welcome everyone Adam the Wu here has a recording of this Saturday August 5th 2023 I have a Tim Hortons coffee for day number two win in the Detroit area if there's well I guess they're also in Canada you know anything about Canada I've heard a few things heard a few things Tim Hortons available in Canada Detroit a little bit of New York I think Indianapolis I once met a guy from from Canada is that a limerick where's that going Scott on tape is here what's up everybody he is going to give me so this is basically going to be your episode I think so I have no plan you said anything you have planned scratch it off your list you're planning the day we're taking your rental car you picked me up at the hotel I don't even know what we're gonna see I don't even know where we're at right now okay so we are right now we're south of eight mile so eight mile is a dissecting road that Detroit Detroit from this is not a siren yeah tornado siren let's go let's go I'm inviting you to join me this is twister filming locations and Shout Out Scott on tight join me yeah what is that is that a noon siren that is crazy no it's not new it's already won at noon a lot of small towns Detroit's not a small town have a siren in it so where are we at Scott so this is somewhat world famous I would say world famous this is Dresden Street okay now this video I'm going to take you to music places historical locations family locations everything call it a Detroit's Greatest Hits I'm gonna title at that Detroit Detroit now as and it's not going to be all about Eminem Eminem is from Detroit he is okay musician you have a tattoo yeah yeah there he goes love them now we're not gonna get We're Not Gonna scare away people by just doing too much Eminem but this right here if you look straight ahead see this there's Sirens coming from both directions this driveway this tree this is where Eminem's famous Dresden house sat oh and the cover of The Marshall Mathers LP is biggest selling LP and the Marshalls is that the high my name is album no that's the first album that's the first time I'll show you right now if it's zoom in on my phone okay let's go over here in the shade so that's the house there you can see the leaves from the tree that tree is right in front of us still it's the only thing standing a couple of kids came in here not about 10 years ago and it burned down yeah their party inside it was less than 10 years ago we came back twice for another album as well Marshall matters I'm gonna show you that one too moisture Mathers LP number two right there you see it the house was boarded up by that time yeah now those front steps though Adam if you zoom in yeah the front steps are there I have the first front step you took the front step yes because when I came with my friends it's been totally as you see stripped people take take parts of the tree parts of the tree and we'll give a shout out to the gentleman who lives across the street if he's home he has strips of the tree he shellacks them over there and yeah right Greenhouse great guy he shlacks them signs them and sells them but this is where the house you stand and so that you can see the tree on the album cover oh yeah and the driveway the driver right there your rental car is right there at the at the Forefront of Marshall Mathers driveway yeah no this driver yeah oh yeah right here if it wasn't all green back here right now if you come in the fall there is a beehive back there yeah that's what that box is that's a beehive yes honeybees there's honeybees and on the next location and I don't want to be a Thomas J there's a butterfly now I didn't even say what I wanted to see but I really was hoping he would show me some Eminem spots yeah because yesterday I mentioned yesterday's video I showed the Eight Mile sign and I didn't really know if that's where the movie was based on that road because the roads are just someone coming through with some mattresses yeah someone's got some new mattresses new matched so Eight Mile the road is where they got the name of the movie Eight Mile yes and Eminem lived above Eight Mile he lived below Eminem did not live so much in a trailer park like in the movie the movie's Lucy basin's like he lived more than houses all right he lived on Navarro he lived I if you ever want to go to my channel got on tape on YouTube yeah I didn't either you've done some deep dots a deep dive is Eminem So yeah lots of he lived in lots of places but yeah the movie's based surrounding Mile and you're gonna take me to a food establishment that's kind of kind of has to do with him and have lighter that's what we're going to end up we're gonna end there yeah another food assassin Gilbert's Lodge where he used to work we're gonna go by there no there is a pay phone right here and an old looks like an old bar that was covered in Ivy all right painted on the side oh it's the rainbow radiator nice open for business or motorcycle right here made it over to the Linux block Club here Linux with a vision this neighborhood another spot I like this church the greater Missionary Baptist Church is located here oh it's that old ambulance it just went by when you were driving over here I even just kind of like yelled out to you like look at this big bull head I did and you go that's where I'm going it's a corner of Mack and Linux yeah right here so