[Applause] [Music] what's up guys this is the Anna style lock here and today I'm going to be talking about one of the cooler guns that I've ever reviewed we're gonna be talking about the ATI or GSG mp40 nine-millimeter pistol now this is a reproduction of a German World War two submachine gun which I have had the pleasure of shooting in fully ATO several times now but I'm definitely no expert I'll try to explain a couple of differences between that and this why I bought it reliability durability and if I think it's a good idea if you buy it and what for this is blowback operated it does fire from a closed bolt and it is semi-automatic now it fires from a closed bolt because I believe open bolt guns are illegal in the United States even if they are semi-auto so they had to change the operation a little bit for it to be able to sell now it's a pistol inside of an SBR again so you can avoid those pesky NFA rules and you can buy them right out of your gun store and shoot it that day it is eight pounds it's 24 inches long with a total barrel length of right around 10 inches it comes with 125 round magazine that I think you can get about 20 into if you're lucky because the spring is very very tight it has a lifetime warranty and I picked mine up for right around $500 about 6 months ago or so I think the MSRP is 600 but these the prices on these have been spiking because they're very difficult to find they're made by GSG in germany which is the way an mp40 should be made in my opinion and is imported by American tactical imports so a German made mp40 clone reproduction whatever you want to call it in nine-millimeter that works for around $500 is pretty impressive so why would you buy this well starters the cool factor I mean just look at this thing five hundred dollars in my opinion for a wallhanger be good enough but this thing actually functions reasonably well it does have some drawbacks so we're gonna talk about but number one is definitely to show your friends that you own a working 9-millimeter mp40 now gia she also makes 22 versions of this that are very popular but personally for me I would prefer an actual caliber the caliber that was actually chamber to 9-millimeter is pretty cool now people are gonna ask why wouldn't you just buy real one why would you buy a reproduction well that's because the real Nazi version of the MP 40s are very expensive and very hard to find a lot of them are full auto so you're gonna have to get a tax stamp if your state even allows that in Iowa where I'm at right now we can have SPRs and suppressors silencers whatever want to call them but we cannot hole in photos so that's out already it's also probably going to be an SBR and it's probably gonna be in the area of five to twenty thousand dollars which is significantly more than this guy right here that's right around five hundred dollars other than just hanging on the wall blinking and having fun this thing is a really fun gonna shoot but you could also theoretically use this for home defense and I wouldn't suggest that based on some of the drawbacks we're gonna talk about but you could it does shoot bullets and it does shoot a deep reasonable enough caliber for self-defense in my opinion as long as it's loaded correctly and it does hold around twenty to twenty five rounds so even though you would have a World War two air a gun could you defend yourself with this I absolutely think you could and maybe you know maybe they'll just think you have really good taste and guns and run away before you have to shoot them ATI does plan on making a compliant stock so you can register this as an SBR and put the original stock on it which i think is also pretty cool and maybe if these get a little bit more popular maybe I can convince SB tactical to make a brace for something but I seriously doubt that now as far as a reliability which is the most important category for a defense oriented type firearm I would consider this good for what it is it's a reproduction of a very old World War Two esque gun so it's not gonna have perfect reliability to begin with and this one is also on the lower end the cheaper price tag so reliability and durability are gonna be sketchy and I experienced that with this as well one of the problems that I kept having was actually a self-induced malfunction we did have a couple of malfunctions that were not self induced but a lot of mine personally were a because of this magazine traditionally what do they call these double stack single feed magazines have had issues in the past or a history actually the mp40 magazines you know because they're of a similar design have had problems in pass as well a traditional double stack like m4 mag or something like that is gonna be more reliable because the rounds they kind of stagger as they go up and they taper down to one which does cause some problems another problem in the traditional mp40 is that did carry over to this it's gonna be the fitment of the magazine you can see right there there is a little wobble and the wobble can cause misfeeds especially if you hold on to the magazine while you shoot now it says right in the manual to not do that but with traditionally before he's aiming with this one there's not a whole lot else to hold on to so you can do a couple different ways the way I found out that work the best for me was to kind of grip like this my thumb under this with my two fingers being the primary grip surface the whole lot of this and just try really hard not to drop your fingers now I originally