Really impressed by all of our boys here. If Tapia can up his plate discipline, some combo of DJ -> Tapia -> Blackmon -> Arenado could do some serious damage in the future. Spectacular stuff from the home team.

Ironically, the Rockies weren't a good team when trailing playing from behind. You can argue that it wasn't due to them quitting, but they were not great at coming back from a deficit.

Based on innings that the Rockies entered trailing, and the league average:

Inning ROCKIES LEAGUE Difference
% W L % W L
2 0.324 12 25 0.343 413 790 -0.019
3 0.260 13 37 0.293 473 1142 -0.033
4 0.190 11 47 0.247 462 1412 -0.057
5 0.129 8 54 0.195 397 1634 -0.066
6 0.108 7 58 0.172 365 1762 -0.064
7 0.087 6 63 0.129 278 1872 -0.042
8 0.044 3 65 0.090 197 1989 -0.046
9 0.030 2 64 0.049 108 2106 -0.019

The biggest outlier is entering the 5th when behind (something that I pointed out during the season last year, actually). The average team won 0.195% of the time when entering the 5th trailing, but the Rockies only won 0.129% of the time. They were below pace when trailing entering every single regulation inning last year. Obviously a big part of that is how much the bats struggled as a whole, but the Rockies were pretty bad at making comebacks last year.