what's the backstory on this big this was an owl head this was an ice cream place back in the day it's been closed for quite a long time now but you can see where you'd walk up to the counter yeah it was open for years in Detroit 1804. not only do I know how much he like roadside attractions which this would definitely be it's in the movie Eight Mile another eight mile spot this is in Eight Mile when Eminem and his friends are driving right along here this is Mack Avenue driving along here with a paintball gun there it is right there there's the cow head classic my head's almost as big as the cow had I mean it's just like an illusion because I'm in the fourth round here it is you yeah it's massive I think that I remember are there any remnants of the paint up there still dude I was noticing this as we went by this is like a modern day Burger King that is now empty and closed well let's give it a shot they're gonna try to try to go through the drive through here try to order something I'm gonna get a Whopper there's a guy in an ambulance right there looking at us nuggets nuggets nuggets nuggets nuggets I don't think there's anyone here I guess you have to go right up to the window in order what's your most popular gym they don't have a frosty dude wow I think they're closed we'll try tomorrow yeah yeah we'll come back tomorrow oh wow it's a tree it's like going through a car wash represent but you're from Canada all right Scott got really excited we pulled over he found the house from the film still on Eight Mile for a little while now we're way south of England but it's a movie the movie this is where he kind of gives the middle finger to his friends with her drop them off yeah cheddar Bob's house is not uh another care of the film his house is not too far from here that was in the movie what is this building next to it it's beautiful whatever it is like a big ornate church right there all right we've crossed over onto Bell Island and I noticed this whole boat right here oh and here's a here's an Easter egg or a clue for like a look at this look at that that is cool number four it's mc2782 is the number there on the the front of the boat across the shore that's Canada over there which part of Canada is that where you live you live in that building right there three up three or over Down the Roof then drive four hours so you got a pretty good roof view now well this is the anchor I will tell you this is the anchor for the amethyst girl but it's not the anchor that was on the a part of the boat when it sank this anchor fell off a year before The Edmond Fitzgerald tank so the anchor that's why the Anchor's here that's and they were able to salvage it but yeah so here they are raising the anchor in 1992 and sorry Adams interrupt that's the Detroit River I forgot to say the Detroit River yes by the evening of 1974 anchor the Detroit River Bell aisle Anchorage 800 feet off ryapel Street the Renaissance Center uh resistance is straight ahead if you can't see so this anchor here yeah look at it it is this anchor here nice little breeze out here today all right this is pretty wild there's an old like a carnival slide over here ticket booth and gate closes 30 minutes prior to the slide closing I don't believe this is open anymore it could be but it does not look like it is quite operational Perhaps it is it's just not not open at the moment but this looks like it's seen better days and no longer in use maybe it has I don't know it's a place over here called Mr Fish and Seafood I don't know if Mr fish might be the owner or maybe Mr Fish and seafood though I miss the fish [Music] it's like an eyeball right there all right these little sewage tubes that have been painted got the skyline Detroit skyline over there Brewster wheeler Recreation Center yes now Adam yes when you okay first of all by the way Eminem stuff we should also say Eminem did not invent Detroit hip-hop it's been around for a long time 80s 90s right big artists coming out and like Regional like stuff like in California like NWA was not popular in New York for a long time California J dilla Smiley uh street board lots of hip-hop bands from the 90s in Detroit so shout out to them but when you think of Detroit what kind of music do you think rap other than rap Joe Lewis trained it was a boxing gym this was a library when it first opened then it became a Rec Center so Joe Lewis trained here and The Supremes Diana Ross Supreme I know them they use this as a rehearsal space no kidding so before Motown this is where it got started so this is pre Motown this is primo town Diana Ross of The Supremes practice right in there yeah 1917 I believe this Brilliance and it's now being repurposed the city's taking offers I read but no takers but look how close is to downtown like it's been run down by Joe Lewis man so it was a makeshift boxing yeah right center inside and a practice space for a lot of artists I would have never guessed that right just driving by it I was thinking this is where the rap battles were for me oh this is now we're gonna get into some Motown stuff now we're gonna do some Motown yeah my entire life I never knew why it was called Motown motor Town Motor City learn something new we are now over in Hamtramck place called Smalls right here which I have a little memory of and many years ago a decade ago been