hey guys this is Monica at academic Phoenix class and today I'm gonna show you another new Arnold node which is called the a i2 side this is a request from several of my subscribers and therefore I decided to go ahead and create this tutorial so if you have any recommendations or anything at all just make sure you leave a comment below and I would love to go ahead and do some research and create some tutorials for you if it helps alright so two sided two-sided means that when we create a plane for example something like this and we put a texture on it a lot of the times the other side will have the exact same texture and the issue with that is that what if we wanted to create like a piece of paper or a leaf that means that it is very thin but one side would have a certain texture and the other would have the other texture so Arnold created a very handy tool or a very handy note called the AI 2 side which we're gonna explore right now alright so already have a couple of textures for you if you guys go to academic Phoenix plus com there is a downloadable file called double-sided texture and it will have the typical Maya folders and inside source images you're gonna have page the front cover and an e-book plus some textures just to let you know this is my e-book that I just recently released so you're more than welcome to download that one as well at academic Phoenix plus com so give that a go but that's the cover and this is page one so I spend a lot of time on this ebook and I would love for you guys to take a look at it and gave me some feedback that would be amazing and we also have some textures because I want to animate it too so all right so here's our page and I there's I could uv-map it but what I'm gonna do instead is just find out what the dimensions of this is so I'm gonna right click go to properties and the dimensions is whoops go to details its 695 by 904 I'm gonna skip this to the side I have a double screen where I put my stuff by the way and in my channel box I am going to my scale and in my scale I'm going to put down 6.95 and and descale Z is gonna be 9.04 so it's the same values as as this image so this is the size of the page now the reason why I didn't uv-map it was because I already have an image with the exact same size and if I change the scale the UVs will remain the same so it's nothing I'm not doing anything extra to it so I'm gonna right-click us on a new material I'm gonna go to my Arnold and I have an AI standard surface right here this is gonna be the front ebook so front ebook AI standard gonna change my way to a hundred and then color click on that little output go to the file go to the little folder and if you set your project correctly you should be able to go immediately to source images and grab the first page which is that one person number 6 and there you go now if you don't see something it may be this little button right here just click on that and they will reveal it now as you can see looks like everything's working just fine which is fantastic and the other side doesn't look like there's anything and if I try to render can't see anything and you guys probably should know by now that when you create a Arnold scene you need to add a light Arnold does not have a default light which is fine we just have to put a directional light make sure it's aiming at the leaf and then let's go ahead and activate the render all right there it is perfecto now it's a little shiny I'm not sure if I want my my book to be shiny but oops i standard we could increase the roughness which is gonna help kind of break up the specularity and produce the specularity too cool stop that for a second actually if I turn this around and I play it's press play you're gonna see that on the other side exactly what it described earlier is that yeah it's the same thing except backwards and we actually want to put an image there so let's go ahead and create another AI standards so right click assign a new material we're gonna use the AI standard surface and this is going to be called my page one same story I'm gonna increase my weight I'm going to decrease my specularity but increase my roughness gotta get a color again up here at the base don't don't get confuse with the color and specular go-to color at the base click on that click on the file click on the little folder and then page one all right there we go so same story with this one if I try to turn it at whoops of course there's no light going in that direction so let me rotate it and everything is backwards not what we want okay this is what we're gonna start using our hyper shade let's activate our hyper shade I'm gonna use my texturing up here again there's a tutorial about that academic phoenix plus comm and let's go ahead and drag this into this window here so we have it stacked this over here maybe close this alright click on this little tab to open it so this is our front of the book this is our other book that i would have sworn i typed it in but it didn't take so I'm gonna press Enter ok now it works that was bizarre alright let's go ahead and take a look at our new node and it's called a AI T wo AI two-sided and notice that it has an SG node right here so that means that it can be rendered so what I'm gonna do is middle mouse and drag it into my texture pink cool all right so it's pretty standard you have a front and then you have a back so I'm gonna grab the front whoops I'm gonna middle mouse and drag this to here and then I am going to grab my page one middle mouse and drag to the back all right let's take a look press play and I'm gonna zoom out a little bit so I can see here can you place it and then when I turn it around it's magic there's a second page pretty cool so it's very very straightforward we can always click on this and see what it's happening so we now have access to this to this two-sided standard shader I'm sorry the AI two-sided Arnold shader then we have our page one and the front and you can always manipulate it and she did to anything you would like that is the basics of how to create a two-sided textures very easy Arnold again I'm starting to appreciate you more and more thank you solid angle and Maya for trying to work this out there's still a lot of weird things going on with this but I am very happy with with Arnold it makes things a lot easier but so that was the basics now I feel like that tutorial was really really simple and I think like I I want to add a section to my tutorials called the plus side my name is academic Phoenix plus and I'm gonna show you the plus so that was a two-sided texture now I'm gonna show you how to animate this book page so that it falls into a table that is going to be the plus here it comes alright let me say it before something horrible happens alright let's go ahead and create a table gonna lift this up a little bit I'm gonna send a new material I'd like things looking like stuff some people leave it as a