welcome back we just got an ashes of creation development update stream yesterday which means it's time for a news video if you're unfamiliar with this game stay tuned for i will be covering this game in depth to help explain everything i already did a video on the races and classes links to that will be below also links to my twitter and my discord server will be below i'm linking everything these days let's get right into it [Music] intrepid studios has informed us that there of course still working from home but if things go as planned they hope to be back in the studio by february they are still expanding as a company and have around 30 more positions opening up for which the hiring process will begin in january so if you're in this field and you got the skills maybe you want to look into that i think this is great news because my number one concern with this game so far is wondering if it might be a little too ambitious of a project but seeing the company continuously grow on top of the solid foundation they already seemingly have gives me more confidence that all of these amazing things were being told just may become a reality currently the studio is focusing mostly on buttoning things up for the alpha one preview on december 18th but they do have other big design projects that they're working on that won't be present in the early alpha stages those of you who do not know here's the planned schedule for the alpha test the pretest one is coming up and is from december 18th through the 21st this is for bravers and intrepid pack holders only which are backers of the game pretest 2 is february 19th through the 22nd and is also for bravers and pack holders only pretest three is from march 19th through the 26th and this time is not under nda and is for all alpha one testers and official content creators please notice me please notice me and the official alpha one is one month long starting on april 6th the alpha one map is said to be almost 100 square kilometers in size which is about 20 percent of the full map it will take place in a new zone that they've been working on which will be a more tropical jungle type environment with various islands and a mainland area the creative director and owner of intrepid steven also mentioned a ship system for travel which is awesome those of you who played classic wow the real classic wow might remember the days of traveling on ships that would bug out in the middle of the ocean and everybody would jump off naked great times i'm really excited to see what they actually do with this but it will not be in the game during the first alpha test in december players will instead be using teleporting npcs to travel to different islands but it was also mentioned that the swimming mounts will be in the alpha so you could actually attempt to make the journey that way it will be quite the trip though the studio is also currently working on a big stats revamp for the game they're changing up and tuning how some of the stats will work how they relate to each other and more but these changes and updates will not be in the game until at least the february alpha test preview in terms of combat jeff bard the lead game designer has told us that they feel they have a pretty good foundation for the combat so far but are certainly not done working on it they have some more combat prototypes going on at the moment they seem to be really dedicated to ensuring that it will feel like a aaa experience we should be seeing some of these combat updates by the time the full alpha one launches in april so overall things seem to be going good but as always don't expect perfection in these earlier development stages especially considering that some of the major design things that they're currently working on will not be present in the earlier stages of the alpha all right now let's talk about the environment this picture right here that we were shown is an area in the alpha map and as you can tell it's got some interesting features that little white ship that you can see was thrown into the picture to give us a sense of scale this is a pretty massive rock formation environments and ashes are strategically created to allow for player creativity with the various in-game mechanics it is likely based on a node's placement around this particular structure that some type of harbor will be forming here if a harbor is constructed and a node siege or some shipping raids on trade ships were to occur players will be able to strategically use the environment to aid themselves the large rocks can provide cover for ships high ground for players and you can maybe even find good use for gliding mounts here in the alpha one map there will be nine nodes that players will be able to interface with but these locations will change throughout the alpha stages expect to see more final node placements when the beta launches one reason that they're doing this is obviously for testing reasons but they also don't want to necessarily reveal all of the final node placements before the beta takes place for those of you who do not know ashes of creation will feature a dynamic lighting system the sun will rise and fall and we will experience some beautiful sunsets the studio has kept the lighting more static in the past for design development reasons but now they're working hard on creating what they want to be the final product i have to say it's pretty cool to see who doesn't love a good sunset with all your clothes and your inventor we also got to see some pictures and footage of some of the in-game lower level armor right here is some k-lar human armor at level 5 and then some more kailar human armor at level 15. we also got to see some tier 1 armor from the imperian elves and the upgraded look at tier 2 which is level 20 from what they said these armor sets look nice and i really like that they're not overly done there's a beautiful simplistic look to them which i'm sure will get crazier as you get into the higher tiers but it seems like this game is going to be fairly grounded in terms of how crazy armor is allowed to look you will be able to mix and match armor pieces to your liking but there will also be set bonuses to keep in mind maybe you want to run with two or three pieces from the same set to get certain bonuses or maybe you want to go all in to take full advantage of a set it will be up to you there will also be some armor pieces that have cosmetic slots not all but some that will allow you to change the appearance of the armor i would think maybe of elder scrolls online here but in a more controlled limited way i think intrepid is trying to find a sweet spot between allowing people to have fun with costumes and gear customization