in a few different Punk fans but I was in a band that played here I was gonna play bass for a band called gutter mouth in Southern California and we were on tour with agent orange we played in here I believe it was October 2013 and where the bands would load in including myself and the other bands was right around the corner so we had our our van parked right over there and the bass player you know I had always heard things about Detroit you just got to kind of be careful in certain areas and something happened right over here by this door yeah and you can see some of the stickers that are on here not seeing any of the Bands play I mean I've been 10 years ago basically right over here at this door is where the bands would like load in and out of right there was that even open yeah I can't even tell if it's open so basically the bass player from agent orange their band was like right here and he walked out and someone said give me give me your money and give me your wallet and give me your phone so he just had to like hand the hand it off right there just two feet from the door felt pretty bad for him just like just like that walked out had to go back out to the car was trying to get something from the van it was right here and just like that had his possession just taken from him is it before or after the game before or after what it was before the gig yeah they hadn't even played yet still played though still played yeah super nice guy bass player agent I didn't even realize that Burke's Igloo across the street over here that's that that's the impression I have of Detroit until that was the last time I was in Detroit anyway just uh it's just interesting little tie in right over here at Smalls is this the Detroit skyline right here or is this the Hamtramck definitely not having hammock probably Detroit yeah I guess so this was painted in 2020 and speaking of alleys Scott has brought me to a Hamtramck alley well I know I've seen a couple of years one or two I think I skimmed through um it's Alan the woo right great you like Disney right occasionally yeah on a rare occasion welcome to hamtramck's Disneyland in an alley in an alley so this guy built all this dimitro yeah this guy right here sly Slack am I pronouncing that correct dimitro passed away Sizzla sizzlak passed away 2015. no I feel like I'm at like Pee-wee's Playhouse right now right look at this so it's in like his backyard yep 30 years you worked on this and uh yeah you died at 92 years I see Mickey right here yeah so they're all sorts of crazy stuff you just put this all together look at this there he is unique Contraption spin whirl and retirees backyard so it's not being torn down but yeah since you're hearing over time and they're planning to reconstruct some of it that's what the science and I was reading about that too oh there's a there's a building permit up there so they're doing something this is great yeah look at all this stuff okay it says they welcome visitors yeah but to ensure safety in the Privacy attendance please do not enter the yard unless accompanied by a member yeah I've only seen I've never been inside if you go on the street side it says probably keep out proceed to Alley so they want they want you to come around to the app yeah but I've never seen anybody working or whatever this is awesome it's also interesting that he actually used the name Disneyland and still I was able to is that incorporated it might be frowned upon with a corporation but maybe I mean I'm sure they know about it Disney doesn't like to litigate yeah so it's just this little back area yeah but there's really cool stuff on the other side it's too bad can you see it from the front or no no but look at this do you see the skeleton horse skeleton horse oh wow don't think I've seen that at Magic Kingdom feed your horses people feed your horses just hold it it's not just a horse it's a unicorn was it a unicorn yeah you look great through years yeah there's a full there's a well not full size but a decent sized plane and what's this like a pirate like uh Crow's Nest up there or something yeah there used to be more stuff on the roof and you can see where some of it's gone now yeah it used to be much more and even over here there's more I remember seeing more before but right through here you look down and you see that's where you would enter from the street this horse is up top okay yeah so you can see that's the street entrance there yeah back when he was alive and he would oh there's a windmill look at that look at the Windmill turning yeah it kind of has that like Mary Blair inspired small world vibe to it foreign over to another little area the road is closed this is the corner of Rhode Island and Oakland I almost just tripped over the sandbag right here I was like what are you paying attention now you said I would probably know what this is but it's not ringing a bell as soon as I walk up is this well let me ask you a question filming location yes not eight mile are you a fan of Clint Eastwood oh you're kidding me Gran Torino baby what is it right here on the left is it right up here oh I love that movie are you freaking kidding me yeah yeah right here oh I forgot that was Detroit yeah yeah that is great is it this beige one nope oh yeah the bathing sorry yeah no way is the garage still around the back take a