freaking out being like oh my god you know these like high schoolers are so articulate and it's like they've always been know and now you just have like all these books that address all sorts of stuff like black lives matter like just like the class race intersectionality stuff that's like addressed and young adult is like wild and this is about phonons this is about texting but it's also really about like mental health yeah because the whole thing is it's like if you are socially awkward and like eye contact and like being in the meet space is just like a terrible thing for you texting can be sometimes like the most intimate and just confined in safe place do you have any tips about sexting yeah I mean like how how long too long to text well I would you say are you gonna use this for like malevolence my thing with the whole texting it's like everybody knows it's like you know don't have read receipts on and then be that sociopath who's really trying to be like I read this yeah Wow and I don't even think it's like I don't you're like I'm lucky I've never met anyone or are you successful successful success I had them on for a while and then I realized that people were being mad at me and I was like why you so mad at me they're like I'm [ __ ] you read a text from last weekend's you usually read receipt or read receipt read receipt because it's like no you read this and you say read I know it's weird because you're sending the receipt before the co possibly read it so it's a read receipt thank you i I am team read receipt on so it's like how does a dog wear pants you never know how does it I think with a bunch of teens no I mean like I I did a feature with Wired magazine about teens and their texting habits just cuz I feel like a lot of the time it's like very quick Beatty where it's like teens are a hundred percent sexting yeah yeah yeah and they're not I mean they're just they're normal the thing about teens that's so funny is it like it's kind of twofold it's you know people are like oh they're like paragon soothsayers of the future because they know everything blah blah blah they don't there's still teens and the other side of it is that like people are always like oh teens have to be protected from technology and that's also not currently the case so you know like the funny thing about teens to me is it like because you know there's no such thing as being like precocious anymore right because dead-ass like everybody has the same information at the same time and so you can't really be patronizing about a kid anymore cuz they just know everything except that they're like coping mechanisms or maybe not you know they're not in therapy like you and I are so they you know the anxiety has nowhere to go yeah and so like this basically tackles you know mental health anxiety just the discomfort of like the physicality it's like certain people being goals like social media being the devil the algorithm being the devil like yeah oh that's just gonna end us but this is an uplifting adventure I thought that [ __ ] will say [ __ ] in the text that they will not say like face to face speaking of like anxiety and like you know I mean it's like all of gamergate it's like all of like commenting you know it's funny to me sometimes how frequently you visit your reddit page yeah like you're always in there let me tell you something that's not what happened this is cuz you like your said what are your three rules for interacting on social media and texting I think that it's really really important to not like text someone back immediately but text someone back so it's not like three hours later on the dot every single time because that turns a joke to then someone else they're like three hours escalation and it's like why do we need that it's here I think
