all right you ready Frank Fritz championship Frank Fritz first place there it is are you BAM game on do it Frank is challenging you man Rob I don't know if this is the path you want to go down this is you dude please stand back show these fools how's done I [Music] was down at the warehouse right there's tons of stuff down there you and I got to bring a lot more stuff down there and then Robbie's bringing his stuff down there now I'm starting to think that Colombia is not even big enough to hold some of this stuff you realize you've said stuff nine times you said stuff nine times I just want you to expand your Lac Euler what your vernacular macular that's called vocabulary I mean you probably don't realize that you say stuff about wait a second wait a second okay it was all this stemming from you just learned a new word govern ocular hey Dani D what's up hey boys how's Detroit treating you oh yeah what's that do you think I say stuff too much well you know we're in the business of stuff honey so we spent a lot of time talking about stuff Robin his family who actually started the beacon light company in the 1930 what do you mean light like what kind of lights you know a big Hollywood premiere how they would have those big spotlights out front oh you talk like a big searchlight exactly a searchlight Wow yeah he's got a warehouse full of them so that's all he's got out of those big search right no that's not all he's got Rob and his father and his grandfather all collectors so there's a house packed with history okay electronics video games robots I mean he's actually got a whole entire arcade room Frank's mr. video I played some video games I've been to a couple arcades in my life all right boys be safe yeah Frogger [Music] all right it's the place right here that is what's that sign check it says Detroit illuminating service cuz it yeah he said pull back in the back all right hey Robert hey I'm Mike this is Frank good to see you Frank Frank have a list we know you got tons of lighting and stuff like that but we buy a little bit of everything well I have a little bit of everything actually we got a lot of everything dude I know I was looking around here right when I walked in i saw these off to the left so Danny said that your family was in this business specifically yeah actually it's something that my grandfather started he was one of the first people to do searchlight advertising as an industry the original business was searchlights in searchlight advertising something my grandfather helped start in the early 30s out in California LA okay cuz I've seen like um you know like old black-and-white footage of like movie premieres and stuff in Los Angeles and they got the big searchlights out front they did a lot of the movie premieres he didn't work with the movie companies and when he did it they really put on a show this huge promotion they would dress up to the hilt and make it a really big event when you think about these spotlights they represent a part of history Hollywood premieres awards shows even if you didn't know what was happening he knew something was happening by the lights what year are these from then these are all 1942 Sperry 1680 aircraft searchlights after world war ii they really wanted to pick it up a notch they were looking at some of these any aircraft searchlights they were coming up on surplus sales so these were all meant for world war ii coastal defense they thought the Japanese were attacking the coast and they lit up the whole okay so these were on the shore on the west coast and they were just lighting at all in case America was attacked by plane so after the war things changed for his grandfather and their business because there was a lot of military surplus so that meant bigger units for them once they had that the business really took off they started in California and they bounced between California and Michigan they finally decided to settle in Michigan why did he see a market here for it one of the big draws with with the automotive companies the auto shows and one of the things when father said like when they brought the searchlights to Michigan within 15 minutes they had their first job the stars in Southern California were movie stars but the stars in Detroit were the new Cadillacs the new Chevy's the new Fords he had taken in industry in Southern California and made it work in Detroit which is pretty awesome so what's the power plant for the generator it has a Hercules 600 JC engine power and a DC generator back in the day when they had the auto shows yeah they'd have over 30 these out a night I think my dad said the most it was 33 units I can't even imagine what it would be like to have 33 of these lights on the street in Detroit and one night punching holes in the sky it would look like War of the Worlds or something Oh what happened to this one this is the actual stunt double it was using the Batman vs Superman movie oh this was a prop for the movie this was the actual prop a movie the production company they were looking for a light for their shoot so they actually used two of them to movie one was actual production one and in the stunt double so this light when you guys I guess solo to him or rented it to him wasn't a nice shape it was looked a little better than this apparently Batman and Superman weren't getting along in that movie and they took it out on the poor light 15 years ago I got involved in a shop here the roof was a mess it was leaking there wasn't really much roof on the building really you got that bad it was pretty bad my dad came up to me he's like well the city wants us to do some work in a shop