look oh yes man yes I love that movie house right here greater what garage is around back look at that that's where the Gran Torino was so this is where the neighbors lived right here right there in that house there yeah wow someone lives here still dude this is awesome actually I talked to the people here they're really really nice when I was filming my video out here a while ago and this house was used too right here you could see it across I think somebody else somebody else in the movie lived here one thing I know is the pool is gone dude this is awesome man what a great movie all shot takes place in the train and all shot yeah so was a lot of the other spots too like the the part where the guys are like trying to harass the girl and all that the church around here so you did a fulfillment locations on Gran Torino all right let's check out Scott on tape this is awesome you see where the pole was you can see where the pole was nuts look at the look at the difference right there yeah man that is so cool so many scenes of him up there on the porch yeah smoking is still smoking like a stogie up there yeah I mean they walk back and forth across this long a million times in the movie yeah that's Gran Torino man what's up man I totally forgot that was an infield in Detroit get off my lawn classic it's about the only thing you can quote from that movie without that's true yeah yeah because Walt was not a yeah he's an anti-hero it's it's the yeah the end of the movie it all pays kind of pays off yeah one of the most brilliantly made movies I mean it's just such a good news he's such a great director hey Clint Eastwood was right here got one of these mobile Library leave a book take a books in front of the house here right next to the neighbors yeah hey look beautiful free I was not expecting this but this makes me pretty happy because I love that movie yeah that's the garage right there all right we're now over at the Alfonso Wells playground what happened here well this wall excuse me Adam this wall see this cement wall yeah just separating this is a sad part of history of course to separate the black neighborhood from a whitening so the community was given a choice whether to tear it down or not whether they take down the wall they decided to keep it up and I'm gonna miss Clovis um history loss this history that can be repeated sort of thing and also teach future Generations so now it's predominantly African-American on both sides of the world but yeah it used to separate the white neighborhood from the black neighborhood which is unbelievable to think was it always painted this way no the community has painted this uh there should be some yeah there's Rosa right there good boss and it just goes on down here so basically a concrete wall [Applause] so yeah this would be the north side that's going towards all right we're now over to another location yeah corner of Monica and Outer Drive Outer Drive take a look what it and not only did Marvin Gaye live here but Barry Gordy for uh founder of Motown lived here and when Marvin married Barry's sister Barry sold it to Marvin and this in the backyard is the back cover of what's going on Marvin by the fire pit isn't that wild that is wild that's an out like what's going on is one of the the biggest albums of all time all right there still there yeah that's wild so there's the album cover and there is that brick fireplace it's still back there yeah might as well show the front there and we're gonna go just a couple blocks away to the next spot also Scott is not between Gary and Gary Indiana on the weekends he was back in Gary but he was here in Detroit for five days a week Jesse Jackson Five and that's cool as I was just saying to you there's a ton of celebrities here but I'm gonna take you to probably the biggest name here to the Woodlawn Chapel we're going up into the chapel we are going into the mausoleum yeah and second so this is just a notice the last name Franklin let's go around the corner there she is the queen of soul oh wow wow who's gonna be next to her do you know I would imagine maybe one of us she's one of her children wow not sure I thought I believe the Reverend see so frankly that we just saw it's her brother right here see offering 84. that's her father that was five years ago yeah the field was broadcast live from in this was Barry Gordon's man Barry Gordy's Mansion after he became famous this is what he bought this is all attached property where the dogs are where the dogs are legendary house for the parties that existed now look at that little house right there see it to the left yes that's a pool house do you know what famous band auditioned for Barry Gordy right in there oh The Supremes plus sort of clothes we've talked about this gentleman a couple of times today Michael Jackson The Jackson Five that's where they auditioned in there in that in that building all right just talk to the owner who is very very very kind gave us all kind of information very friendly owner so there's a bowling alley in the pool house underneath the pool in the pool house or the pool still in there it's not filled with water and it's been covered up by the previous owner right put like a wooden floor over it but he wants to like remodel it and bring the pool back at some point and put a glass floor over it he was like the nicest