but what's hard about it is is their attention span right their attention span is my son he just wants to play with Dinosaurs and Legos and stuff and you say homeworking oh I don't work and so so he wasn't fighting it the whole time he's a smart kid but I just can't give him to wanna do it and then my daughter another that she's she's fantastic at she's just how about power knocks it out that's cool yeah but my wife does I'll be honest she does most of it but I like all about it I'll be doing it tonight yeah yeah we are live now all right everybody's still junior with the bill Jeter downloaded this is the ask Junior segment of the show presented by nationwide we have our guest Jeff Gordon here Mike Dave born this year man I tell ya you'd be here this is awesome just just got a few minutes for you guys split out he's got to go get the carpool line Jeff Gordon he will be there soon they say he's gonna be able to stick around for a few minutes and let's get right to it Matthew you got a question lined up already we got some stuff on lineup already something actually chiming in using after your long-term business relationships they want to ask a question about your trips to Formula One races and your you know relationship with a team principal coda wall with Mercedes and and what the prospects are of you maybe have a relationship with that yeah so what what drove all that is these folks are here axalta so exalt uh being a global coatings company they paint not only just f1 Mercedes car but for Mercedes you know that the street cars and so they have a relationship with them where they they have a sponsorship where they do about five f1 races a year and obviously I miss Monaco unfortunately because we're racing that weekend but but but I get to do two or three so so I've done Singapore with them in Mexico City a couple times just did Abu Dhabi and it's cool you know it's there's so much respect for our sport and the those competitors in our sport when you go to form the one because then even though they're at a very high level technically the the people are racers and so it's cool I like that now total you know I look up to him because I admire him he is you know there's a few people like like Toto that admire like a Rick Hendrick but Toto is he's a racer he can drive himself he's I don't know if he's an engineer by a trait but he understands all the engineering and he's a he's a really smart business guy you know from from knowing how to take a company public and things I guess so so I love spending time with him and hearing and watching him work and how he runs the team and of course you know I want to learn because one day you know I want to be more involved with Hendrick Motorsports on on that side now I'm and join TV I'm enjoying traveling all those things but I love being partners with Rick Hendrick Motorsports actually speaking of ownership Erik hunger want to know your guys relationship of course or as drivers now but do you know in the past do you have any advice for him as a car owner because I mean use car underwing championship see now in the Xfinity series and you know you've been involved for so long in the car ownership of the car yeah well when I look at racing and ownership I go and I look around here I go damn are you sure I mean it's such a tough business and the job that you and Kelly have done and your group here is pretty phenomenal you know I would not be an owner if it weren't for Rick Hendrick I mean and being there for such a long time and the contract that I signed them you know helped me be an equity owner I want to be partners with Rick you know in the business I certainly would never want to go out and do this yeah nor would I even be capable of but you know and I know you get asked a lot about taking this to the cup level and I'm pretty sure I know the answer desire now not really I think that and we're partners - I mean I'm partners with my sister partners with Rick and this whole thing and that certainly takes a lot of the stress out of it a lot of sharafat really having to show and share that responsibility with somebody that you believe in and those is what's all yeah I do want to say real quick on that because I'm always so interested in what's happening from the business aspect and I gotta say Jim France and the France family and the involvement that they have right now Steve felt you know I'm seeing some momentum of some things that the what's happening with the RTA you know there's just some cool things that are happening with and and and it all got started are they talking about Comcast or I come in and I'm asking whether that was ever reality or what was gonna happen but what it's generated is some some concerted efforts where people are coming together to try to take the sport to the next level from a business viability standpoint and that's what I'm excited about if it if it could do that you would see me be far more involved but right now if you look at a business model on paper it you're like no no it doesn't make sense we're lucky to have bracing more as a hobby and do it the level that we do it because of our partner do you know that that's actually one of my observations when we first started with NBC was that how