blink of bright red and green as the shoppers rush home with their treasures hear the snow crunch see the kids punch this is santa's big scene and above all the bustle [Music] what do they hear now around the throne oh but if we do lord if it's all right with you and i want to hear the angels sing the song they say that night i want to meet the angels [Music] maybe gabriel will tell us how they practiced through space and gave a concert for the shepherds who were frightened and amazed let me get my feel of how it was out on that hill and i want to hear the angels sing the song they sing that back at first baptist columbia thank you so much for this invitation steve and the pastor wes thank you so much for allowing our family to be here with you we've not done a lot of concerts this year to say the least march the 14th we finished down in eastern carolina came home and from there to july everything just postponed or canceled we had a few things out in texas and it's just been a little bit here than here and there but we're honored to be with you and thank you uh for coming tonight how many are are from columbia let me see your hands okay gamecocks gonna divide the crowd really quick right here clemson okay all right i was watching that game a little bit last night but uh we won't we won't go there um our family we're from um near greensboro north carolina so most of us are our tar heels [Laughter] okay again how many maybe let me ask this question how many you've never never seen the hoppers before you've never seen the hoppers before okay 27 of you thank you so much uh for coming tonight we know we have folks from burlington north carolina here we have folks from sumter north south carolina and folks from all over and we we appreciate you being here uh i want to say a special thanks to the the the young lady down here that's doing the sign language uh for her ministry and keeping up with that last song there was a lot of words there and she just did a fabulous job over there i don't know if you noticed her or not but it was wonderful awesome let me let me tell you who we are we're all hoppers standing here before you this is my wife of 32 years just recently uh just about three weeks ago we celebrated and we spent our anniversary at home very unusual usually on the road but uh kim joined our family 33 years ago 30 31 years ago we got married 32 years ago uh it seems like longer than that no i'm just kidding what a wonderful singer and god has truly used this young lady would you welcome my wife kim hopper this is kim this is our oldest daughter she is 26 now single saved and satisfied and she is uh an english major at the university of north carolina great singer you'll love her songs tonight how about miss carly hopper carly j okay we have a younger daughter that is 15 now she came nine and a half months premature nine and a half weeks nine half weeks premature and i said where's your younger sister she said she's out wait waiting on ubereats to bring her something to eat so anyway her name is lexus uh my uncle over there no i'm sorry the young man there on the end is my younger brother he has been for as long as i can remember he's single saved and said in his ways i'll just tell you that how about it for michael hopper would you welcome michael [Applause] and then our our parents started this 63 years ago that's how long this ministry's been going for 63 years they've been married 59 and a half of those years my mom and dad would you welcome connie and claude hopper back to first baptist thank you so much [Music] [Music] rescue me from [Music] death [Music] [Music] praise he he is [Music] [Music] he will do tears so sweet just to know i have jesus with me he will keep me from sin and from smiles you folks are so nice and we want to say thank you for taking time to come this evening and support the pastor and the church and our family and i hope our songs will bless you to encourage you to lift you up it's a joy it really is just to get out of the house just to come down to columbia south carolina yesterday we went to visit some people in inman south carolina and the man that contracted us to come and be a surprise for his wife his wife was uh she uh she got dementia about six months ago and he came came to inward south carolina to retire he sold his 17 franchise out in denver colorado springs and he thought he'd come there and retire and his wife six months ago got to mention that she was i'm telling as we saw she just lit up like a light bulb and then we thought well we started another couple we knew in uh some to south carolina we thought we'd just go over them we carried them lunch and uh with some dinner i'm sorry and uh he he had support he had promoted gospel music for over 20 years and probably spent over a half a million dollars bringing gospel music to that particular area and sumpter south carolina and then we um we're here tonight as a joy and the pastor he's so encouraging as i get older people encourage me he said to me a while ago how old are you i said i'm pushing 80. he said look like to me you're dragging it and words of encouragement everywhere i go i called my doctor a week ago i said look i'm ready for my checkup he said oh we had to postpone your appointment until next year i said i may die before then they said if you do have your wife call and cancel this apartment and we i have spent more time at home in the last few months than i have been over 50 years