it was a considerable expense to do that but in the end it's been a very fulfilling because I was able to save a lot of equipment now I can see all the new panels on the roof yeah Rob is smart he understood in order for him to rescue and save a lot of these parts and pieces he had to preserve the building if the roof is gone forget about it you're done you know I played a big part in preserving the building and the structure itself but now I'm trying to preserve the legacy of the family I'm looking around here and you guys did a great job of cleaning the place up I mean where were those lights stored them they were in here it was somewhat sheltered where those lights were oh thank goodness those were somewhere that was dry I really look at them as historical artifacts now I think it's important to preserve that so this place in its heyday it was pretty amazing my dad actually had a machine shop here the lathe we would make parts people you're making your own parts for these they did make their own parts if you can't buy it you have to make so you guys know this is a power plant for lice right here okay so the searchlight themselves this is a carbon arc searchlight and if you're familiar with arc welding how these electrodes you I can show you they got a couple of rods right here this is what makes the light work so you can't look at it because I mean arc welding you can't but you wouldn't want to look to look at this thing no way if you were here foot like 15 minutes you get a nice suntan seriously really so if they're really powerful so this goes in there when it's in there that will constantly spend the whole time so it gets a nice even burn it shines light on this thermostat and then it actually kicks it forward automatically so how do you like these guys want to get in there how do you how do you get in there you gotta crawl in through the bottom and see if I can get in here this is the first time I've ever seen one of these spotlights in person they are way more massive than I thought they'd be wow this is cool and then here's the magnifying glass right here Frank can you see it when you're in there with the big reflector and the burner it really clicks in how bright this must be so Rob what's the value of one of these the NOS sets like this the light generator spare-parts applies it going they've been about thirty five thousand thirty five thousand yeah I mean we're in the business of buying and selling stuff yeah so I can't even imagine what the market is like for something like this when you look at a searchlight that's this massive you think to yourself who would buy this now what kind of use would it have who would use these parts so if you actually sold any of these I'm still about five of these some are going museums and some of them are actually being used is alive living exhibit at the museum's as far as I know these are probably the last five nos lights on the planet right now I bet that's really cool it wouldn't make sense for us to buy one of these I'd see what else we get rob is the main distributor for these things now he's got the parts the client base he's the go-to guy what's that right there yeah these are the the valve cover gaskets for that hercules jxt engine here we go here we go it's like a big treasure hunt so Frank are you buying this won't you open it guys see what you know it's been a therapeutic going through all the stuff I've more than made peace with my parents passing there you go let's see what's in there you know every once in a while you'll find something really really interesting or different or unexpected in a lot of times its parts that I never thought we had look like go valve cover gaskets that somebody's desperately needed and I can calm okay guess what I found I found that part you want it makes me so happy the great thing about having all these parts is you know I'm like the last person to have these things so I'm the one that's able to help all these people keep their searchlights running sure through the restorations and keep the lights burning we look at today's society a lot of it is disposable those searchlights are ultimately American historical artifacts with a search list we've got an awful lot of parts it wouldn't feel right just a starting or a song about I couldn't do it whoa Frank do you even know what's behind or in front I'm still digging Wow so all of these crates were new old stock parts at one time yeah all of them but the weather just disintegrated them yeah she's too bad this isn't motorcycle parts have you had any of the searchlight guys here like digging through here because this would be like a treasure trove to them when they come here they don't want to leave a lot of people in Rob's position would have walked in and just scrapped everything but rob was willing to take a chance to see if there wasn't market and now he is the market if you need anything in everything for a searchlight he's got you Frank check this out what see these look like these are castings that they made for a part for part just to make like a film canister my parents in editions of searchlights they're in a movie making home movies and films and things like that they were used to fabricating things they couldn't get part so they're running out they'd make things so you're thinking that this was something to cast or to make a film canister yeah that's probably the plug for the center of it and then that would be the outside would you sell this yeah I part with that a hundred dollars we're gonna do it sounds fair alright I appreciate it this piece is part of the process of making a film canister and what's interesting