Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
My father has worked a high clearance aircraft sector job for my whole life. Heโs not a pilot but has access to all airports and planes for inspections and safety.
About 15 years ago when I was in high school he took me to check out an Antinov that was loading machine parts to fly somewhere. While standing in the loading bay in the rear I noticed that there was a can of Coke but it was in Russian. I really wanted it for my collection of things from around the world. When I asked the nearest Russian guy if I could have a coke, Iโll never forget his response. โNoโ
I still think about that coke can.
Man, when they mentioned the consequences of the cargo shifting mid air, I immediately though of this video. Imagine something like that happening with this beast.
They took a piece of the fence with them when they left an airbase in Canada.
Itโs absolutely massive, Is it commercially viable? Kinda? Like itโs probably not very economically viable for most. The amount of cargo it can move at what dollar cost itโs probably fairly low compared to others. Howeverrrr for the loads that planes canโt carry normally if this can? You can charge WAY more than normal because there isnโt really an alternative, then it becomes economically viable.
makes me wonder what makes that type of airplane still useable till this day when converting a380 to a cargo plane is a money loss.
Hey Iโve flown in that plane! It was carrying a 62 Tonne tank inside at the time and took 2 days to get to destination. Had a few social drinks with the Russian crew members during the stop over on board because we couldnโt leave the aircraft. An interesting few days to say the least
I remember being at Download Festival around 2013(?) and this thing flying over us at 10AM from East Midlands Airport.
Used often in defense\military related projects. The combination of size and modularity make it effective for that.
Just watched this finally. A bit heavy on the dramatics. The largest load ever ever ever (maybe it was?), had to work fast to get back before nighttime (but they clearly got back with hours of daylight to spare not to mention the 90minute flight), etc. good view inside how it all works tho
