[Music] hello there and welcome to the Marly burg YouTube channel in this video I will show you how to add an applied eye cord to an already finished item you can go from something having an edge that's a little bit rough and ragged just like this one to having an edge that looks beautiful and finished just like this one look at both sides of that finished piece isn't that glorious this is a very simple stitch and one that you will be able to use on many items so go ahead grab a pair of circular needles or double pointed needles some yarn and I can show you how to do this just like a regular eye cord you want to cast on a total of three or four stitches I prefer the longtail cast on for this method and you do want to use a pair of circular or double points working along the edge of the item we want to pick up and knit a stitch so find the edge stick your needle into that edge yarn over with the yarn you are using on your eye cord and pull up a loop we now have five loops on our needle it's at this point that we will move the stitches down to the other end of the needle and this is why we need a needle that I can use both ends of once we've done that we will begin our I chord so starting down here with our yarn down here we will knit until we get to the last two stitches when we get to these last two stitches we want to work a decrease to join those stitches together you can use a knit two together an SSK and knit two through the back loop whatever works best for you and gives you the finished look I want to use an SSK for this example so I slip as if to knit slip as if to knit take my left-hand needle put it in the front leg of those two stitches and knit them together before I move these I need to then pick up a knit the next stitch on my finished item now I can move these stitches down to the opposite needle and continue I will knit over to the last two stitches and I want to make sure I use the same decrease so I slip as if to knit slip as if to knit and then knit those two together okay don't forget to pick up another stitch and knit it before you transfer these down let's do this one more time I will knit over to the last two stitches and then work my decrease and this decrease is not really a decrease so to speak it's joining my I cord to the stitch I've picked up from my actual finished item okay I always want to get back to five stitches so that way I can always continue to work this I cord attached to the item if you don't want to use circular needles and you want to use double pointed needles I actually find that easier so let me show you what that looks like on the other side of this piece that I'm working on I showed you this side at the beginning and you can see here that I am using double pointed needles to create the same eye cord that I just showed you so at this point I've already picked up the next loop that would be attached to my piece and I am moving my stitches down and I will continue working just like before with my SSK as my join that I chose to use for this particular item and before I can continue on I want to make sure I pick up a knit just along the edge as far as where to pick up a knit you need to decide that just as if you were picking up stitches to work any other edging you want to make sure you are consistent and you aren't leaving giant holes in your pea okay once you work that decrease it becomes a very big habit to just pick up and knit the next stitch you can see here it's very easy I'm just sliding them down to the other end of the needle and carrying on and as you work these you can see the stitches I worked all the way around to the wrong side as you continue on around your item with this attached to I chord if you happen to have a corner you can decide if you want to keep those stitches attached to the corner simply by placing the pick up and knit stitch all in the corner over several stitches or have a detached corner where you just work back and forth on the icord stand alone it's totally up to you to finish off this piece all you need to do is get down to your starting point that you cast on and then seam the two ends together you'll have a beautiful finished item hope you enjoyed this video and you will use the apply dye cord for future items good luck thanks so much for joining me on the Marla burn youtube channel if you liked what you saw don't forget to hit subscribe I put a link right over there or you can watch a couple of the videos I've already selected for you right down there if you want to follow me on social media I've put my links right over there you could have all Marley all the time bye guys