to me is that it's here in this warehouse with all the spotlights because when you look at the spotlights you think film premiere movies Hollywood stars you know so I don't know to me that's interesting maybe I'm reaching but I think it's cool oh here you go how about these shades we just sell the shades alright so sage you got we're three there yeah three there here's a smaller one any time I see these green porcelain barn shades I buy them there's no light sockets other than this one these are very simple they're industrial they were originally designed for barn use some of them have some damage you know like that one the porcelains decent there's one scratch or a couple of them with big gouges with rust on them hundred bucks from how about hundred twenty bucks doing it people are using these for interior lights it's a hot look to the point where they're reproducing the heck out of these things Frank you grab those but there's still plenty of people that want the real deal alright yeah anything else I got a bunch of stuff my parents house if you got time to go check it out I'm gonna hell yeah okay I'll close up shop we'll go come on guys we'll check out what's in the house all right let's check out the basement first well you are packed up down here Oh Frank he's a train collector my dad was a big-time Oh your dad was yeah I grew up around him I can appreciate him but it was really his thing he enjoyed the model trains when he was younger he was gonna always build his big layout is there some good ones Frankie come on the engines could be worth some money so could you touch him not these when I found his train and started playing with it he's like I don't believe that train that's his old original train the blue one you're looking at there is the blue cop yeah that's a heavy hitter as far as I can tell it's the original paint it's not but it hasn't been restored there's actually a little crack on the outside you can see it's split right there Oh it'd be like okay so something must end oh that one maybe it's a rare train retail 15 to 2 grand if it was mint what would you feel comfortable selling it for with this stuff going on as a sense I really need about thousand 1,200 yeah I can't do that everything changed years once we walk in a house well my dad collected coins like stamps collective trains collect electronic equipment it's really wherever his interest kind of went this is cool are you this Frank product of Scotland but says blended Scotch whisky and then it says specially reserved and bottled solely for the Brown Derby in Hollywood when people think of the Brown Derby the first thing that comes to mind is celebrity hangout it was right in the heart of Los Angeles on Wilshire Boulevard across from the Ambassador Hotel nuts from the Brown Derby to its most distinctive characteristic was its shape a brown derby programmatic whimsical mimetic architecture whatever you want to call it basically these buildings were designed to catch the eye of passing motorists so there was a lot of programmatic architecture in Los Angeles so who would have went to the Brown Derby who had a relationship with them either my grandfather grandmother both they were back and forth between LA and Detroit quite a bit my grandfather he did a light job for him he was always getting in acquiring interesting things like that the jug is interesting to me because it has the brown derby connection to it this was a constant there when you walked into the Brown Derby this is what you saw behind a bar this is the original piece I mean this wasn't a souvenir that they sold but I'm sure this probably was a lot of people in the states that collect pottery they don't want anything that's European they want American stuff you know they can tell by the glaze I can tell by the type of clay and then anything with advertising obviously speaks for itself too you know imagine Golden Age of Hollywood driving down Wilshire Boulevard and seeing a building shaped as a Brown Derby and then when you walk inside it's a place to be all the celebrities the energy the excitement this jug to me represents all of that would you sell these two things I mean would you consider that or no yeah I think we part with those I'd do 300 the way I'm balancing that out is 250 for that one and 50 for that I think that's a pretty common piece but I think that is gonna be something that you're gonna be hard-pressed to find another one anytime soon so I think you're probably light what are you thinking on that I'd asked like 400 for the pair how about 375 I'd really to get for it I got I got three kids to put through college and I guess I'm part of that textbooks what about what about the boat what's the deal with the boat my mom and dad won that it's some event this is a huge model of a double cockpit runabout and it was from like the late forties early fifties yeah wooden handmade and done very well you can tell it had a rear windshield and see how this is chipped off of there and then this one had a front windshield and you can see there's a little Ridge in here where it was and this one's gone yeah but I mean the craftsmanship is incredible it's awesome you can see all the little nails on the hinges I think the steering wheel actually the size is nice is this something itself we consider it I was slightly mixed on letting the boat go I always thought it was a really cool piece and well built so what are you thinking on this prong on like 650 for that I mean it does have a little bit of issues but um you know as far as like a model goes yeah this is very advanced its next level I'd do 650 on it I'm gonna do 650 thanks