[Music] hello and welcome to my youtube video in this video I'm going to demonstrate several different ways to work an icord bind off and the effects that you get from each one I'm using a strong contrast between the colors so that you can see what actually happens in the bind off for example in this one you can see blips of reds through and this one you can't so I'm going to show you how to work all these different methods and the pros and the cons plus how to work an icord bind off from a provisional edge so here we go okay in this first sample I'm going to show you a variety of ways to do the connection portion of the icord bind off where you combined the I chord with the fabric itself I'm going to show you three different ways to do that and the results so we're gonna start out by casting on our extra stitches you can use any cast on you want it does not matter I'm just using the knitted on cast on I'm casting on three stitches these are for the icord so I've got my three extra stitches here this is for a three stitch icord bind off if you want to you would cast on two if you wanted for you cast on for whatever number you want to use I'm just using three as a demonstration so then we're going to knit the first stitch knit the second stitch and in the first method I'm going to show you how to combine the icord with the fabric using an SSK so a slip as if to knit slip as if to knit knit them together through the back so we've bound off one stitch then we slide all three stitches back to the left and it's kind of loose because I've got these tails back here then we're going to do the same thing we just repeat one [Music] to SSK slip the three stitches back to the left the reason I'm using two bright colors is so you see how the connection actually looks we're going to knit two SSK and we're starting to see a problem what we're seeing is that the red yarn is showing through let's do it one more time and this is not particularly attractive now if you were using the same color for the bind off as you have for the body of your work this really wouldn't matter but I just want to show you this because it is pretty to do the icord bind off in a contrasting color do you see how the rat is showing through to the fret now if we turn it to the back the icord looks really good there's no red showing through it looks normal so let's try a different method let actually let's try knit one and then slip one this is another method that you'll see slip this stitch knit the next slip this one over let's try that method you'll see that in books and on videos let's work that for a few stitches slip one knit one pass slip stitch over let's just see if this is gonna doesn't look like it's going to make a difference does it we're still getting those red blips so let's try a different one let's try knit two together instead of SS k and we get you think ahead is it going to work most likely not because it's going to pull this stitch over the top it's definitely not going to work so we're going to abandon that what about knit two together through the back loops like this instead of knit two together just knit two together through the back instead of the front that throws that front stick the third stitch knit two together through the back hmm might be an improvement let's see less red showing through let's do it a couple more stitches before we make a final judgment knit two together through the back loops skip the SSK part we're still getting a little blip so I have one more way to show you on a different swatch we're getting a little blip not as big but it's still there it's kind of a decoration isn't it let's go ahead and work to the end because I want to show you how to finish off the icord bind off so if you are doing this all the same color it wouldn't matter you could do it any way you want because there's not going to be that little color blip showing through but if you are doing it with a second color you definitely don't want the second color showing through here we are at our last stitch so then we're just going to bind these stitches off we're still going to do it like the icord we're going to knit one knit to bind this one off knit this one bind this one off and then we'll trim the end here and see how it looks let's take a look at this so there's some improvement there but not very much but if we look at the back side wow that looks perfect so one alternative is to bind off from the wrong side if you do that you'll get the blips on the wrong side and this will be the right side but another way that you can try I have another piece here is you can try working the last row and I'm going to use the wrong side row so that I end up with a working yarn on the right side row you can try working the last row of your fabric in your contrasting color okay and we're going to turn our work and we're gonna cast on our three extra stitches and like I said you can use any cast on you want I'm just using knitted cast on okay here we go one two and we're going to knit these two together through the back loops move these three back one to [Music] work these through the back loops slip them back now this is what's looking good this is looking good let's take a quick peek here that looks really good now the other side doesn't look so good so let's work across your little ways we'll get some more of this done that looks nice on the right side on the wrong side you get the buy colored pearls there so it really depends on what the product is that you're working on what your project is whether you need to be able to see both sides of the fabric in that case I would bind off on the wrong side so this is on the right so you look like if you bind off on the wrong side this will end up on the right side this will end up on the wrong side or you can do it this way which looks really good on the front but you're going to get those by colored pearls on the back now I have one more thing I want to show you I'm going to finish this up last method I want to show you is really not considered a bind off although it is but it's to mimic an icord cast on so what I did on this watch is I did a provisional cast on over this cable of this needle this is a cable needle I just did the preview step to make my provisional cast on I'll put a link to another video that shows how to do that up here knitted my swatch and bound off so because I know now from my previous swatches that probably this is the best method if I'm going to use a second color and I want to use a second color I know that when I turn this I'm going to want to work one row across here in my contrast color now if I was going to do this in the red I wouldn't have to worry about anything I would just do the traditional icord bind off across here but because I want to work this in a contrast color I would work one row in the contrast color and then they do the bind off and it would look exactly like this so that's just another alternative that you can do so let's review what we did the first thing we did is we bound off using SSK and then we did a slip one knit one pass slip stitch over and then we did knit two together through the back loop and in all cases we get the red yarn flipping through but it's less so over here on the reverse side though it looks really good so if you like this side better you might consider when you do the icord bind off to do it from the wrong side this will throw this to the right side and you won't have any blips of color an alternative method that I showed is to work the last row of your main fabric in the contrast color you can see it there and then do the icord bind off and it will look perfect on the right side on the wrong side your going to get these by colored pearl so if that doesn't interfere with your design then this is a really good way to do the icord cast a bind off and then the third method I showed was using the provisional cast on which is basically the same as this [Music] you