Betty is not pitched in nine days he's just had added 13 and save opportunities so he's been uneven in the opposition getting close to 300 against him and he's appeared just four of the giants last 23 games so how sharp is he gonna be I think that's the one thing you have to look at today as he comes into this ballgame when we know what Melanson that it's a cut fastball which he really likes to throw 93 miles an hour follow up with a changeup and a curveball but it's truly the cut fastball that he that he tries to rely on mainly so buddy's gonna go with Walters who has been swinging the bat exceptionally well to the key did by whities you think with the cutter that do well against right Melanson but Melanson has allowed righties to hit 371 this year you know what they say what cutters aren't good that they're barrel finders and that's what it does to a right-hander goes to his barrel tony played yesterday two for four two more RBIs [Applause] Rocky's need base runners down a pair in the bottom of the ninth ball one company in the tough thing for a closer to what he hasn't been used a lot is how much work to get in not knowing if you're gonna get in the game that night so for mark he's probably had enough side session but not the same adrenaline rush or the control is not the same it's why how many times he hit relievers especially closer say well I need to be in the game every three other guys that know I could sit but nine days a long time you make a great point so I can go okay I'm gonna get working because you may be really working later that ball game that's the strike two and one Melanson is more of a contact closer I mean he gets strikeout don't get me wrong but it was one of the three closers it signed four large contracts in the offseason Kenley Jansen naturally stayed with the Dodgers he's been brilliant again Chapman back to the Yankees it's three in one great choice by Buddy that's not a knock on Tommy Murphy Tommy's hasn't seen a lot of big-league pitching but Tony will force you to throw strikes little smaller strike zone can hit with two two strikes if it gets to that point and a ground ball sharply hit panic with the backhand and that was one out mobility by Joe patty a real good play by Panik won a Gold Glove last year for San Francisco had to slide to make that play on his back in the screws for a moment it might be up the middle in the panic only gets up afterwards [Applause] [Music] so rhyme al Tapia he's chant for his last 18 last four starts he's produced multi-hit games in all four starts trying to get on four black men in that first pitch misses [Music] probably out of the strike zone one at one way out of the strike zone yeah I understand that approach right there now and that's where you have to family tell you earlier about within than a bat what you have to do I mean he has to know that hey I got to get on base and I got to make him throw me a strike trying to hit a three-run home run with nobody on so right now to get into battle mode here [Music] [Applause] [Music] Rocky's trying to extend their four-game winning streak they won seven straight that had the little three game slot they have won four in a row but they're down five three one out the night [Applause] black pit on deck [Applause] [Music] [Applause] let me follow that off and they went off his leg you know what that was like a cricket player there [Applause] beside [Applause] hard to do [Applause] that will hurt the tying run to the plate it black fit the Tavia continues to swing a hot bat before is a hitter now 1 for 5 we saw a swing like this the other night where he dumps it into center field on a low pitch off the end of the the bat that's what you want the crowd still in it the spilling was mentioned in the guys down in the dugout they were still good thing about this club you'd never feel they playing the 27 outs you don't feel like you're ever out of a ballgame is old for 5 against Melanson one out one on to run deficit black met a rare only for Tara [Applause] it's been sitting here for they seen all the hits and runs and everytime it feels like they're gonna go out there Rocky's answer there's no way anybody in a giant uniform in particularly their manager Bruce Bochy is comfortable [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Giants outfielders have moved back there no devils depths a lot of room in front of them strike on Charlie [Music] the longest time has given the size of the catcher what he wants to do is throw over slide steps etc Charlie did a good job waiting on that saw that slider it's going to ten mile an hour difference between the two pitches like in the rally caps the kids learned from dad I'm sure earlier yes they do [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] may he want death DJ Tapia could really run at first [Music] second run that the Giants produced was huge [Applause] the air was an utter run that are still still a run [Applause] I want to - - just a third error on rental [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] the game started bar reaches high schools taught block for the Giants and now they're hoping golden high schools mark Melanson could close it out Rockies are hope at the exact opposite job by Charlie fighting that pitch off [Applause] here we because of the outfield death [Applause] so much Muro that cords field in front of the outfielders gorky's Hernandez it's close to is closer to Daren halls than he is mark Melanson or even quite frankly the second baseman Joe Panik he's almost in the rockies bullpen and that's why they played the no doubles up by two but the tying runs of the plate Charlie loops one to Center this one's going to drop also exactly what we were talking about first and third that should have been routine fly ball spam could get there and the Rockies have two odd and the winning run coming to the plate and LeMahieu earlier in this game eighth inning on down it would have been an out but with the no doubles death and now deep they're playing a lot of green out there Tapia goes to third I think Charlie just watching him out of the box thought it was an out right because it typically it is just notice how deep they are and how much room there is an expanded one to try to die for that because if he died then the run scores and Charlie when you go up to second possibly third so he didn't do it so DJ swing at the back as well as anybody for the Rockies in this series walk today we'll try to move the train along and the Rockies an uncharacteristic old for seven today with runners in scoring position they are by far the best in baseball [Applause] called strike right there in the Subaru strikes on the crowd reacting to the jackknifed movement of LeMahieu but DJ jackknifed because he's thinking cut her away I need to get something away from me where I can hit it the other way I don't want to take a chance and trying to pull something to rollover into a double play he's got to get the ball in the air at the very least oh one now oh and to sofa lancet pounding at least on the first two deliveries pounding DJ in one was down the first one the second one was up - both lovers up the middle are set for two which does with a nice-sized opening in that three-and-a-half hole where DJ produces so many hits do you go here if you're charlie I don't think so [Music] nope and a ground ball toward that hole throw base hit block mijito first to third safe there DJ comes through five to four feet away this is playing out just like we described it first it was a no doubt once you get the blueprint then you say there's a big hole between first and second that three and a half what does DJ do hits it right there with a five hopper but again because of the alignment it sneaks through and Charlie hustle in the hallway beats the throw into third base this is banged a third 36 ribbies for DJ on an O 2 pitch and you have the absolute right guy to play in Dolan ariados and the Rockies one for what for eight now with runners in scoring position [Applause] N'awlins day started off great that's just an ant grab the triple the single and a double to left field for an RBI and again a leeteuk defensive allotment for the third straight [Applause] it sucks the outfielders in a little bit gaffur yeah don't worry going d taken run [Applause] so what's the infield - they're playing a little bit more shallow up the middle the plane DoublePlay depth so that ball can sneak by then your age isn't his grave and any kind of dirt ball you have an aggressive fast guy at third and Blackman here we go five that's a cycle he gets wet cargo walk psycho like these 2017 [Applause] he's bleeding a little we didn't come up here last time he got cutted into the yellow so I got goose bumps remarkable why do we say go to this in this clock never quits I said this day started out great it has a chance to end great [Applause]