and my wife she got a little tested with me you know when you can't go out we're together and uh she just began to tell me things i need to be doing and and uh it kind of upset me i said honey i do in a book book of proverbs just says it's better to for a man to live on the roof rooftop of a house that's inside with a nagging woman [Applause] she said well get on up there there so i spent a lot of time we live on a farm in uh new madison north carolina uh god blessed us with a little a few acres there and i have cattle and i like to get out on the farm and and god's been so good to me i'm from a family of 11 and i was born and raised in a log cabin and this is a true story now and there's the old cabin there it says there on the farm with 11 kids born in that one room not the same night but we was all born in that one room my mom used to get us up on sunday morning and walk us to church and we'd walk three miles i'm telling you the truth now and we go to bible school it's sunday school and and we look forward to getting off of the farm we really did and um as a teenager i accepted jesus christ as my personal savior he changed my life then in 1956 i went to my first gospel concert and heard the group called the spear family and i tell you after they saw him that changed my life again i went back home and got my brothers together and i played a guitar and i was good i really i was good and one day my younger brother said hey we need to get a piano player and i remember this girl in high school i wasn't interested in girls in high school but uh i do remember her that she played basketball and she played piano and she's real good and she came through town at madison one day and i was delivering groceries for the a p and uh connie she stopped at the stoplight and i walked out there and tapped on the window she wrote it down i said my brothers and i have started a gospel group would you be interested in coming and playing the pianos and she said i'll have to think about it and the light turned green she said i'll do it so she started she was our first piano player and she did a great job and um you know she said to me not long ago said uh well i've been home and all i do is eat and um and she said you're picking up a little weight and i said well i'm sorry but so i it bothered me so i went downtown madison they have a machine there you put a quarter in there and he'll tell you how much you weigh so i went down and put a quarter in there and they said come back two hours by yourself and uh so i wouldn't join the gym and uh i'm telling you i've never seen something there's changed in my life and everybody exercising i think the whole world is exercising and they had treadmills there they had boats there were oars on them and uh finally director came up to me said mr hopper what kind of machines are you looking for i said i'm looking for shoes or take a few pounds off of me that i could be more attractive to the ladies he said oh you'll find that machine out front it's called the atm machine [Music] there's nothing like the raptors ringing when happy hearts are singing joy to the world the lord has come there's something about the voices swelling with gospel news they're telling jesus [Music] why don't we see it again [Music] angels from realms of glory [Music] came and found it great [Music] [Music] why don't we sing it again [Music] [Applause] [Music] earth [Music] why don't we sing it again [Music] why don't we sing it again why don't we sing that's a new one right there that's a new song we've been trying to do a a new christmas album for 20 years for a few years yeah um and so we've been trying to we uh have tv crew come over from nashville this week that's right and they did uh a whole hour and a half of christmas songs it's gonna be on pay-per-view uh before christmas the week of uh i think it's december the 22nd that's what we heard today and you all hear all the good christmas songs with our family right for miles we did that right at mom and dad's home and uh down at the farm so it's just a down-home christmas story with our with our family so remember that uh december 22nd and the song we just got drew singing was written um recently by a couple of great writers in nashville sent that over to us and we're trying to uh put together a new christmas project and so tonight we were close enough to call one of our close friends uh he plays down at the carolina opry and he's in the one of the uh he's in the band plays keyboard and trumpet he sings back up and he came over to help us out a little bit on the sound but i want him to come up right now and play a song for you guys is that okay i want to i want to uh yeah come on up here brother [Applause] andy is a long time friend you should travel with us plate also played keyboard for the stamps that backed up elvis in the day you look mighty young though for that this guy is an incredible musician but more than that he's a great cook he's a great eater too he said graduated from carolina in a music with a watching a lot of uh hopper videos in you every single day my mom will be downstairs working on a computer and i sit up there all day every day and just sing my heart out i think he said he's he's spent about or watched about 8 000 hours of hoppers you bought sick of us right no way i own spotify actually i was the i listen to y'all more than anybody else on spotify in the world it said the top 0.01 of listeners that's commitment