imagine the smash announcer says your name alex and he hates you the formless faceless announcer of super smash brothers what's his deal why does anyone care why is he going to say ganondorf like that for a long time i thought i was the only one who really gave a [ __ ] about this waiting for brawl to come oh i hope they give luigi the respect he deserves hey that's luigi show him a little respect but it seems like i'm not alone many people love the smash announcer failure and they eagerly wait to see how he's gonna say some of the new dlc characters names chevron but where did it begin games had announcers probably as soon as games learned they could include voice acting and for narrators they made use of it to instruct players on what to do or where they were selecting but the announcer they only started having themed ones in fighting games like i'm sure mortal kombat comes in everyone's mind but now they sort of exist in any competitiveness nice car nice on nice birdie pin shot bogey oh too bad oh [ __ ] you the smash announcer however is almost as iconic as the games themselves his otherworldly formless voice really was unlike any other announcer i'd ever heard and for me having melee is my first game mr dean harrington's syllables and pronunciation have become lodged in my synapses and i accidentally hear them in the walk oh god was that melee oh my god he's haunting me where is he where are you i mean come on samus is a chickpea i wonder if these guys knew how iconic their voices would be i wonder if they would have said some stuff differently [ __ ] now smash 64's announcer was pretty consistent with each character i didn't play much of it but mr jeff manning his [Applause] that that is just iconic but in terms of special twang he kind of just did a wrestler commentator and it worked out very well melee however is where is it just me or why do they say what is that what is game is that a japanese thing is this tennis i know what tennis looks like and this isn't tennis but with dean harrington it was the way he said things not just the things he was saying like you know you'll have your normal characters and they're set in the way you think captain falcon boom we're rolling through these are pretty clean but wait what's going on [Music] sounds like a stern parent at the grocery store ganondorf yeah this game for more reasons than one was the beginning of this formless anonymous character's legacy and for the title of a game nobody knew how to say it and he says it on the title screen it almost sounds like he's saying [Music] and now you will never be able to unhear it which brings us to that's right super smash bros brawl with the legendary pat big money catchment this guy's a legend why well if you've seen one of these before chances are you've heard about them [Music] tv funnyman bill nye joins me on the next jackie smash show i can't believe they handed me such an easy edit years ago i half investigated this but you don't know the half of it i'm letting the electrons discharge now where do they go when we discharge them home maybe it's so stupid well they go under the ground now when you say the ground you mean the ground like the earth like part of our planet that's what i was thinking yeah the ground one has two eyes scaly skin and a weird tongue my uncle ernie no reptiles like i said he's just a disembodied voice here but the difference is it's mostly for comedy and it was the funniest part of the show for most kids you hungry i think these guys are careful watch that anyways back to smash i knew brawl's announcer was goofy but now it all makes sense something about the way he spoke was so powerful yet perfectly goofy like zeus waiting at customer service but this is the first game where the real bias comes in and that is for real luigi you know poor luigi at this point in the mario series this is when he started getting treated as a joke and the announcer had to punch down on him like what the [ __ ] giant oh other than all of this he did a top-notch job in this game when i think of the smash announcer i think of the brawl one immediately every name read matches the character he's talking about see a character's evil a serious fighter a goofy one stealthy guys big celebrations unthreatening world destroyer kirby universe destroyer so you probably know they have japanese and english names for some of the characters like koopa but also many of the pokemon like oh shiggy so i don't know i really like that it's also funny that they made pat cashman go and for pokemon specifically it's different in every language her bizarre [ __ ] brilliant what the hell but it cannot top sorry what were we talking about but a weird thing they changed for the us was olimar was referred to as instead of just and i sort of liked that that's how it was on the website that's how i came to know it and then they changed it when the game released and this has no point or anything i just wanted to tell someone pokemon trainer yeah pokemon trainer and he did a great job i didn't even need to go back and listen to any of these voices they say nothing comes with you to the grave but i'll never forget how he said grab the coins i'm sorry do you not want to be here the only issue i had was how he said game like melee was just so snappy and sharp like this one had a little bit of slow-mo after and it just sort of felt like a deflating balloon but the japanese version is just way more hard-hitting like oh god i do that again game set is that one not cooler am i just crazy nobody's talked about pat cashman this much but finally we reach the most recent smash announcer and he is the final form of every smash announcer up until this point apparently he kind of just stumbled onto the roll when he saw we want it to sound like pat cashman also say donkey kong that's grand theft auto but no he saw that and he said step into the ring amazing and believe it or not he claims that every character was said with a specific intent to match who the character is you want to make them sound big and imposing some of the weird biased ways he says names sort of have a story to them too like ah everyone has a problem with this i think i've seen a petition about it apparently they tried doing the mario link sonic ganondorf but then it sort of felt like someone yelling through a drive-through speaker except happily and about mario characters so mr mobis said that he was then directed to say characters in a way that sort of felt like them bowser was very scary and strong so he went [Music] because he's a little goofy snot-nosed [ __ ] for brains piss-piled diaper-wearing bendy straw sipping kid on a leash looking ass koopa piece of [ __ ] i would've said it worse but xander went bowser jr he's the fun version he apparently did that as a shot in the dark in the booth and was surprised to find that it was in the official game that led to some of the other ones from wii u all the way to the characters being revealed in ultimate he's really mastered the smash announcer voice how weird's it gotta be he was cast for smash bros he was in persona 5. smash bros ultimate comes out after that joker's in smash ultimate and he announces the character he was in after he was initially in smash bros but before he was in the smash bros my head hurts i find it really endearing that mr xander mobis auditioned for this role in a very similar mind to how i feel about the smash announcer it's just a fun voice to do sometimes and lo and behold he became the official smash announcer and arguably is the best at it king k rool joker sephiroth steve alex alex alex alex alex alex phillips alex alex alex alex alex [Music] so [Music] you
