Can you believe it? Can you realize that we, that you and I, that all of us, have actually begun the exploration of another world! We have taken the first historic step
into our solar system. The lunar age has begun. and with it mankind's march
upward into that endless sky in this small planet, circling an insignificant star in a minor Solar System
on the fringe of a seemingly infinite Universe I believe that this nation should commit itself
to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon
and returning him safely to the earth. We choose to go to the moon in this decade
and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard. There was a fire and the crew got killed. You know the world stopped at that point in time.
It changed everything. Apollo 1 maybe was the catalyst that allowed us to pick up the pieces and not just get the job done to get it... get it done right. We have ignitions systems start. The engines are on. 4, 3, 2, 1, 0. We were all totally amazed by the Earthrise. It was representative of mankind stepping away from their home planet for the first time Given a task to do, one that seems impossible. Given the desire to do it,
humans can accomplish almost anything! The mission of Apollo 11: A journey certainly for the history books. The beginning of man's greatest adventure. Leaving this planet to set foot on the moon. Think of those three men and the burdens and the hopes they carry on behalf of all mankind, Mission director: receiving the end callouts. Certify go for launch? Go for launch. Okay Huston, as I stand out here in the wonders of the unknown at Hadley, I sort of realize there's a fundamental truth to our nature: Man must explore! Here on my left hand, I have a feather. Probably one of the most significant things we can think about when we think of Apollo is that it has opened a challenge of the future. The door is now cracked, but the promise of that future lies in the young people, not just in America, but the young people all over the world. and as I take man's last steps from the surface, I'd like to just list, what I believe, history will record America's challenge of today and forge man's density of tomorrow. as we leave the Moon at Taurus-Littrow, we leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind.