but also not wanting it to end up taking away from the experience of having to actually earn cool looking gear such as in raids there will be a cosmetics cash shop with limited time cosmetic items so collectors get ready but the game will certainly not be paid to win whatsoever these cosmetic items can be costumes transmogs for certain gear or even mount skins from what i understand many of these items can be earned in the game as well through rigorous activities i personally don't like cash shops of any kind in rpgs and mmos but i do understand that the revenue it brings in could end up giving us a much better game in the long run this game also doesn't have a box price it will be subscription based as i said before intrepid studios is being loud and clear that there is no pay to win going on here the last part of this video i'm going to go over the topics and answers from the q a that was presented to us some of this information is already out there but intrepid definitely helped explain things better in terms of looting rules and mechanics intrepid's idea is to give us as wide a range or wider as we have ever experienced in an mmo there will be many options for how players are able to obtain loot and many times it will be up to the party or raid leader to decide on these rules there will be a free-for-all loot system meaning whoever picks it up there will be a roll for loot mechanic vote for loot and more i think there's a time and place for many different looting mechanics and it seems like ashes of creation will provide us with many many options now let's talk a little bit about pvp a question was asked if there are ways to wage indirect war when pertaining to node wars such as military nodes sending out raiding parties or an economic node disrupting trade basically this person is asking if you can screw over another node outside of the actual activity of a full-on war the answer is yes there are many ways to influence change without the actual declaration of war itself there will be many opportunities to interrupt caravans with trade that go in and out of cities there will be opportunities for citizens to come together and disrupt other node's achievements such as downing raid bosses and more many of these activities will of course lead to actual war because war is typically a process and a building up of enemies over time on this same subject someone asked about the pvp flagging system when pertaining to the open world just keep in mind that we're not talking about formal pvp systems in this question such as node wars guild wars arenas castle sieges etc this is strictly about being in the open world everybody in the game will be a non-combatant by default which means not flagged for pvp this doesn't keep you safe from pvp however but instead makes it so that if you die while you're not flagged you will only suffer the game's normal death penalties the way that a player becomes flagged for pvp in the open world will be by actually striking someone when this happens a player's color will change to purple indicating that they're flagged for pvp and they're now open to attacks from all players non-flagged players who attack a flagged player will not be flagged themselves if you do strike an enemy player and become flagged and end up killing other players or die you will get something called corruption corruption does various things to your character such as dampening your skills and stats increasing the chance of you dropping carried raw materials and gear when you die bounty hunters will be able to see your location on the map and more so when you die when you're flagged for pvp you lose a hell of a lot more than you would if you were not flagged and also you just become generally weaker over time the corruption system is designed to add some real risk to engaging in this open world less formal type of pvp and make players think twice before ganking someone it's supposed to be a risk verse reward system if you want to engage in this type of activity you will take on some real risk it will certainly be interesting to see how this actually plays out because there is of course a delicate balance in terms of making everyone happy when you get into open world pvp mechanics i will go into detail on all of this on a pvp dedicated video in the near future the next question that was asked was regarding to open world raids and how the difficulty level will scale in situations where players might form groups or come together in numbers higher than the encounters expectations the answer to this was that they're still working on this and will be testing mechanics throughout the alpha and the beta but right now they have plans to increase environmental hazards and aoe effects when player counts exceed the expected numbers and it may actually become even more difficult with too many players present enemies designed for open world raids will be different than ones designed for instance raids and the last thing we're going to quickly cover is solo play will this be a viable game to play alone the answer is yes and no there will be plenty of content designed for solo play and of course plenty of content designed for group play ultimately we have to remember that this is an mmo and intrepid studios really wants to make sure that we're actually an important part of the world you will have to interact with others to do some of the things that you want to do in terms of the economy and crafting you might have to purchase things from other players you'll have to interact with others for your housing and of course there's going to be group monsters and raids and stuff like that to help out players who tend to play more solo the game is implementing something called pseudo factions which are kind of like micro communities that you'll be a part of depending on things such as your religion your node you might be in a scholars academy and stuff like that these pseudo factions will have their own chats and meeting places you might generally prefer more solo type play which is fine but once you realize that your node is being attacked you'll likely want to work with others in the node to save your personal stuff such as your house these pseudo factions are groups that you'll become a part of simply by the choices you make in the game this isn't you interviewing and joining an established organized guild so overall there will be plenty of solo content but you won't experience the true game without interacting with others in some way shape or form this is a social world intrepid is clear that they're not creating this game for every single type of player out there they have a vision and they're sticking to it they want to make it work and that