that's jasper thank you buddy hey what you gonna do what mike you mind if we get a picture real fast i mean this is a record setting here 8 000 hours you got a smile back there all right sure okay is it oh this is totally off the cuff here steve and pastor he's got not planned wow thank you jasper hey jasper you know they have gift cards i mean for the guys here we like uh longhorn waffle house okay all right thank you jasper i appreciate that so much that was so nice of you preacher said after that song you'll never be back but anyway no we appreciate being here tonight we really do and uh you know what it's claude told you right that i was driving going through madison out of the town of madison and the year that i graduated 1958 i was five years old he asked me if i'd be interested in playing piano for him and his brothers and i said i would and i never knew what god had in store i never knew what god had in store but i could never thank him enough for what i've seen in all these 60 years what he's done in my life and what i've seen him doing in other people's lives and when we were doing jerusalem while ago i thought of something that i shared a little earlier that i believe the first year that i ever went to israel was 1976 and things were not as up-to-date back then as they are today it was like stepping back in time and i would just ride on that bus and i would look out and i would see things and i would weep because i'd read it in the bible but i'll remember one thing near bethlehem there was a shepherd in a field i mean he wasn't he wasn't there for anything for us but he had his sheep and there were about 12 to 15 sheep following him and they were in a straight line one right behind the other following that shepherd and i thought about the shepherds and i studied years ago and this pastor may have shared something but they were the considered to be the lowliest people in israel they were thought less of than anybody and i don't know it was because they were out there with a dirty sheep or whatever but but just think about it who did the angels give the announcement to about jesus birth he came to the shepherds out in the field and they said hey we're going to go and we're going to see what they have told us and they left and they went and found mary and joseph and the babe lying in a manger and they went away and told everybody else about it when he picked the apostles he didn't go and get all of the elite and all of the whale and there's nothing wrong with that don't misunderstand me but he went out and he got those fishermen you know what he doesn't call always call the qualified but when he calls somebody someone he will qualify them and i've seen so many things over these past 60 years that i could share tonight i've seen how god can touch a person change a person's life and this year has been it's been quite a different year hasn't it um my mom and dad came through the depression i had an uncle that had that spanish flu in 19 and 18 and 19 and my dad and my grandfather went up to where he was working out right near norfolk virginia and in an ammunition plant then he was sick they had gotten in touch with my grandparents and they had already moved him into a side room where they were taking the corpses out and uh my dad and my grandfather went there and uncle leslie came home at some point he lived to be 92 years old what i'm saying is tonight whatever is going on in your life and my life and what is going on in this country god already knows about it he knows about it before it happens and it takes me it takes a long time it did me and i don't know about you to be able to say okay god this is in your hands i give it up i'm gonna give it to you that's what this song is talking about god already knows tonight before he promised him a child i've looked at abraham and smiled [Music] his life a day god [Music] already knew trust the heart of jesus the sun will not break through [Music] and when taken by surprise know that god already knew god already knew [Music] before he heard his sisters cry god knew that lazarus would rise god already knew and before he healed that crippled man god knew that he would walk again [Music] already before my heart was made to break i knew that he would make a way [Music] god sees it [Music] trust the heart of jesus when the sun will not break through and when taken by surprise for the god already knew [Music] god already [Music] already [Music] he said i am certain in my heart and in my mind i will pass every year called the national quartet convention in pigeon forge tennessee all right some of you been there we've uh usually is about 10 000 people there a night during the course of a week this year we had a reduced version because of the restrictions so we had about 2 000 folks anyway we have a souvenir book we put in there also i know a lot of you are wearing masks some of you are not but we have the hopper mask it says the hoppers we are america and that's one of the songs we put out this summer over the 4th of july and one size please secure yours before assisting others yes thank you gonna tell you proceeds of this goes to our foundation the purpose of our foundations to help young people pursue their career in christian music christian studies and business and economics in every university of college we give to they match our funds and we just uh gave five scholarships away in september and if you get this it'll go to our foundation