Rob said his parents won this and maybe the late 40s early 50s so it has some age I think it's very cool it's in great shape I love it I think there's some stuff in here you might want to check out oh yeah the topo I know a little bit about this this was made in the early 80s I Nolan Bushnell and he was the founder of Atari I think I was really surprised when Frank recognized with that topo robot it was not many people have even seen him or aware that they exist so what's it do what doesn't it do Mike really yeah this was one of the very first robots they created it series one right yes it is a cashew I'm on it again it's over the years I've actually been collecting a lot of different early person robots to preserve him the topo robot is one of the first of the and robot robots primarily was gonna be the home robot that you could use to move from room to room carry things around or in schools primarily targeted for education also for home use and it was like the biggest thing I went robot for the house a home servant to bring me things but this was the initial model that was just remote controlled either by a computer or you can modify remote control the drive when you guys are talking about bringing me something I would have to fit in here oh no they actually had a prototype on the side some Cheetos it was funny and springy beverages like a cup holder they had that need a special refrigerator to dump out beverages whenever it is explained to you so you got to realize Mike this was advanced first time it's a personal assistant it's a butler who wouldn't want this thing can I pull out yeah come on check it out this is a real sellable item Star Wars space a lot of sci-fi guys out there just have people click robots this robot it was like $7.99 when it first came out this was a hundred bucks in 83 for that I think that was more than my first car growing up I really had a love for the robotics one of the coolest things is that it came out right after the personal computer revolution and everyone thought this was gonna be the next big thing I've been kind of looking a little bit I can't keep up on the age you know mm-hmm and I see they go anywhere from eight to fifteen hundred dollars mmm Gil being in good condition is this something you would sell um I'd consider it normally I like to keep a working example to each my robots but in this case that happens to be a spare and to run across somebody else that really would appreciate it and it wants it and we know what it is I can let it go to somebody like that I love it I mean what would you have to have Lord I'd like to get like 900 for them I'd feel comfortable 800s your date right I'm at nine let's do it any 1980 guys would have done and let's for it on what space invaders holy crap oh challenging you man this guy come out in plenty of arcades alright dude let me handle this this is totally you man now it's time to show these fools how it's done nice knowing you oh look at that look at that come on Frank what is beating off his forehead I could see the little hairs on his arm are standing up say my first time is the art page I can see Rob he's over there going whoa this guy can play oh yeah oh you're miss love come now okay looks like he must have spent a few quarters right now it's 1983 I have a mullet I mean I'm tearing it up I'm tearing it up boom boom boom boom boom boom boom coming down space invaders is one of those iconic games that you just remember especially the sounds it just takes you back to the 80s smokin your Frank I know he's homing van it's gonna be great he's hitting the bombs right away thank you victory you beat me 3040 ouch okay 900 buddy I didn't quite know it I'd expect I haven't Mike and Frank stop by maybe put the blanket around it as I got to talk to him they have a real appreciation for the history in the context of all these things because otherwise they're just things but getting the story along with it is really important and they seem to appreciate that see Rob thanks see ya well right there perfect hey Mike Frank thank you appreciate ya what do you think man I think it's incredible I can't believe you guys found this he used to be a show truck whoever built this was a bad to the bone dude oh yeah here we have a 1956 trans star cab with beautiful front-end chrome beautiful fog lights we have these Casey Hayes wheels on it that are true spoke those wheels are nuts right absolutely incredible first of all you don't see a lot of student runs especially one that has been customized to this level did you look at the engine yet yeah look at the engine man give it a freak no way that's what I'm saying dude this is an early 224 Studebaker wide block truck engine damn right it is and what's incredible about it it's got a factory racing Studebaker intake manifold dude you are freaking me out I have never seen anything like this so what do you want me to do to this thing all right obviously we do not want to touch the paint we don't want to mess with dirty of Dallas the pinstripers artwork when I'm thinking mechanical rebuild on a truck like this you don't want to clean the slate but you want it to run good it's got a sound good it's got a stop good the trucks been sitting for a long time buddy we're gonna check compression make sure we don't have any sticky valves change the oil change all the lubricant whatever you say man the only thing I don't like about this truck mike is the GT steering wheel I think that needs to go we need to put a period Studebaker wheel on it how much is this thing gonna cost you're probably looking at about 12 to 1500 bucks just to get the engine running if we don't