guy ever just walked out and and he talked to us for like 20 minutes I mean this is Detroit man people are really friendly to talk they love their City that's what I love about it I mean you don't get that very often yeah this is definitely not Boone definitely not Boone Colorado says he also has photos when Michael returned later in life of Michael in there so he's like a little stand where Michael Jackson stood inside the pool house it's pretty neat and the amount he said he paid for this property was way less than I thought it would be wow I guess the prices of houses in Detroit considerably less than LA or Orlando so right here is the Motown Museum Motown USA they got something going on at the moment take a look there it is they got the historical placard on and everything next spot racus face Hannibal check out this bridge over here very unique looking Bridge and you got these houses over here it's closed down houses this is all wait and see University all around us so many so when Motown was full the studio was full they came here what's going on my Marvin Gaye recorded he recorded it in here Red Hot Chili Peppers really it was open for tours up until a few years ago Chili Peppers yeah Chili Peppers Johnny Ray Dizzy Gillespie Alberta Adams is there more on the other side all right I'm gonna go off memory here and I might be completely incorrect on this guy okay because you're not here's a train going by down there too and a Truck bus yeah True Romance right I'm not sure about that is this the True Romance spot I don't think so this is the first four plants I know but there's a scene in True Romance where he's coming out with his dog in Detroit I think it's this no really maybe not okay what tell me we'll find we're gonna find that spot though yeah because I thought there was only two scenes from True Romance in Detroit there's more than that really oh yeah another one two okay well this is the first four plants the Model T right here the Model T was created here yeah look at this this reminded me though okay all right come back to that later of course Henry Ford did not invent the automobile he did not invent the uh assembly line for the cars to go through but he perfected them he was a perfectionist yeah he made them it's where the movie assembly line was implemented right here in this building yeah it had already been invented but he was incredible all right we're gonna try to go over that True Romance spot but in Eight Mile where the food truck was right here right probably in this general area and this is where the the rap battle took place that kind of look looking that way a what sorry screenshot while you're looking see that's what it looked like it's called new Detroit stamping that sign is gone but the orange doors are now gray right over there it says MFG day okay heading towards the Packard plant now I'm gonna try to find that one true um True Romance but I don't know how accessible all right so the angle that you're seeing kind of go he closes the gate he's got his dog with him he tells the dog to get in the car you don't really see the water tower but you can definitely tell that this is the the angle there and the giveaway is this angle which they show one wide let's talk about True Romance s Hopper characters he walks across so I'm gonna walk in like this and there's going to be a giveaway with the concrete pylons over here if they go at a certain angle then we're not going to be able to get up into the plant but you can see that little a little fire on a fire extinguisher but the fire fire plug fire hydrant and then you kind of see that angle like that so this is what it looked like yeah right there that's the spot still has the little concrete pylons and everything does it have the uh it has even the little fire hose things right there that are so you got this door here which was like wooden doors there's still some partial remnants of it and then you got some little security on side over there and there's the spot right there where Dennis Hopper closed the gate put his dog in the car what was that noise but you'll notice next to the car how the concrete pylon like angles down those angles are still there right there see how it kind of angles down at an angle like that that's it pretty dang cool anyway side note I saw the other spot and it reminded me of True Romance so I wanted to see the real spot oh Jimmy Hoffa this is the building you worked out of really it's just 299 yeah there's a big picture Jimmy Hoffa stomping ground was Detroit yes all of us he's got a few houses here he grew up here he had a house up by an Osborne or Lake Osborne uh somewhere Orion I'm sorry if I'm getting the wrong correct me in the comments I've done this this is where he worked is he up there yeah look at him right there there he is they uh you have him on the wall Elvis and Jimmy Hoffa have left the building but yeah the Irishman the movie the house the house is not 20 minutes from here the house where they say it actually went down this says half a hall yeah We're not gonna go by the train station over here not accessible to public though right no it's closed right now Ford bought it uh and they're repurposing it and even the street is now blocked off wow can't even get up there yeah uh the the you it was completely different the entryway was down the