nothing can ruin a summertime soiree quite like a close encounter of the creepy-crawly kind but rest assured those duplicitous as-seen-on-tv architects have been hard at work conjuring up an arsenal of bug abolishing accoutrements so that way we can test them out before you hand your cash out the bug vacuum is a humane bug catching device to inhale pests trap them in a magnifying plastic cage and then release them back into the wild cleverly disguised as a toy this handy device lets you take a hands-off approach to pest control after clipping the zip ties your bug vacuum slides right out because batteries are already included it's ready for action a little squeeze of the trigger will fire up the interior fan allowing this master blaster to suck through the outer chamber of the barrel imprison your target for you to gaze upon now before we tested this out in the real world we swapped out the chamber with some fresh batteries to ensure peak performance it's simple really just open up the bottom plop in for doublea's and then close it back up into action we go because there's nothing as rewarding as capturing a cricket that disturbs your slumber creeping up stealthily was no match for the mediocre and child-friendly power of the bug vacuums fan all you got to do is turn the side knob to seal in the freshness yep that's a done deal it also does an excellent job at sucking up even clumps of creepy crawlies and you can keep them on display for as long as you'd like before releasing them into your favorite neighbor's lawn to enhance their biodiversity for a better perspective we went ahead and attached a phone to the bug vac for some half-life 3 level action we took several attempts at capturing some flies but ultimately failed due to the lack of power inside the bug vacuum the flies are just a little bit too quick for this thing but that doesn't mean that it's not a great solution when along comes a spider just keep your eyes peeled and get as close as you can before pulling the trigger the fan will gently prepare the spider for relocation as you can see this angry arthropod has wasted no time showing his displeasure while desperately trying to get out of his plastic prison so we immediately released somewhere else and off you go now if you're patient and brave you can even capture a wasp just slowly ease the vacuum in and got him after you're done analyzing your specimen deem it unsafe just open it up and launch the gun across the yard until it evacuates the - so after ample testing the major gripe we had with the pocket-sized pest remover was its lack of audacious suction power but no worries we decided to make a slight modification by disassembling the unit and attaching its elongated tube directly to this 18 volt hand vacuum securing it with a little aluminum tape sealed up the holes and made it bad already with our newfound suction power nabbing a fly was no effort by comparison this thing left the toy version far behind it was even able to suck up small rocks from a bit of a distance and could even pull larger ones around that wouldn't quite fit in its chamber unfortunately its capabilities were maxed out by this break so here's the deal the base model of this bug vacuum is a fun treat for those boring weekends and if you personally happen to moonlight as a disgusting Doc Holliday well a few simple modifications will allow you to be walking away from the OK Corral with a sack full of stink bugs up next is the dynazap an extendable insect sapper to tase your pesky houseguests right back to the front open after a few quick snips and snaps it'll slide right out revealing the usage directions in a language of your choosing presumably to power it up just remove the very necessary screw from the compartment in the handle and slide those included batteries right in there with that done you're ready to serve it up can even extend the neck of the racquet with just a little pull keeping you out of the danger zone now here in the householdhacker crypts it appears that our bug repelling gnome has been sleeping on the job but since evictions require a 30 day notice we'll just head outside and zap some flying beasts right out of the sky now for some reason bugs love to fly around this bucket of eggshells and old fruit can't imagine why however waving the racket to and fro there's an audible pop and a flash every time you score a point unfortunately if you try to swing the dynazap with any real the photo bullhead just isn't rigid enough to stay in place and that's a major fault now serving up the competition comes an item we reviewed last year the executioner this thing sets up in pretty much the same way while it may not boast the extendable handle of the dynazap the head of the racket sports plenty of surface area solidly glides through the air even with the swiftness of strokes if you're looking to work on your backhand while serving up some justice the executioner remains to be the king of the court our still works like a charm is much more reliable than the flimsy dynazap that feels like it's always on the cusp of breaking so here's the final score the executioner is still the real ace here with the dynazap reminding us more of a deuce hey listen we really need to talk about something the catchy a high-tech trap that attracts bugs and eliminates them without the use of chemicals or toxins perfect for families and pregnant women sorry - you single pregnant men out there on