have to tear it apart that's not too bad we got four thousand six hundred fifty bucks in the truck we got like a grand for shipping you know so do the math you guys did well so I get it why Mike and Frank bought this truck but I'm the guy that's got to get it running and make the numbers work I'm gonna get into this engine we're gonna see if we have any noises and then I'll get back with you guys then we'll leave you alone to get your Studebaker on now get to work bye [Music] hey boys hey baby Dani D what's going on okay so I'm gonna send you to a guy named Rick Rick has done everything under the Sun welding fabrication car restoration but the cool part is Rick was a shop teacher I love shop we had mr. Brean he was the man yeah was the guy loves cars he loves body works so that's really what he collects so basically a lot of automotive stuff that's what he's into stuff he's got some rare old cars there I really think you guys are gonna have a heyday listen be careful cuz Rick knows how to keep kids in line don't worry we've been on high school we're growing up now we're adult males yeah I'm just saying send us the address we appreciate you you got it babe take care [Music] that's the place right here look at this building Frank seriously that's cool you know how I feel about old buildings can be on your best behavior why put you in study hall dude I don't care hello you wreck this is pretty cool is that run I'm Mike Brooks how you doing reigns Frank Frank I can see why he's standing over here well oh yeah got the heater I'm gonna give this to you right now we buy anything from motor scooters to carve imitation related items as far as the how FAR's the model chief and run it well hopefully just a few hours hopefully did you build the body yeah I built the body and thanks pretty cool man check this out all steel with a plywood floor so yeah so have you ever done anything like this before Donnie overhead valve conversion to a Model T engine no I've always wanted to to run one of these yeah me too what do you expect this thing to do will do 65 70 hoping it'll do like 90 but will it be able to stop no 90 miles an hour with mechanical brakes not me in it I like you're living on the edge rick has managed to utilize every inch of this space Mike you're walking by the real car right here this olds with the 442 yeah yeah convertible Frank looks like I got less hair in a minute convertible it's from the ground to the rafters hey Rick was this sign here when you got the building no where'd you get that at that belonged to a friend of mine in Ohio he said you want to hang that up in your garage yeah has anybody made you an offer on the sign yeah I got offered 300 for one time yeah how long ago oh my gosh that was a long time ago 10 years ago well it's worth a lot more than that the condition on this side is not that great other side has a couple is a little worse than this one is it this sign is like anything else once it's sought after and it starts to realize big numbers then they start reproducing it but this one is obviously an original uh 1,600 can you up a little bit how much is a little bit like hundred Oh a hundred bucks seventeen we get the deal John you're doing it you know when Frank and I heard you were a shop teacher we both looked at each other like alright this guy's got some stories because when we were kids I took automotive class machine shop last year I took typing why'd you take Titus that's where the chicks were like come on now I got to sit right next to Lisa Hamilton and where he's not typing that was 32 words a minute give us the stories man when I taught school I taught at a prison yeah okay nobody can believe that I taught in prison but I did Danielle said you taught school auto shop yeah oh you taught at the prison to prison at times when I was in high school I felt like I was in prison did you ever did you have good mechanics in there no no no that one huh one time I had some rough students I had one guy six inches taller than me and outweighed me by 70 pounds I'd say he could wrap you around this pole you know he would well know something about that fire and mess up he's throw the torch I said no way man just do want to tell you and some good if I didn't teach him well maybe some of them guys went on to be in future mechanics you never know well this guy did yeah it's one thing to teach high school kids how to tune up a car or change the oil but it's another to teach grown men a trade to help them turn their life around it's absolutely awesome this thing is outrageous look at this air cleaner look at the quality somebody went through that I've never seen anything like that when I saw it a Studebaker truck I fell in love whoever had it put so much time love and detail into it didn't it because it was like for our customer God everything about it I'm shining in here in the back of the distributor cap the ignition points are definitely corroded up for moisture yeah looking at the truck I see a lot of things that are wrong with it crank it over please oh my god hold it [Music] so Rick when I walked in I seen the car but I also seen this analyzer this was an early 20th century motor analyzer battery performance compression dwell angle used to have multiple tools to test each one of those things when this came around is simplified it for the mechanic it's got the Art Deco white on top here it's wooden so that tells some of its age most all the ones you see are made by Sun they're all metal so this is the granddaddy of what you see today maybe even the great granddaddy all the gauges are pretty clean I don't see anything too broken or anything