Answer to the question: Does the light have to be close to the camera lens?

so question I'm getting asked is whether the green ring light needs to be close to the lens of a camera and the answer I believe is yes if I switch on the green here well first thing you can see the background and I've just ripped it up it's very very basic and lots of you do a better job than this when you were doing it properly but I just want to demonstrate the effectiveness I'm sitting extremely close to it and it's stopped with massive folds and really dark shadows and it's stretching it to its limit really but anyway um this is what happens when the green lights are switched on you can see that the reflective material reflects the green which is where it's supposed to do and if it's not too blown out you should be able to see where the position of the ring is now I'm gonna move it and I'll put picture in picture so you can see so here we go and move it to the left of the camera and you can see the effectiveness of that if the effectiveness of the reflectiveness is marginally reduced or vastly reduced and the more remove away or worse it gets and you put it in line that's okay you also notice that when I do that what happens is it creates shadows that the camera can't pick up all the green doesn't illuminate so there are extra shadows there you see sort of side of my face here that is an area of this isn't being picked up by the green light so you're gonna get the key isn't gonna work so that's why it's a ring light the ghosts that surrounds the lens and therefore all the shadows remain lit with green and that's what you need to happen so hopefully that will explain it why the green light needs to be surrounding the lens
