sure a Tony Awards wrap up Monday attracts you've got nothing to do relax oh sure just we mama is gonna sorry yeah the first time I was given on the opportunity to sing that song was in the revival of in 1973 I remember so well our first preview and experiencing something on that stage unlike anything that I'd ever felt before and of course it was complete and abject terror I kept thinking this show isn't mine it belongs to someone else but somewhere near the end of the first act in the middle of that song I I said okay this is fine sure that song had belonged to Ethel Merman and some day it would belong to someone else again but just for that moment it was mine with apologies of course to mr. Stein and mr. Samba but that's what the theatre does it provides both us who are lucky enough to work in it and the audience a chance to share and hold a moment that belongs to no one else now those moments may be gone as quickly as they come and yet somehow they live on both in their time and in our memories and tonight we're here to celebrate the moments and the magic of the past theatre season welcome to the 1989 Tony Awards tonight live from New York aleikum and producers and the container wing welcome you to 1989 Tony Awards with our host Angela Lansbury an evening of celebration to honor this year's the African season with appearances by the stars of the prom