the other side of the box you've got some instructions for use but this thing's fairly straightforward just set it up in a dark area turn it on and get out inside the box we've got a package of four glue boards to trap the bugs charging cable a plug the unit oh and also the catchy ebook which is appearing currently in the form of a normal book inside this tome of knowledge you'll find a description of the machine the science it uses and a potential guest list for your housefly hotel it also lists all the bugs that are not attracted to the UV light so this isn't necessarily a catchy all solution once you plug it in the unit fires up by pressing one of the buttons on top the UV light beckons the bugs close and then the powerful fan pulls them down to their sticky prison below loading up the glue boards is pretty easy just unwrap them and peel the covering from the top now with a quick press of the tab on the bottom of the unit it'll open up and you just slide those logo side up right in there as you can see it's pretty sticky so you might want to hold it by its edges when you do this part for testing purposes the unit was brought outside next to a rotting fruit basket although the cachi is primarily for use in an interior setting the hell tends to be bug free there's many more to catch out here we set it up just before dusk and left it on overnight even with the Sun out a couple customers were quick to reserve their plots but the night time was the right time for the catchy and it really started to shine the following morning the results speak for themselves not only were there about 200 flies stuck to the glue but it also managed to snag a few nosy moths as well not too bad for a night's work in fact after leaving the machine running for three nights in a row it was obvious that the catchy is truly a killing machine it managed to ensnare hundreds of assorted bugs and covered the glue board completely so if you have problems with little pesky critters in your home is this thing worth the money yes does a great job at what it's designed to do and it's super quiet it'll also take a ton of time to fill up in an indoor setting so check it out did you hear that don't worry it's just the monster zapper claiming to be the end game solution for up to three thousand feet of indoor extermination rocking 220 watt UV bulbs and emitting 2800 volts of insect eradication the monster zapper is a sure win when you're dealing with an indoor dilemma removing it from the box this Boheme it comes preassembled and ready to rock the instruction manual seems to be more of a warning booklet and trust me probably need to read it you may note a little discrepancy here as it says for indoor use only yet the commercial says it's also great for outdoor barbecues uh in any case just keep it sheltered and away from water if you want to be safe that's the main takeaway from this the bottom of the device has a removable tradit dump your carcass collection once you're done admiring it and that's it just plug this thing in and fire it up the UV bulbs burst into action immediately and cast a cool glow over the room we did our initial testing in a perfectly secured and covered patty once it was set up the bugs began to swarm the monster zapper almost immediately something that you may want to note about this crazy device is that once it's turned on you definitely want to get out of the area because as tantalizing as the light may be curious little creatures will start to wander off to snack on your before meeting their shocking demise now regardless of how they portrayed in the commercial this is no silent assassin it emits a consistent hum in a loud pop each time it racks up a kill just a lot after an hour of use the tray on the bottom was jostled free to display the carcasses for all to see not too bad the monsters zapper indiscriminately handled bugs of all shapes and sizes be a fixture around the house for the foreseeable future break it out the bug vacuum again it was put to use as a dust buster before taking these things to their insect graveyard now if white noise and random pops aren't your thing you can always opt for the versatility of the zap light our tried-and-true bug companion we tested this thing out last year and it was a multifunctional instrument of destruction that also doubles as a traditional light bulb when pests aren't an issue it obviously doesn't have the attraction or shocking power of the monster zapper but it does work right out of the box after you screw it into a normal lightbulb socket with just a couple clicks to toggle it between light bulb zapper or both we installed ours for one night removing the outer bars to view the carnage clearly honestly the zap light works amazingly well for a small confined area with its only downfalls being that it can miss small bugs and require cleaning every now and then so the truth is either one of these will work for you but they each have their ups and downs if noise pollution isn't an issue the monster zapper is easily your best solution but if you're looking for a more subtle defense on multiple fronts well then you're in luck because the zap light is The Watcher on the walls in the shield that guards the realms of men a true fire in the night that burns against the cold a white it brings the DA hmm excuse me either of these will work just fine for you thank you so much for tuning in on your screen right now you should be seeing a
