AMD 6900XT not working after transport

foreign I've got ah another AMD I got one two three that's our fourth one just came in another headache I do not dislike AMD as a brand I do not like how what they Implement into their design for instance I am battling what am I battling with what what am I not battling with I'm battling with this um what is this 7900 uh well exactly the same thing except power caller and the X DPE controller on the back so you got the uh the IR uh 52 17 or 25 17 something like that that controls the memory now the xdpe controls the stock Rail and the gfx cannot flash it I don't know why I got that software got the dongle everything the IR 5217 flashes no problem but the stupid XDP just won't flash using the power open power program I don't know there's got to be another program to do this anyway the reason number two why I hate AMD if because uh well they're the most recent one so these cables here they're so soft so if you put in let me get in there closer so you can see the struggle the struggle of a lonely white man um see so if I were to grab this and I want to reach out and grab this connector chances are it's going to slip and then because the the coating around the wires are so so soft so cheap uh it will rip and the cable in there uh the strands of wires inside the the cable are so cheap and so thin that they will rip in half and cut like through butter with just just trying to disconnect so the the one on the on the right is kind of okay-ish but this one it's it's scary man I will I've already damaged one before I mean you can see I can't even get a grip on this sucker it's like a some kind of a special tool that I gotta have or something so scared there we go this is not cool man some kind of a super special type look look at this connector so look at this connector and this is a standard one zero headache with the exception of these little hooks on the side that prevent you from pulling it out or actually help you to pull out the complete uh the whole terminal on the PCB or maybe pull the PCB along with it who cares but this little sucker there it's just that's it it's the end of it anyway uh the card came in uh the guy said he uh transported something with the U-haul and uh and now it's dead so let's see how kind of wonder about the title of this video now killed by U-Haul or killed by a transporter so I'm gonna take this thing apart real quick and then we'll have a look inside foreign Okay so microphone battery died um all I wanted to say was nothing important the card is detected as you have seen uh it doesn't show anything about the memory none of that kind of stuff so I'm guessing issues with the memory or broken starter joints under the core so trying to run a memory test let's see if we can get into that okay there we go because uh when I tried it for the first time um the screen went black and so now I'm running it as a secondary hopefully uh looks like it's gonna work this time okay Q okay so LS PCI there's my device how about uh where are we at okay CD ATI D AG LS what is it 6900 6900 7 900 same thing so CD RX 7900. not a directory seven thousand No 7 000 yes okay so now from here because we have mem tune we got the all the stuff so we're just gonna run mem tune mem tune training check no fatal detected very interesting haha okay what about uh I've never ran um a t-server G server Board Test equals [Music] yeah it does not support the member whatever that just means that this particular uh version software version does not support the current GPU so it says that we don't have any memory errors yet for some reasons it says that we're don't have a correct bias or whatever so let's turn it off and let's try one more time let's try to boot as if this was our primary GPU let's try one more time and then I will be using an oscilloscope and I will be watching we're gonna get a picture no picture okay okay uh let's try DisplayPort and uh wiggle the connections because my connections are all rusty though it worked a second ago try again how we're gonna get a picture are we do not get a picture haha okay let's turn it off so it doesn't produce a picture while it's running as a primary but as a secondary we don't seem to have a problem as we've seen so let's do it again let's go into let's go somewhere let's go to Windows so they either either the bias got corrupted because I do not see any sign well I haven't really checked I will check though in just a moment okay so let me go ahead and check for phases real quick one more time hopefully we didn't lose anything 's looking memory is a bit noisy I don't like how the all that noise on memory no but everything is looking fine everything is looking fine and my triggers are off yeah so everything is looking fine the card is Oh see now we got a problem haha error code 43. why didn't you give me that problem before maybe it needed a warm-up so see Zero Zero clock all that stuff is zeros so this could be it could be bios uh uh that get corrupted and causes this but chances are it's just a memory chip we just have to we just gotta figure out which one we just need to let it warm up a bit more maybe it'll finally give way and tell us which chip is bad sometimes it takes a while sometimes it shows up only when it's ice cold sometimes it shows up only when it's red hot never know so let's go in here and run mem tune real quick nope no channels no failed Channel detected very strange hmm well then okay what I want to do now I'm going to do the easy thing first I will not believe what the customer had stated about it getting damaged during transport though I will probably wanna I probably do want to look at it and make sure but I will go into the BIOS and I will check the BIOS and I will look for the crack and I do not see any cracks and on the back everything is looking like the customer really did care about supporting the GPU uh one thing I want to look at though is probably probably I can probably uh do a visual inspection which I failed to do most of the time assuming that nothing's wrong physically with the cord but we're gonna check so I'm gonna go ahead and check for uh any knockoff components and I'll be right back so the thing here is not letting me read uh the chip so like if it get an ID error check there's nothing you can do about it you got to get the chip out of the board because this sucker just does not want to read um I don't know why that is though usually I get that on uh cards with the low resistance on the 3.3 volt rail though how does this affect 1.8 volt rail connected chip no idea so something else must be uh something else must be a factor uh maybe my cheap reader isn't uh powerful enough I don't know so I'm gonna get the chip out of there manually as if anything happens here automatically everything's manual everything is done by hand no big bosses here that do the work for you come on foreign there we go we got movement we got movement there we go all right let's clean that up let's clean that up Let's uh John Wick this thing and the rest of it as well because it doesn't need to be there see like that clean up get it ready for a chip to go back on and let's see if we can well we gotta clean that guy too because we're gonna put him inside the adapter I don't want to be soldering that thing from one board