I find this sort of thing much more interesting than interstellar travel as it seems much more near term and realistic. Elements will happen in my lifetime and even more so in my children’s lifetime.

I wish more sci-fi (and SFIA episodes) were about this though you’d need more people with a biochemistry background to be involved rather than physicists I guess.

While I'm not as familiar with biotech as I am astronomy, I could easily imagine some version of some of these things happening. Biotech and gene engineering will make many wonders and nightmares alike.