middle D12 Eminem film the video going up to him Eminem also feeling beautiful in front and Batman vs Superman was filming this side as well you zoom in you see that blue Bridge the blue Bridge way off over there yeah that's the Ambassador Bridge that leads to Canada one of the busiest borders border crossing for American Canada really so I go across that bridge right on the other side of your house yes I live well I actually live in the guard gate you live in the gate yeah and like a little guard house you love me back out of the car again look at these like Xanadu home of the future the geodesic sphere homes geodesic dome homes yeah built from a kit and they were inhabited for a long time and they were for sale but you know what's also very interesting about this location Adam if you like a little band called The White Stripes Allen Adams yeah yeah you like The White Stripes you do Jack White's brother built these what yes how crazy is that Jack White's brother builty built these two geodesic dome homes fellow Detroit Local Legend Detroit's favorite Sun second favorite second favorite son Jack White his brother built both of these is it nuts wow how'd you know that yeah stuff that's in here there's stuff that's in here and there's a lot of stuff that's not but there's some stuff in here any photos of Jack White in front of these I know there are a couple Jack white spots around here white stripe spots we're gonna go to some more uh well at least two more with one eye on the other side I don't know if let's go get a hotel room the hotel for sure that's all third man is probably already closed yeah they've been going all day that's what she said that's the second time you use that joke today and it works every 60 of the time it works every time such an odd property that's cool all right we have arrived the Hotel Yorba of course know this song Heard it a ton of times from The White Stripes oh yeah there is uh Jack and mag out front cool maybe that was Jack that was just honking at us that just drove off possibly people think the video was recorded in this hotel all of it was recorded on the outside only because they were banned for filming aside because they got caught and it said it says online that is Room 286 where they did the live single version that's wrong it's actually room 206 and they recorded this so the album version is different from the single version you ever been in there yes there's another iconic photo there mag and Jack pretty dang awesome my really good friend Daphne she is probably the biggest Jack White fan that I know moving around in the car listening to the White Stripes and this song it's pretty cool to be standing here honestly they got the old neon there then you got the sign above it and then also etched in the side of the old hotel says Hotel Yorba so it's the name very prominent and also above the door frame this antique wooden door frame there so you just got the name written everywhere here even right there etched in the side of the building I don't know if this is an actual Hotel anymore all right I just asked he said there are no rooms available we're going to try to see room 206 they said no rooms available so wild [Music] so room 206 should be on the second floor so it was one of these that they were recorded the live version yeah which is the actual version here and the rest of the video is on Bell Island where we were oh the island where the boat was yeah that's where the four scenes are and the cathedral that he gets buried in we'll get married in a cathedral by the lake yeah that's actually Jack White's Cathedral as a kid that's his his church all right so a little shout out to the Daphne show on YouTube she was messaging me and letting me know there's some more on the corner however there is a big event happening at three theater and everything and parking down here is 60 dollars just to park all right we found some parking for 15 about three quarters of a mile away from Mom's spaghetti listen you can hear the birds up here are they bats are they bats still might be bats oh man I'm out now they're Birds they're pigeons are they bats they're bats look at middle of the heart a fort or a devil dagger all right we have got it we have got our pasta we're gonna enter here for limited bombs spaghetti seeding inside thank you so much all right so inside mom's spaghetti kind of a neat little setup two stories that they had so you could either on the first floor you eat on the second floor the second floor overlooks the base Detroit baseball stadium out the window and I have to say the amount of food we did order extra meatballs we ordered the meatball spaghetti and then an extra bread and also extra meatballs and definitely a lot of food and not only is there food but there's also a gift shop called the trailer which looks just like a trailer from eight mile and then you go through it there's like all kind of different merchandise and there's also even some screen used props for some of Eminem's music videos inside mom's spaghetti I can now say I had another win in row moment but I'm not in Rome I'm in Detroit mom's spaghetti pretty full day here in Detroit on tape gave me The Grand Tour what'd you call it the greatest hits tour the greatest hits tour we're gonna do volume two at some point we are one of these days yeah it takes a lot