i have my own candidates called the clod america and it's an it's a wonderful wonderful song uh all inclusive and i know that so many we've had so much this year and now but we are still americans and we're in the greatest country in the world okay i just think that we have this of different sizes back there we also have another new shirt it just simply says let it be on there my grandmother used to come in and uh get on mike and i for uh tearing up the house and she would say hey guys you calm down just let it be so we put it on a shirt we've got those in different sizes out there as well so come by and visit with us on the way out and we would love to uh meet you and talk with you and we'll be out there we act like we've not been out much we haven't and we haven't that's true the song let it or the words and the song let it be i think in our country right now sometimes we need to say to people just let it be god knows what he's doing he'll take care of it all we'll just let it be the song we did just a few months ago was written by phil cross who is a wonderful songwriter in gospel music written great things through the years for a lot of artists and we went to him recently and said we we need a new christmas song and he said how how quickly do you need it and we said tomorrow and that was the truth and he's the kind of writer that said i'll pray about it and we'll see i'll see if the lord gives me anything and i'm a real visual person and and i've always said that if you tied my hands behind my back i couldn't sing a note because i talk with my hands so that you you get what i'm saying and i sing that way as well and this song i think has a visual aspect to that and that's why i love it so much have you ever thought about what the wise men must have said when they looked at baby jesus for the first time see everything that we need is wrapped up in that little child in that baby and i can just imagine in my mind as they look down at those little hands and they said hope hope finally has hands freedom has little feet the truth will stand and the word can speak the holy and the lowly they can finally embrace because love now has a heartbeat and grace has a sweet little face that's what this song says listen to this i hope it speaks to you the way it does in search of a child they traveled so far [Music] they were led by a star to that place of joy now the wise men tell a beautiful story describing the glory [Music] has [Music] [Music] and [Music] has [Music] embraces compassion has a tear and now joy has a laughter so here ever [Music] [Music] has [Music] is [Music] the word [Music] he will finally embrace has a heartbeat [Music] and grace [Music] [Applause] is for love now has a heart and grace [Music] [Applause] beautiful [Music] something's happening in bed [Music] is that a baby crying there's excitement in the wind he was born in bethlehem shepherds declared that angels announced his birth now that caused disturb of the people you know what do you remember it i'm listening to all these songs i have forgotten this part that i wrote to go in this song pilots hall there's a mob outside of pilots hall something's happening in pilots hall on the porch pile of pleats [Music] in this man called jesus i can find no fault but something happening from pilas hall we watched as he's beaten this figured body fell beneath the load of the cross his mother came to him and the soldiers pushed her away i heard the hammer fall i knew the nails were driven and he was on the cross the scoppers kept chanting i heard him speak words of forgiveness there was an earthquake and a darkness over the earth and that cry from the cross it is finished we watched him die but i know this is not over something happening i chose this foreign [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] is [Applause] [Music] [Applause] away deep inside [Applause] is [Applause] play ah praise the lord praise the lord wow aren't you glad he's alive we have something to celebrate there's something positive in the air and his name is jesus christ and what he's done for us in our life my mom has gone through two bouts of cancer the doc said many years ago we're not sure how this is going to turn out we see how it's turned out she's still here she's doing great and singing tonight thank the lord for his goodness we've all been through different things my youngest i was kidding about my daughter a while ago and she is she has a precious heart but we came off the road in in march the 14th four days later we had to take her to the hospital and she had hit the wall and she's had an anxiety and depression a lot of her life and uh the doc said that night he said if you could leave her with us for the next few days i think we can help her and at least you know things are worse they seem worse at night and at 11 o'clock that night it was tough to walk out of that building and leave that little girl back here and she was crying dad don't don't leave me don't go but she knew she needed to get the help and this was a christian doctor a gentleman that just spirits bore witness and the next day i went to see her i was only one that could go in to see her i went back there and she was so anxious to see me and she was until dad can i can i go home i said are you doing okay yes dad but can i go home are they treating you good yes dad but can i go home i said honey you know you you need to stay she said i said but you know what tonight