[Music] thank you [Music] [Laughter] [Music] this is the Audi R8 V10 GT rear-wheel drive and this one is going to go down in history not because of the performance which is epic and not because of the looks which are outrageous but because this is the last ever Audi Supercar to use the naturally aspirated V10 engine this sadly is the last ever Audi R8 Audi has confirmed finally that its legendary Supercar is no more it will be replaced at some point in the future by an all-electric e-tron model but that gives the company an excuse to send the R8 out with a very large Bang [Applause] who's that familiar 5.2 liter naturally aspirated V10 except here it makes 600 horsepower and unlike the Quattro version sends all of that power to the rear wheels and that can only mean one thing makes kids [Music] we are a it's always been good but now it's brilliant this can't be the end surely the legacy of the R8 began in 2006 when Audi burst onto the scene with a car that could finally challenge the established rivals in the sector the original R8 was notable not just as the company's first proper Supercar but also as one of the very few supercars that came with a screaming V10 engine making it a brilliant convincing alternative to the V8 and v12s of that era it combined its unique sound with unique looks not to mention staggering speed its best trick though was its usability many considered the R8 to be the most user-friendly Supercar able to deliver Extreme Performance and fun without a requirement for extreme skill over its two generations it has evolved but not enough to keep up with the pace of technological geopolitical and environmental change and those who can't keep Pace will be left behind so what does this particular swan song Bring well exclusivity for one they'll only build 333 examples only 15 of which are destined for the UK at a price of around 200 000 pounds each but it also brings astonishing looks thanks to this incredibly aggressive looking Aero body kit all the badges on the GT are finished in gloss black it has a larger front splitter and these hyper aggressive aeroflicks on the front edges just ahead of these lightweight 20-inch forged wheels wrapped in Michelin cup 2 rubber it has bigger side skirts and a carbon fiber side blade along with a carbon fiber engine cover towards the rear the bumper gets extra Aero elements on the side one of the largest diffusers you'll find on a road car with twin exhausts and a GT3 RS style swan neck rear wing helping to provide twice the downforce you'll find on the standard R8 mmm right what's it like to drive rapid as you'd expect not to 62 in 3.2 seconds a tenth slower than the Quattro as you'd expect not to 200 kph in 10 seconds and flat out 199 miles an hour doesn't quite crack the double ton but that's because of the extra downforce on that subject it makes 320 kilograms at top speed which is pretty impressive not quite as much [Music] not quite as much as a Porsche 911 GT3 RS but in conjunction with those cup twos you get a very healthy amount of grip perhaps not on a day like today when it's quite greasy underneath but Acorn as well [Music] it's also light and agile 1570 kilograms without a driver so about two tons with meat in it and because it's not Quattro it's got less weight over the front axle so you don't have to worry quite as much about understeer now what you'll worry about is oversteer but it's got some tools to help you with that he's got a system called torque rear mode which is basically a drift mode that gives you seven levels of support using the ESC system levels one and two basically don't give you any oversteer at all but level six and seven turn it into [Music] a bit of a drift machine normally my instinct with these systems is that they're a bit of a gimmick but this actually works beautifully it just gives you that comfort and support to get on the accelerator rotate the back end thank you and just slide for days if you want to keep things neat and tidy the R8 GT comes with optional coilover suspension which can be manually adjusted for Rebound and compression harder settings allow for faster cornering on smooth circuits and softer settings allowing for slightly more predictability and control on bumpy tracks or during oversteer moments allowing you to predict and catch slides using feel not anticipation [Applause] the gearbox in this car is new as well it's still a 7-speed DCT but it's got faster shifts than ever before and they've changed the gear ratios so it feels a lot more urgent when you accelerate [Music] the noise of the you see it's a V10 so it does sound glorious unfortunately noise regulations have meant that even these engines have been getting quieter and quieter over the years but it still sounds absolutely epic behind you that in itself is probably a metaphor the Glorious noise from supercars like this are destined to be consigned to the past how that feels will of course depend on your personal Outlook is it Extinction or evolution me I'm a glass half full kind of guy yes the Audi R8 is dead no it'll never be back and yes its replacement will be electric but I'm hopeful I'm praying that whatever Audi replaced this car with surely it's going to be brilliant we can't bring back the past and the future is definitely uncertain but as for the present I'm gonna drive this one till the wheels fall off [Music] all right foreign [Music]
