[Music] last time i bought it keezy i was on this ground it was my first ball i came running against him i'd honestly i didn't want to get out and the first ball was a loosener he's come forward it knit back hit him in the belly and then trickled onto the stumps why do you talk about time i've got 100 against you did you i can't remember that one now the thing i always thought about you with your bowling ones the bowling looked like it was so simple for you you could hit a length you could do everything with the ball you wanted without really having to think about it is that fair there's probably a bit more thought going into it than you think yeah it was simple i was very limited in what i can do right all i was doing was just trying to hit the seam right but because i couldn't practice through all the injuries i got injured so many times i wasn't one of bowling in the nets and practicing all the time because i thought that my body has got a limited amount of balls in it and i don't want to waste them in the neck how old were you then when you started thinking 23 really that i started bowling again at 23 properly yeah and then i realized that it hurts i'm going to get hurt so what i did was i thought about it so much and they talk about visualization which we used to love as kids but i used to think about my ballwin so much that i almost thought i'd practice more than which i had so i got into a game just knowing exactly what i was going to do right and there's only one technical thing which i only used i didn't kill my arms when i didn't kill my legs went i just went to run in wazzy macram told me when i was about 17 about bowling yeah you're just a thumb position so if i'm going to a right-hander i just rest the ball on the outside of my thumb oh okay hold it seam up every ball of ball will save up i just rest it what that did was see the position of my wrist yeah i rested on my thumb it puts my wrist on that side of the ball not to say that i swung it away kept your wrist firm and able to be i run with it locked so i'd come in so it'd come out like that it wouldn't swing but it's going to hit the seam to the left-hander when i came around the wicket or over the wicket going across him all i'd do was i'd put the ball on the flat of my thumb yeah now watch what it does to my wrist straight away just moves it just turns your wrist that was it no tricky balls no nothing all that stuff to girl chris that's we did right get down there now i haven't batted i'm just gonna say this i haven't batted for about two years i've got rid of all my kit that's why this bat is nearly broken i've got joe denny's pads on his gloves on no thigh pad can't be dreading this any more than i actually am so now you're at the top of your mark what are you thinking i put a ball in my hand at the same time every time i stand here i make a conscious decision i pause i place the ball in my hand and decide then exactly what i'm gonna ball and as i run in you don't really matter i just got in my head exactly what i'm gonna bowl and what about length and line you just know you just it's a whole feel i'm gonna try and drag you forward and you're not gonna hit me i'm gonna hit you oh brilliant i'm hitting your back yeah great well as long as you hit me back you see that was the worst thing about facing you especially on a slope here is that angle in yeah because you don't mind bowlers nicking you off but you always if anything you'd be slightly wider the crease and it would just come back into you did you ever try and swing it out i was always trying to swing it out right i was always holding it to try and go that way yeah knowing the chances of it happening are slim but if i don't know it's going to happen what are you going to know i've got absolutely no i'm sitting the seam and the one thing you had as well was such good control of length you could just slam it down there all day long one of the things that i found really hard was as i got older i sat amazing i got quicker yeah because if i tried to come in and bowl at 80 percent i wouldn't know where it's going yeah i had to be balls out all the time trying to hit the pitch and all it's going same thing really every single time whenever you played against freddie he was always at you he wasn't necessarily the bloke you felt was going to chip your edge off or anything like that he just felt he was going to hit your splice over and over again it's such presence when he's running in as well you'd see that ball coming out oh there you go a little bit of shape a little bit of shape that time though white ball isn't it so you probably get what that's a new white ball so you get a couple of overs of swing at best oh that's where i want to be yeah that's what i wanted to do just run you down for a single get up the other end perfect a lot of talk nowadays about death bowling there's a lot of talk about how you and goff were so good just getting new yorkers in all the time is the yorker still the ball it was when you were playing i don't i don't think it has the same effect and i find it really flattering because you see a game and your name crops up and say oh he was good at yorkers but i remember when the game changed because it used to bowl yorkers your biggest friend bowling yorkers was reverse swing yeah you want to get that ball reversing and tailing in but what used to happen keys it was sorry man you used to get batsman and they plant the feet yeah even the indians like dorney everyone says he's a great hitter i didn't mind blowing it donny because his feet were planted you know you bald i remember the ben stalks over in the c20 world cup final i'll breathe with them i don't know yeah because it was so easy to take his hands off him because he was here waiting was there be de villiers i played an ipl game i thought i'd just come in and borrow my yorkers i love doing it getting a few wickets but then all of a sudden say that's my yorker yeah here or a little bit fuller so if you're back here that's fine but then he'll be de villiers he started doing this yeah so all of a sudden my yorkers are full toss yeah and you get back in his crease i remember ravi bappara batting here at kent a couple of years ago he was standing like that where'd your balls people didn't do that as much then when you no people either came forward or they went back yeah but they were they weren't trying to do these fancy shots they were hitting down the ground yeah and i think head position has changed so much for batsmen yeah because they're prepared now to get the head into this position all of a sudden your fine leg they're not just hitting it up there yeah and i didn't have a slower ball i had no variation yorker bouncer if i had two overs at the death i backed myself on board 11 yorkers i might get it wrong i might go for a boundary who cares but i wasn't running in thinking again i'm going to try and borrow yorker what about a challenge can you get one yorker in and i'll see if we need six to win no four to win for me i think yeah i was never good i'll get your kun all right but i i didn't run in thinking i'm going to try and boil yorker i ran in nine i'm gonna bowl one go on in up it not quite oh that has hurt my hands freddy said thank you very much