little things down here you know this has a mad scientist look to it I think cleaned up but the gauges all shined up and everything replace all the light bulbs this doesn't have to be in your garage you can have it in your home is this something you would sell yeah I think I would I'd be interested for $300 I couldn't do that with it well what do you what are you thinking I think it's worth 5 I can't buy it for 5 and try to sell him for 5 agree but I think you can sell it for more than 5 I'm dealing with a retired shop teacher that worked in a prison how about 350 this is a one-of-a-kind thing this was factory made you know I mean this was not like one-of-a-kind there must be another one out there somewhere but I don't know where it is so if it comes down to negotiating he's heard every story there is $400 500 that that's my low on it so this guy's tough for 5500 he knows the game 500 you know it's how to play all righty all right thank you you know what sometimes you got to pay up today's the day I had to pay up Frank check out the back end of that 35 40 what's going on with that you know build that into something I was hoping to build that into a convertible yes you know Rick has some great taste he's got some nice cars in here how about this 35 for grille no you need that for you yeah 5 it just seems like he's one of those kind of guys it takes on another project doesn't finish this one takes another one on it doesn't finish it I've been there I'm still there whoa this is awesome I love these trusses are those wood oh they're wood Wow there's something aren't they yeah those are really cool I mean you usually see those are ironed what's up with this little pedal car I made it did you really that's pretty cool so would you these wheels are off a baby buggy yes what was your inspiration my dad had a 23 Jordan playboy roadster oh no kid yeah so your dad was a collector too yes that's where it came from yeah it was really me and my dad we'd go on weekend jeonse or something we'd always go by the same gas station I'd say now that car back there what is that he said that's a 50 Buick and I just learned cars just that fast and pretty soon I said hey there's another 41 Plymouth there's another Buick and I got to where I could just name every car on the road what would you sell this thing III just can't do it I made that old pedal car for a really good reason this right after my divorce and I didn't have any money and I couldn't seem to get a job everything just seemed to be going the wrong way for me I thought I'm gonna make a pedal car for my boy he was just four years old then they're supposed to up your spirits well it did oh you can never sell that then as soon as he told me that I was like there is no price for this car you're right that's a keeper that's nice whistle I steam whistle yeah that was something my dad collected steam whistles it's got one chamber but good size would you sell this how about 175 for that I'll do it how I get this is one of these kind of picks today there's so much stuff in here you're really gonna have to search that that's all Packard stuff there now that looks roached 150 bucks okay I mean there's a lot of auto parts like there's a lot of stuff below whoa whoa get here that's the old coal chute cool this isn't just walking by and shopping today this is gonna be some digging coming on out and trying to find a piece of gold in a lot of rust motorcycle Harley Davidson amps it's a good piece late 20s jtro or something this might be the only motorcycle piece in this whole building I'd paid 200 bucks for it all right we're doing it when's the last time you were back here I think about 15 years ago did you play the saxophone yes I did yeah and then how about this oh yeah it's a nice one in the shining star here in the middle of the pile of rust this is a Cadillac goddess hood ornament it's early 1930s very cool it's been replated a couple hundred bucks make it 250 ensures I'm gonna do it okay what about the Victrola there or what's left of it make me an offer on that this phonograph is beyond Krusty 75 bucks all right this is the kind of thing I could rent as a prop you and I have been blessed yeah when you walk through this much stuff you know you did something right not according my wife hey Dave crank it over now we're not getting any fuel Dave down to reality I've got to go through this and make this car right get it running and bring it home hey I need you to get the gas can behind there because I think what's happened was the fuel pickup line that goes in they didn't hook it up properly you got enough we're gonna run a fresh line up to the gas cans and see if we can get this thing fired up perfect okay let's try it now see if we can get this thing rolling you're ready buddy yeah I'm ready come on starts up easy no smoking get out here I want to show you something leave it neutral [Music] look over here a little bit so what year is this this is a 31 I bought this car as a parts car do you remember what you paid for this back in the day inside think I gave 750 bucks for it but my buddy also traded a 29 model a two-door since this guy was in Fords so if you're not a Ford guy kind of guy aren't ya you're ready right yeah didn't Berg really sounds expensive we'd always be all I can be this Berg was the best car built there is no doubt about that they had a double overhead cam 420 cubic inch straight-8 engine that put out 265 horsepower in 1929 the styling was slick the work was slick and they were just so good look I mean you got a Cutlass here you got this oh you did 29 yeah oh it was a gorgeous car you were running with big cats then