NBC and Fox are actually working together to promote the sport yeah there wasn't a competition or sense of that that was the first thing in the example was they sent him to the Super Bowl to go promote the Daytona 500 which my Fox race well I can tell you from the Fox side of things and I know Sam flood and some of the folks you know at NBC and but I can tell you that it's a constant you know circle where we hope that you guys have a great end of the season and that we can try to figure out how to promote over the offseason to keep the momentum going and how the Daytona 500 kicks off with the ratings and the viewership and attendance train you know that that trickles down through the rest of season and if we have a good first half of season each other's biggest fan yeah definitely this is a question I really wanted to ask and I'm so glad Matthew Jackson wants to know about this speeding ticket that you maybe enlisted Dale to help you out yeah getting out of what I remember you remember my job so when Dale first time Ellen Hendrick Motorsports and it was official well maybe it's the day before was official I don't know but Rick told me and and I don't know if he gave me a number I already had your number whatever it was but I was driving to dinner and Osama call and I didn't have the hands-free setup in the car so I just called so I'm driving along on the phone we're talking I'm congratulating you and welcoming you to the team and it's cool you know you picked up and we're having this conversation and all of a sudden I got blue lights you know rear window I'm like oh I'm getting pulled over so I wasn't sure if I should stay on the phone with Dale or not but I said no no stay on you I may need luckily I did because first a guy says to me you know you're not supposed to be on the cell phone and then second he's like in you're speeding and I just said and I never do this but I said this is the moment I got to pull this off I said I know and I'm sorry you don't have to be a Dale Earnhardt jr. fan on and he's like yeah why what does that have to do anything I said well I got him on the phone I was congratulating him with something he goes but and I just handed the phone off and and you spoke to him for two seconds so that's how the news bro got me up and got me out of it made him take me for a steak dinner or something I have to do that was I was just trying to make a great impression on my new team he made the greatest impression on me you thought I was screwing with you but it was so crazy random for sure all right going right in tonight at me being teammates with them for a while JT most wants to know the best we all have Dale jr. stories that we like you know whether they're on track or off track what's your favorite Dale jr. story from from your interactions well my best stories when we weren't teammates you know I I remember you were living across the street from what would you call you know di right he was living over there and I guess you were you would have been in Busch grand national at that time and he had a heck of a party and then and and so I remember that party and then you come to it oh yeah I think you guys went to the shop and then after he came to the house your you know your your place that you had There and and so I don't know somehow I ended up there and I was like man this guy knows how to get and then I came to Whiskey River one night that was another that was a long time ago that was a big I mean I was Lee River western town the Westeros I called that was Europe its yeah and I went there and had a few beverages quite a few and I remember looking to have more momentum own I think this is a lot about Dale you know how much you care about sports when we had some meetings up there at your place would my out and then Jeff Burton and some folks in the sport and we had some some conversations about you know things that were going on what we could do better what they could do better and and you kind of you know happens well that was before the drivers council else helping grab a handful of drivers that he you know wanted to just have conversation with and we would have these conversations at certain locations and one of have to be at the western town one time and so I was excited because Jeff Gordon and Hilton and all these guys were gonna come to the western town and I said Amy I'm going down in western town I was gonna be an hour pretty important you know and I think we is down there for like six hour we were there long after the first hour and we really we got into the meat of the content we want to talk about I mean this is us talking about man should we have don't file restore oh wow oh yeah yeah should we quit racing back to the flag yeah we're and we're making these decisions not you know make not making them on officially on paper but we're really discussing on what's helping about some things we could do some things NASCAR had a good bunch of great ideas they wanted to run through us and you've got all the decisions that just him and his dad used to are just his dad used to have with with Bill French jr. that just I would Pat made the path of the sport now now I took about eight of us at this after about an hour we started drinking