With guns. Target a donut shop in Oakland. Yeah. Just come up in here and you're going to rob them and all that. That's whack . You don't do that. Good evening, everyone. I'm Mike Maybach. And I'm Julie Julie Haener, the manager of Colonial Donuts says this robbery is just another example of how crime is affecting the community as a whole. Elissa Harrington joins us live tonight from Oakland with reaction. Alyssa Well, Julie, mike, this is a small family run business. The owner said that the staff was left shaken, but they are doing their best to rise from this and stay strong. Surveillance video inside Oakland's Colonial Donuts shows the terrifying moments employees were robbed at gunpoint. This happened Friday, just before 1 a.m. at the 24 hour shop on Lakeshore Avenue. Video shows three people enter the store wearing face masks and hoodies and employee in a red hat walks over to take their order. When the individuals jump over the counter, guns drawn, they lead the employee around at gunpoint and make him open a cash register. Other employees in the back are seen with their hands up as well. I think it's terrible and I think it's trifling and considering that this is like a business in our neighborhood by the lake, like, how dare you? Customers who heard about the robbery like Christopher say, came to buy some pastries and show support for the business. Colonial Donuts is a family run business that has been in the neighborhood for four decades. It's sad that, like local restaurants and businesses or whatever cannot just be safe. In a statement to KTVU, store manager Feng Yamamoto wrote We are extremely disappointed and saddened by the recent robbery incident at our Lakeshore location this past Friday. She went on to say It is a distressing time in Oakland right now, not only for small businesses but for the community as a whole. Yamamoto was calling on the mayor and other city leaders to address these types of crimes. It's just not safe. Customers I talked to said they want to see more law enforcement along Lakeshore Avenue to protect businesses and crack down on car break ins and other crimes. We need more police patrol down here, some type of patrolling should happen. It's it seems like it's just so free to break into things and to rob people and no consequences. Police say they are actively investigating and are asking anyone with information to come forward and despite what happened, that donut shop was back open. Reporting live in Oakland,
