[Music] foreign [Music] [Music] thank you this guy boy Young Oak Tree dead this was live this other guy we had this other oak tree here whistling Oak name of this tree we used to sit here and eat under this tree and look how far it's gonna be gone soon that's from my tide fresh one too global warming and climate change it hits us with tidal surges we've got a lot of inundation we've got a lot of erosion it also play with the weather factors and become one top and go this way and we got the underneath look past now nature itself is confused which makes us confused erosion go underneath this totally come underneath them wrote with this Tria Sun erosion I'm coming lay underneath this is the effect stop on it now beetroot was down there right way out there we were sitting on this last year the violence is being eaten away more and more each year sea level has risen six centimeter in the last decade then we estimate we lost three meters of land in the last year the government says in 30 to 50 years our Island will be uninhabitable have to leave it's a Race Against Time to save our home right love you see you Tuesday you look after Mom I'm going to visit some of the other community leaders who are fighting to save our violence it could be good for me because we live different Islands so far apart signal is always a big issue for us it's good to go and sit personally and chat about this thing [Music] yeah my voice if I normally stop putting this the island would have gone you know got any thoughts in this case like this one might be one day solution and it can be better or something or am like a bandage but for 50 60 years and will protect the island from going further I hope and we've talked about it that there is a better solution research need to be open all them things but this is the better solution for now the ideal solution for Australia is to stop burning and exporting coal gas and oil but it doesn't and so the changing climate continues to destroy our Islands myself and seven at the Torres Strait Islanders from three other Islands we took this fight to the U.N against our government to put it there that our way of living has been impacted by climate change our culture and our tradition our human rights [Music] we call ourselves the Torres Strait eight hi Sophie hi Danny how are you dude how are you good thanks you're Frozen again isn't that cold in London [Laughter] I'm nervous about this case if we don't receive an answer now then another big acre will be missing we really don't have time Sophie any news from un if the government loses the case that will be the first time that any country has been found to violate the rights of indigenous people specifically by not taking enough action on climate change so it will be a groundbreaking decision in international law if it comes out like positive um well with the decision will they take action or like how will they respond you know we will try to support you in any any possible way unfortunately this issue is not going away and it's not something that will end with your generation I know that your kids will have to deal with the serious and potentially you know Unthinkable consequences the decision should be with us in in July or October that can supposed that were hard to call there for the government is already addressing the issue work is being done there Let the Sea walls currently funded and under construction while federal and state put up money um for sea walls yeah it's not constructed [Music] one in our lives wow how can somebody lie this game and you're in and you're in that stays the way you're supposed to be helping us and you lie things about that man [Music] a lot of the world doesn't know about the fight we're in now that is my great concern that how we can pass this message over so other nations around the world will see [Music] we resisted here or not for over 60 000 years our tradition and our culture has remained they try to come and Conquer our country can grow home conquer Our Land they practically nearly wiped us off the face of the Earth through sickness and play what they bought to us now this is another this is another sick disease which is attacking our home when you look at me and Fry fly proper on top [Music] you know me reply one name I wouldn't go pick up we're gonna go pick up [Music] when people look at this plant they look at it as a Vine which crawls on the beach which has beautiful purple flowers when we look at this we look at medicine which will heal us and we look at our lineage and so forth and when the lineage goes you got a chain you see all the roots that's me my parents my grandparents my great grandparents my great great grandparents and so forth and it goes and it always sinks into the ground signifying that we are from here this is our home [Music] we cannot practice our culture in a tradition on another man's land it has to be taught here [Music] I'm a storyteller and my people are storytellers how history and our stories are preserved in our songs and the story which lies within us we [Music] [Music] our welda Zara Library and when they speak we all sit and listen only Buddha sticking there yeah yesterday so we stay team sorry I've been I've been this way about sticking yeah he got styled that one [Music] [Applause] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign for [Music] everything here is not a dream now it is real we're in Sydney we're in the big smokes I just hope gania don't get staged right located at end feeling good excited exciting we're gonna do these guys sound check early now take as much time this is your space and we don't have to rush it the trumpet shell symbolizes Gathering and culturally having that blown at the closing ceremony signifies everyone coming together this is a totally different dancing Arena from home well what I can't match this oh you saw me you you employ Sun buying people you imply the only unique type of people the race of people you live where we can stop Los unbank and we can cope and live the lifestyle of Sunbeam plenty people go can't stop loss Island the Milani um so when you walk about my boy you're not right you're not sin my Island where we live is a coronoke island Colorado have we been there for thousands of years our home is being affected by climate change our ancestors has been washed out into the bosons of the mother ocean and we're here to tell this story and we want our story to be heard and to be echoed throughout this country and through the waters to the ends of the Earth [Music] so cute you're doing a very powerful job and it's a very powerful message what's going to be said tonight yeah well I feel like you know my connection to country has been lost through my grandmother's house [Music] your ancestors is practically right here with you thank you [Music] we want the people in the audience not to leave the heart but to live with the peace of our tradition and culture with them knowing that this little race of people is fighting above sea level against climate change foreign [Music] you're a saltwater child these fights for our home has been a long fight for our people go and pass the message [Music] foreign [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] laughs [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] so I'm the shadow Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and treaty that we fully support your claim to make sure that the islands are protected from sea level rise thank you we sent an invitation for the government to come and they refused our invitation so next year we said well if the government doesn't want to come to us we'll go to the government if there's a change of government in uh in the next few weeks then hopefully they'll listen more carefully what you've got to say and I'm friends with Linda Bernie who could possibly be the new Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and I'll pass your message thank you thank you thank you completely [Music] I'm proud of you