Lambert or whatever I personally like to make things look nice so I'm gonna add this plank wood here alright so we are we have this I'm gonna go ahead and select these two edit delete by type history modify freeze transformations that clears everything up I'm gonna label my items for example my plane should probably be called table underscore geo and this is gonna be paper underscore geo geo stands for geometry so now that we have this what I'm going to show you is how to create cloth which is going to give it a look that it's paper falling so I'm going to select this I am going to go to VFX and we're going to be using n cloth so n cloth is needs a Collider once passive which means that this one will stand still and then you've got the cloth that actually simulates so we need a Collider actually it's always really funny to do this first let me go to ncloth create and cloth so now you're gonna see that it's got this little guy right here which is the shape or the end cloth node and then this n stands for basically gravity and I'm gonna give myself more time and I need a lot more time so let's go ahead and crease this to 500 and press play OOP there it goes there you go say bye to the piece of paper there goes alright not exactly what we're looking for what we want Wow look at that specularity let me lower that sorry this is gonna bug me a little strong here alright so the cloth disappears I would just want to double check right click playback speed it should say play every frame free so that means that it does play the simulation frame by frame otherwise it won't work and I'm gonna select this piece of paper and put the ups and sorry we already have the end cloth attached to this now we're gonna attach the passive collider so select the floor create a passive collider and now we're gonna press play and now you can see that it's slipping and there it goes okay so rewind the simulation so we got to play with a couple of things one of them is when you select this you're gonna see that there is an nth cloth shape with a preset these presets are really handy and if you guys ever want to play around you'll see that the presets change a lot of these attributes so under presets we have things like burlap chainmail we can and then we go to chainmail replace so I'm gonna rewind and play and then you get to see the effect not exactly what we're looking for so I can try a different one maybe I want to try let's see what concrete looks like not very exciting either so let's try chiffon Chris play there we go it's very graceful maybe I can rotate this a little bit and play very very graceful okay let's see there isn't anything called paper here we do have sheet metal it's not the same but let's go ahead and try t-shirt and see how that reacts and there it goes so if you like this animation but don't like that it's slipping off there's a couple of things we can do I'm gonna move this little tiny little bit higher so we get a bigger effect and maybe there's a little bit bigger because I ever get the feeling that it's just gonna fly away or something and we need to increase the friction thank you select the floor and you have the friction and increase it to let's say something crazy like 100 because I really wanted to stick so I'm gonna every wine press play and yeah that's very sticky so let's go ahead and change the friction to 50 and you can see that it does a really nice job just kind of falling and then just landing okay so maybe change it to see let's try x.25 it's kind of fun so this is what simulators do they test and test and test see what the computer does and then there you go that was a nice one doink okay so it's glancing around 120 frames so I don't need this many frames I'll just do a hundred and twenty alright and that's how you quickly create I'm gonna do a little bit more let's do 200 frames blink there you go that's how you quickly create a piece of paper falling if you wanted to do a little bit more I move rewind you see how I'm frame for there you go so other things you could do is play around with I believe it's under the nucleus yeah the nucleus so the nucleus has a direction gravity but we also have a air density and we also have wind speed just to show you a little bit of fun we also have this thing called a wind speed and what that means and I'm gonna move this a little bit is when you press play it's gonna add a little bit of wind so I'm gonna press let's say 15 and you have a wind direction which is XYZ so this is gonna blow in the X at a positive direction so theoretically should blow this way so in a rewind press play and there goes to wind whoa so it's a little much so let me go ahead and lower it down press play and now I have a little bit of a wind so before you should just fall straight down now it's got a little bit of wind that's gonna help push it and maybe a little you see how it's pushing it even more so now I'm getting a nice little arc cool so I hope that was well you couldn't by the way you can always have a little fun this is actually live so you can actually watch this we you can actually watch this live so it's real time I mean so if you wanted to maybe add a little bit of y-direction you can add a little bit of y-direction and now it's really slipping and it's just just a little fun things to try so that is about it I'm going to render this out maybe when it's actually hitting the ground it's actually pretty fun let's play I'm gonna just get it right there all right cool I'm gonna get a little closer see what that looks like maybe a little closer still I'm a big fan of the lighting yeah I must pick better than the lighting all right let me stop this alright um alright let's go ahead and do our classic Arnold dome let's delete this Arnold lights sky dome let's see we're gonna go to color click on the checker file folder let's see let's grab this one I know that it needs to be raw so I'm gonna go to raw and then let's take a look at that so much better so you see how it's breaking like that dude that means that I don't have enough mesh because the geometry is falling apart so we can try to fix it by going to well we have to be on the modeling mesh smooth see what that looks like now so that definitely looks a lot nicer all right I hope that was fun and helpful I definitely enjoy creating extra little things for you so I think I'm gonna make a habit of it is creating the plus side of these tutorials which is show you what you're looking for which is in this example is a two-sided texture and then maybe give you a little plus so you can have some fun with it and show you how you could push it a little bit further so thank you so much for listening I really appreciate your support if you have any comments or questions just leave them below you can always email me personally don't forget to check out academic Phoenix plus com or you can download the files have fun enjoy keep creating and I will see you next time