started with kind of a Glock like hand gun grip up here like this and pressing my thumb down on the sling mount as you see right there which would have worked really well except for I kept dropping the magazine now one of the problems with that is if I would have done it once or twice and just drop the magazine I would have noticed and then stopped doing that but I would hit this just a little bit and it would drop the magazine just enough to cause a malfunction and I think I did that five or six times before I actually figure that I was doing it you know it's a little embarrassing but that is what happened so it's something that you guys will have to watch out for when you do shoot I'll get this out of the way right away the biggest problem I have with this gun is the fact that there is no longer any charging handle now I lost the charging handle while I was shooting so obviously the gun is not currently functional I had to Jimmy rig it to get the round stripped out of the chamber and after that called ATI trying to get a hold their customer service because they did not respond to my email and they have yet to respond to my email that was over a week ago and they have yet to call me back about buying or getting a new charging handle with my lifetime warranty not only that but another problem I had with their customer service is that I tried to buy new magazines as you see here this is the only magazine that comes with a gun it comes with one magazine and on their website they sell magazines but if you click on them try to buy them it says error and for the three days that I tried to buy these magazines before I gave up I could not buy called them to try to actually purchase more magazines still didn't call me back so I'm not too sure about their customer service but personally for me I've had a terrible experience with them now accuracy accuracy is pretty good I didn't benchrest shoot this but for what it is I was shooting a six inch blade at seventy-five yards and prone and I could hit it just about every time part of that is because the reasonable trigger I would say the triggers not great but the sights are actually better on the reproduction than they are the original the notch I think's a little bit cleaner and obviously it's not old and rusty like the other two that I shot but it actually has this high vis I don't think that's a night sight I think it's just a hive is like an HK but it does really help with accuracy because the black on black you know doesn't really work very well for contrast so that nice yellow dot in there does help out the recoil impulse was soft and that's something mp40 is pretty known for if you've ever shot a Thompson and then shot an mp40 right afterwards you realize what a lot of people prefer at the mp40 it's just easier to get shots off on target very quickly the recoil is very manageable part of that's the 9 millimeter round and the other part is because this gun is actually 8 pounds which is 3 or 4 pounds heavier three pounds heavier than traditional air 15s that are coming out right now it only shoots nine millimeter so of course it would tame the recoil a little bit now some of the ergonomic issues and and cool things that I had were honestly the safety is a little weird and pretty unusable now I think in the original don't quote me on this but the this is a takedown lever but in this case it's actually one of the weirder safeties I've ever seen in my life there's a little arrow right here with safe on each side fire on each side and no matter how you twist it it's safe fire safe fire so you can't really get to an area where you're either not on safe or fire but it is a little strange now you see here again you see this this I think on the original this is bakelite or wood this is actually a polymer piece now it's designed to I guess help out with the harmonics or maybe help out with a lot of the distress when you're lenient on a tank or something like that same concept for this as well I'm not sure what this is made out of I think this is some type of aluminum maybe but that's to protect the barrel from where when you're putting it on tanks to fire but this stuff has come loose several times these screws are kind of shady and the whole thing's built a little bit janky but again what do you expect for $500 the threaded barrel is kind of cool I have to admit it's got a threaded barrel for use with a silencer no I think it's a different thread protector than the original but that's still pretty cool hopefully someday I'll get the charging handle back from ATI and I'll throw my Omega 9k on there and see how it does all in all I would have to give it an 8 out of 10 now this thing is not built for a [ __ ] hit the fan type gun it's not really built for home defense although you could use it for both of those roles if this was really the only thing you had one gun it's definitely better than no guns but I would not really suggest that this is really something that you take to the range every once in a while and you show off to your buddies and you say hey I have a World War 2 sub gun so that's one of the reasons why I would give an 8 a 10 it's really pure cool factor show off to your friends hang on your wall type thing now if you're gonna buy for anything other than collecting you might want to reconsider it but as far as that goes I think it's pretty cool if you liked this video please like and subscribe please help out your local homeless shelters and remember to recycle I'll check you later yep [Music] [Laughter]