beer out of beer cooler I think I started right away like five six hours she was so mad I think I kind of had a similar experience [Laughter] that may be great for the future that has cart terrible for Malaysia Pocono Raceway they try that a few weeks ago and they just said hi finally they came in and have a question I like it they wanted to know okay mano y mano Jeff Gordon versus Dale Earnhardt jr. Pocono who would win I think Jeff would beat me until the repave oh I like the wreath I was good at the wreath erotic listen I was terrible most repays I did like the old Pocono I like that place and had a lot of confidence in it and I don't know the last company unless I am it makes me thinking I drove when I drove your car Pocono and I had that seatbelt dam issue but but but Greg set up a nice car you guys had a nice you know set up there and I enjoyed it but yeah I guess okay I'll take me early you late that's a good question listen I gotta be honestly I'm a little concerned that we're gonna get him back in trouble with his wife and it doesn't pick up his kids seriously let's stick around we're gonna finish up bass jr. live here on YouTube real let Jeff take off Jeff thanks for and by the way everybody watching we had a lot of things that you probably are asking right now on the unit we addressed them already in and so you'll just need to listen to the podcast because it's a good conversation we've had with Jeff thank you Jeff sweet all right a lot of us Joe they'll stay like I'm out John good to see Larry thank you very to see you safe but see you man thank you awesome you seen them nice to see you got you keep asking questions we'll a Jeff Gordon go ahead well have now that Jeff's out of your Groth Kurth house who seems to be our favorite food guy wants to know Christmas and holiday season common honey baked ham on the main I've done pretty good this this holiday season with I think you know Thanksgiving Christmas I'm going full full Sandberg I'm chasing the fini we were just talking to Jeff Gordon obviously he started his career in sprint cars have you ever even thought about getting an express car never I mean I'm Kerry you're curious is a driver would all kind of what all cars drive like but I don't I don't think I'm ever gonna do it if I ever drive anything outside of Bernie's Xfinity races each year for Junior Motorsports I might would consider doing some sports car racing on you know on kind of a low stress low expense scale not like you know not going high in full sin just gonna do some you know maybe so the vintage stuff or out of a you know just some club racing that stuff kind of interested me going out and running 24-hour lemons race Oh something like that yeah I mean Bobby did that yeah he just did it I've seen other biffle's done it for said couple guys just built a car and go with your friends and just race you don't have anyone have to be real drivers you can run a couple laps who's got that biffle's got that triple B Ranch air race man I've been up there a few times with that thing and oh we Curtis had roundabouts yeah yeah Kurt Busch was running one year with a Christmas tree ratchet strap to the top of his car you can't have fun doing that forget about it to do that I mean why not have briefs with a Christmas tree on a car day I'll ever get the go-karts out of out of the snow Oh in the snow ya know with the go-cart thing is is long gone we got we we used to have so what this is about used to have a team go karts used to have to three tracks to a road course paved oval pave and a dirt paper dirt track and I grasped over the dirt track sold all the go-karts got out of go car business the last time I think we ran those maybe I think Steve Letarte was my crew chief and we just had gotten so wild I was thinking man we're either gonna get hurt alright I'm just gonna have to keep rebuilding these go-karts because we had to fix about six of them after we crashed them all so bad and so it was getting pretty expensive and dangerous and we ran go-karts out at my house for probably ten years twelve years had a lot of fun and decided to give it up but I still have a paved road course and the paved oval and guys will bring their kids out to that paid oval and let them run their go-karts so Rodney Childers has brought his kids out there Reverend is kids there are Letarte Jason Burdette our crew chief here with Justin Allgaier Jason Burnett brought his son out there when he was three to run his little go-kart just all day long just running laps and so many kids have been out there to sort of get their first laps under their belt before they take them anywhere else and to a race or anything like that it's just a little cool it's perfect for like little champ cars or something like that and that's a lot of fun to be able to offer that my friends Junior 38:15 says hey Dale do you have an opinion on the ongoing debate in short track racing on motor options for the late-model stock cars I mean you're late Mile stock car guy what's the best option you think that helped it's cool you're the cheapest option I mean whatever is the cheapest Cisco - a nice cheap option that you know pretty much brings down the cost of business cost to racing when I raced in the when