yeah if you're buying Duesenberg parts I didn't buy those down at the flea market I go in to place the guide had news Morgan I'd say have you got any parts that you're not gonna use yeah oh yeah I got this little gas tank over here but he said it leaks well I'll buy that he was a bird dog he went to other collectors that had already done restorations on their cars they had parts and pieces left over and he was able to gather all of that stuff up and build a car so what happened to the Duesenberg sold it to Jay Leno really Wow how long ago 10 years ago no kid you get good money yeah I did how could he afford that yeah take it out to his house well good for you so that was your Holy Grail the Duesenberg fine because I tell you what you ain't gonna do that again now my bird days are over I never started that's cool we thinking on the Packard grille I'm not thinking on because I got the rest of the Packard it goes to a project that he's working with all right how about this thing got a car body got some holes in it 90% of the stuff in here is a project so when we're walking by I noticed this I mean obviously I know it's a coil the coil is part of a car's ignition system it basically takes the voltage from the battery and produces a spark at the spark plug today when you turn your key your just starts you don't even think about it but in the early 20th century everything had to be done manually so that's the key you would turn the key on for your car you would hit the battery yep then it would start start and once it starts then you hit the mag to advance it there you go I mean it's beautiful it's dovetailed it's got the original mounting brackets it's got the points never seen one before it's wooden it's in great shape something you'd sell yeah no key right okay no kidding I got four it's right in your hands right my hands what you think Rick I think that'll be worth $100 bill I'll do 100 okay all right buddy thank you I like it it's just a really cool early automobile park it's a great conversation piece you know what you're looking at there well I mean it's a car come on Frank even I know it's a roamer Oh looky look doesn't say any room were in here boom a roamer it was made by the barley Motor Company they started in nineteen sixteen or eighteen and this this is the last one built in 29 25 sales fell off pretty drastically 26 they cut it in half again so things really slow down and by 29 they only built two cars they decided just to finish this car up and call it quits that was it in 1929 the Model A Ford was king would have been hard for them to compete I agree with you Frank but this didn't compete against the Fords this car competed up against like Cadillac some more luxury straight-6 what's in it it's a straight eight so it wouldn't get up a little bit yes it would oh yeah it's a light coming straight eight if you're gonna buy a luxury car you bought a Cadillac Sedan if you wanted a Cadillac roadster you look at the roamer of cars this was a car they compete like a Corvette would today when you think about American cars you think about the big 3 Ford Chrysler General Motors but back in the 20s and 30s there were a lot of small car companies still trying to compete Roemer was one of those cars so what are you thinking on it now you're gonna sell it I I gave it to my daughter okay but I don't think she wants to sell it I don't blame her the roamer is not going anywhere what do you think something like this is value at I turned down 20,000 for it he's got someone in the family that thinks as much of it as he does it's not like you go out buy another one that's what we all want as collectors yeah you guys got a claw hammer throw me a hammer I'll get this sign down see if that'll work on throw it up all right all the cars I have in here we're a project like this one right here it's a 1929 model a that Oldsmobile I got four parts for that car back there whoa but I'm 73 almost 74 years old so I'm not gonna restore them no you can't take it with you no matter how much you think you can take it with you you can't it may be with you but you're still dead you're dead all right Frankie's not metal that's one heavy yeah we got it this stuff is not gonna salt itself you got to get it out in the sunlight and you know what if you clears a little bit out maybe I'll have some room to finish up those projects that he really wants to get done all right buddy here's to find in another Duesenberg yeah you know when most people look at a building like this if they drive by and they see the garage door open they're like man what a bunch of junk to Rick and to us we were like this is all money there's somebody out there for each and every single piece of this see you boy okay [Music] whoever built this they put a lot of thought into the car this thing I can't wait to get it on the road and try it after we get the gas tank I have to wait for the guest thing to get back to drive it you know you're absolutely right already hooked up the remote as long as we strap that baby in yeah yeah bailenson right there we're gonna go cruising okay hop in man I'll buy you some chili how's that chili yeah I want a cheeseburger well this is cool you don't see a lot of student beaker trucks I mean this is awesome boy do we look good in it too heavy stewed lives again you know it runs great it's in the engine some just fell off oh this is how I die alright I got it alright ready alright dude I ready that's my contract those shots on the back of my bald spot I had a stroke I lost part of my memory I couldn't remember where I lived did you manage to UM forget about your ex-wife no damn [Laughter]