i'm gonna come back here at ten o'clock and i'm gonna park right on the other side of this wall in that parking lot and i'll sleep there tonight and i'll just be right over there she said you'll do that for me dad i said i sure will baby and um ten o'clock that next night or actually about nine i looked at kim and i told her what i what i had promised to do and she said i'm going with you and so we got over there into the parking lot brother and we ju we prayed within 20 seconds just a few words i felt the most incredible peace come over our lives over my heart i felt like we had done what we were supposed to do we finished that prayer and i said and somebody had given me a little vial of annoying oil and i'm a baptist now the only thing we used all for was on the tractor generator things around the farm there but i said i'm going right under i'm going to anoint the building i'm going to do what i feel like the lord wants me to do and i got over there and the attendant got up and came out and said uh sir can i help you with something what do you do i said is dr spencer here so he is here tonight i said would you get him for me he went she went back and brought him out he came out there said mr hopper what are you doing i said i'm anointing this building i told you he was a believer he said can i help you and for the next 30 minutes we anointed the the walls the seats and the waiting room the doors to go back in the back area there all the doors and the doctors and the nurses looking at us wasn't sure what we were all about but we prayed at every stop and i felt like we'd done what we needed to do we went home got back home about 11 30 and i told my wife kim i said i'm going to anoint every door and every window and everything in this house and i went to the attic to the basement and did all of that and at the very end i opened the front door and i opened the back door and i kicked the devil out of my house he likes to get in and work any way he can get into your family and break it down if it's mental if it's physical if it's financial he'll break it down and try to break you apart but the night he's been defeated he's been defeated by jesus christ that hung up on the cross we we love him five days later that young lady walked out of there with big smiles ready to go home but she was so much better now she still has some tough days some some tough nights they gave her some great tools to work through those times and god has gifted these professionals to do that god is the ultimate healer and he can do anything he wants to do just like that at a moment's notice but i'm so thankful for the joy that he put in my daughter's heart she's saved she knows the lord jesus christ and our prayer tonight is that you know the lord most of all that you know lord but if you've got a need if you've got something that you've been going through maybe you have a grandchild or a child that's that's hooked on some kind of drug or there's depression god is the answer and i want to ask the pastor to come and our desire is that you know christ if you need something you need prayer we're here it's been a wonderful evening and i'm going to ask pastor west to say whatever he wants to and then pray and then i think you're going to sing a holy night to close us right or we are america which one i'm gonna do my best whichever one you want no no which one are you gonna do y'all are paying the bill so we'll let him pick y'all pray about it we're so glad that you are here i told steve when we were coming towards christmas i said you know the it's such a tough time and i just cannot imagine us coming to christmas without something musical to lift the spirits and uh there's just nothing like it so i'm so thankful that he called dean he said i'm gonna call dean and see if they'll be able to come and i'm so glad that you did and what a blessing to be able to have you here and i i just i pray that you'll carry away from here just even that last concluding message you know that it's not just something happening in bethlehem it's what happened at the garden tomb jesus is alive and that's why we have hope for today and hope for tomorrow so i'm going to say a prayer and i i really am thankful that y'all came and i'm thankful that you did and i trust that you'll be safe as you leave from here um after the concert concludes i would invite you though please stop by in the foyer they've come up with a safe way for you all to be able to pick up some of the materials there to be able to support this incredible ministry and i know that you're going to want to do that but let me pray for us now heavenly father what a great blessing it is for us to be able to be together i think as they mentioned earlier in the concert that sometimes you learn to be thankful that we can just go out that we can just be together that we can just worship the lord god in freedom and we're so thankful for that god we're particularly mindful at this time of year that god you did not leave us on our own lord that you sent a rescue or you gave us jesus and we are so thankful for the lord jesus christ we're so thankful for his birth but most of all we're thankful for the cross and what that means for us god we pray that you will just bless each person here father let us walk out here with that spirit of hope that spirit of peace that spirit of joy that only comes because of the power of the spirit go with each person here go with this dear family who shared
