[Music] hello my dear audience today we're gonna visit the orango marbrisa house almost entirely made out of concrete built against rocks and overlooking the bay of acapulco this house belongs to the very very best john lautner ever designed with this curving lines it resembles both the shape of the clouds the wave of the ocean and a spaceship at the same time more than 50 years after its finalization the house looks as futuristic as it ever was the house has two names marbrisa means sea breeze in spanish the name orango refers to its commissioner geronimo arango was a mexican supermarket owner and billionaire he used his house as a vacation retreat geronimo erengo gave john lotner the commission for this house after he was impressed by the elroth house the urango house has many similarities with the elrod house both houses are built on a rock and they are recognizable by unique shaped concrete roof with large open spaces and open windows beneath that roof while the elrod house was already a revolutionary achievement john lautner went even a step further with the urango house by removing every wall beneath the roof the house is completely open to the air from the interior you have fantastic panoramic views the concrete roof of the arengo house is way larger than the elrod house and it was a difficult challenge for john lautner to design such a structure this makes the orango house perhaps the most daring of all john lauder designs it's an absolute pinnacle and lautner's engineering capabilities so let's take a look inside on this scale model you have a clear overview of the entire building the street is above the house a snake-like driveway leads to the front door there are two floor levels the rooftop terrace which you can consider as an open living room below are the sleeping quarters the most distant future of the building is a fan-shaped roof that is above the terrace this roof protects the living room against a burning mexican sun the far ends of the roof are leaning on the hillside further the sun shield is only supported by five pillars when you arrive at street level it doesn't look really spectacular a high concrete wall hides the treasure behind it but once you go down following the driveway you immediately see the beauty of john lautner's design a large bronze front door provides access to the terrace this terrace acts like a huge outdoor living room [Music] a narrow swimming pool streams like a river around the terrace three of the five roof pillars divide the terrace in separated living spaces tree bridges overlapping the swimming pool and give access to the terrace the large kitchen is at the right side of the terrace the kitchen has windows that are overlooking the driveway from the terrace the house looks almost like a large sculpture the curves and lines make the concrete almost sensual the swimming pool is used as a safety fence that prevents people from falling off the terrace in contrast to a real fence and never spoils the view towards the landscape [Music] here you can see that the sun reflects in the water of the ocean as well as in the water of the swimming pool blending them together and giving the illusion that the ocean is right at the start of the terrace john loner believed that the inside of a house should be combined with the nature outside in no other design he succeeded so well as in the urango house living in this house is like living in a landscape the concrete couch is designed by arthur elrod the commissioner of the elroth house at the end of the terrace is a stair that leads to a lower balcony this balcony is connected to the sleeping quarters to provide extra sunlight a half circular hole is made in a roof [Music] [Applause] at the other side of the main terrace is a spiral staircase that leads to the sleeping quarters that are partly under the terrace and partly under the driveway the second living room is used only in times of bad weather and during evenings most of the times the terrace above acts like the actual living room one of the pillars that supports the roof is clearly visible in the living room [Music] there are four bedrooms each with their own individual bathrooms the blue line indicates the terrace above there's one large master bedroom [Music] one of the concrete pillars that is supporting the roof comes through the ceiling of the master bedroom from the jacuzzi you have a beautiful view of the bay giving you the feeling that you are relaxing in the ocean a large rock that enters the bedroom forms an organic wall blending the landscape with the interior of the bedroom from the living room is an outside stair that brings us to the garden that's on a lower level [Music] there's a large oval shaped swimming pool in the garden [Music] we end our tour with a sunset over the pacific ocean this was your tour guidance thank you for watching until next time good bye