I race late models in 1994 1995 96 and 97 I needed roughly around 50 to 60 thousand dollars to run a full year and that's buying tires or tire that's seven half tires every week because you gotta have you know everyone's long you gotta buy another set for practice and pay it for a motor which is Timothy King ran building the car and all that so now today to run the same outfit even less races actually today we only run that many races we run maybe 20 races a year to run 20 races in late-model stops to buy the same car engine tires are all that what I'm fine we're not doing anything different than we did back in the 90s it's $150,000 $200,000 do that over the season it's ridiculous so you know anything that brings that cost down to make this more affordable just through it you know just normal people I mean you know whatever we can do to make that happen it's good for me I'm the owner I don't want to spend on it I don't want to spend all this kind of money but I love racing I want I want to beat I want to send cars to the racetrack I love being an owner but I don't want to spend this kind of money and I don't wanna have to try to find this kind of money you know and if we I remember ten years ago I had four late-model teams but we're like ball teams going on the racetrack every weekend and I forgot that's crazy we did there's no I mean that would take a half million dollars to do this today it's crazy so I love to race more you know when I say race more send more cars racetrack it just as hard to do I mean the tires when I was driving at night mid 90s were hundred dollars apiece plus 20 bucks them out if you if you didn't want mine yourself so $400 was terrible I mean it's ridiculous now okay tires for late miles roughly about that yeah Wow it's the same thing it's the same Hoosier 45 that I was running when I was the same tire you know it's a great tire but you know just more expensive for some reason Brennan Carol hey Dale she says he says I screamed when I saw that you're going to be driving the pace truck for the Daytona 500 I'm so excited to see you at New Hampshire next year as well new venture alright well I'll see you there I am excited about driving the pace truck in the Daytona 500 I mean this is this is one of the cool things that I didn't even think about when I retired is getting the opportunity and getting the request to do these type of things to be the Grand Marshal if they don't father to drive a pace truck at the Daytona 500 to drive the pace car and at the Brickyard these are just cool perks I guess that kind of come along with with having you know having 20 years on a sport and putting in everything you put in I just bought the new Silverado I had a bottle truck so buy the truck for me is a big deal I have involved Silverado in the 12 years I have the last truck I bought before and so I saw the new truck I went to Texas when they unveiled this new truck a year ago they brought this truck in on the helicopter and set it down in front of it yeah all right me and a bunch of the Chevrolet fans were there and so when I saw that truck with my own eyes I said I'm gonna buy that truck when it comes out it's available so it's available I bought one from my dealership down in Tallahassee and so I'm excited about it I'm excited to be a new truck owner we're going to take that truck that Silverado and that's what's going to pace the field so usually it's a pace car it's gonna be a pace truck and that's a great way for us to showcase what a great truck it is you're taking that truck not my truck okay yeah well yeah I really don't want to because they stressed the lights to it no I don't wanna do that to my truck but right oh it will be 2:19 several for sure so if he ever Silverados they got a real nice all right lalla jamun Aneurin wants to know what was I was reaction to being in the snow you know she didn't really like it I would loves warm weather warm temperatures when she was even she doesn't now but during the warmer temperatures earlier this season earlier this year so if she's upset or crying and there seems to be nothing to fix it if you just walked outside she quit it immediately walk back inside back to being upset she just loves warm air warm temperatures and so she does not like being outside in the cold or sitting in the snow or anything like that she when her room temperature gets like 68 or 69 degrees she's uncomfortable she will even wake up out of her sleep she likes it to be around 74 degrees in her room which is warm uncomfortable I don't like that I like it kool-aid is low I can't sleep this yeah I got a chilly yeah I got a cold I want to bundle up in there so uh but she don't she likes it to be hot that's why we keep it hot in the studio so you don't cut like yeah it's working yeah it's working Mike's car grateful I want to thank everybody for joining us and after you live on on YouTube it was awesome to have everybody and I was appreciate it yep presented by Nisha wanted of course that's who brings us all to us podcast will be out later this week it's gonna be a good one Jeff Gordon was here talking about a lot of things we talked about his history his history with that history with me look forward to showing that to you guys