to another too many times get it nice and clean uh right there oh you cannot see nothing can you everything is all fuzzy isn't it almost uh okay so now I'm gonna take this adapter and we're gonna we're gonna put that chip in there see how cool is that so that goes in there and that goes in there and sometimes you can just kind of pull them apart make sure that it's really grabbed onto those legs and let's go flash it let's go flash this thing or actually read off of it so let's read see no problem perfect so I'm Gonna Save uh let's see hold on so basically I saved the original bias and then when you open it up there's a line that says uh version so you just copy the version you go on Google you paste it you you download it you know so that way you're downloading the exact uh or more or less correct bias file so let's go ahead and exit out of here and uh let's load the new file that I have just downloaded and program okay we can exit out and let's go back let's go back under a microscope where we can solder the chip back onto the board all right there put that there see I like to do things like checking bios right away sometimes I just don't want to be guessing it's it may be one of the things that you remember from the old days where people flashing bios left and right so it makes you wonder but I've seen bias corrupted too many times to assume that it never happens you know there I'm sure Northridge fix would have done a better soldering job than I have whoops speak of the devil okay oh let's go back to the motherboard I do not want to be reballing any course today I just want this to be an easy bias Flash wouldn't that be awesome so that's there that's there turn that off put that there and if we if we get a picture let me lubricate this connector here just in case it's a little crusty a little crusty my PCI Express slot on this board is completely gone can't even detect anything anymore okay let's go I can see maybe a little bit more paste this paste is cheap three dollars a gallon or something like that perfect let's go and boot well no let's go yes see if we get a picture if we get a picture we win if we don't get a picture uh we're gonna reboil the core holy cow no way [Laughter] no way bro how is that even a thing come on don't get stuck on me do not get stuck on me you do not have the right though it was going black just like it's doing now for some reason it just kind of freezes so huh okay let me shut this thing down so it's doing exactly the same thing as it did before we get we get halfway um somewhere I wonder if I'm gonna press on the chord just a little bit no picture that's it it gave me a picture one time no more picture so what does that tell you oh guys what does that tell you it tells me absolutely nothing other than today is not going to be your easy day it's going to be another one of those re ball days so let's reboil this sucker and uh and let's make it happen though I wonder let's see let me put this thing into um just for the sake of the demonstration I'm going to put this thing into a chiller and by a chiller I mean it's sitting inside of my exhaust Port where it cools down and uh um I'm going to try to run a memory test while while it's cold and we'll see if that ha if that will have any positive effect right there hopefully we will finally get the chip that's com that gives us problems or we can just assume uh that it's the one closest to the slot and just press on it and see if we get a pass or we can do both or we can do nothing because I'm not really sure exactly what I want to do anyway I just want this thing to work okay I think that's probably enough let's plug this thing in real quick while it's sort of cold there that goes there that goes there that goes there and uh let's see if we can continue on getting a picture and I'm going to press on the memory chip and see if we can get into our windows I should have been pressing with my left finger because I cannot use the mouse with my left hand but we're getting a picture and that's a sign I'm going to switch my fingers somehow if we lose a picture oh hey your name is administrato you are now Hispanic holy cow have you guys oh see just let go I just let go my finger off that chip and that's what and that's what you're getting okay let's turn this thing off go away yeah okay it's that stupid chip son of a deadly let's go and uh maybe we can get away with just reflowing this chip wouldn't that be amazing maybe we can get away with just free flowing the core but you guys know me well enough I do not believe in Reflow so we will have to we have to do what's right and the only thing to do that's right would be to reball the rebol is the answer um believe it or not probably too a very good percent of all my repairs especially lately when people are moving around people are buying online things get shipped things break exactly the same way crack solder joints all that good stuff so re ball is like the most important skill set to have in my opinion at least all right this is looking good so I'm going to I'm going to rebold this memory chip I'm going to leave the core alone and unless the core is going to start showing me symptoms of needing to be re-balled but we will be doing the exact same testing that we've done before we're going to be pressing on it we're going to be twisting the board all sorts of stuff we're gonna force it to show its ugly face and if it doesn't then we should be okay see you don't even have to have a cracked PCB in order to have a problem with the chip and I mean the problem with a broken throttle joint under the chip that closest to the slot all you got to do is to have a do you have a lack of support that's all it takes no support cracks on a joint impossible to detect even the software wasn't detecting it how do you expect you know a certain someone to detect it okay that's gonna go in there that's gonna go in there and we're just gonna go and get that done and see if that helps I don't see any ripped pads or anything so they're looking good it looks promising it's always good to lift the chip rather than to Reflow because if you lift it then you know 100 percent whether or not there's a problem because sometimes Reflow can sort of glue things together to some degree but eventually the connection is going to break again so but if you lift the chip if the pads are ripped you'll see it you will lift the pad with the chip but that wasn't the case today so we had a clean clean liftoff it seems the chips are in good condition it seems and we might just be able to get it fixed seams or maybe not all right we are getting there we are getting there we're gonna get there someday but we're gonna get there we might be old by the time we get there but we will whatever it is that we're trying to get we'll get there oh another reason why I don't like AMD especially 7900 is because 0.45 balls do not work for the core you need uh if I'm not mistaken 0.55 and that really sucks so I'm gonna solder I'm gonna solder that chip right here because the board is already hot and it will preheat the cheap for me hopefully uh oh yeah see that was a that was like a pro tip that I didn't even know existed I just gave it to you put that chip back on the board the board while still being hot will preheat the cheap the chip and uh it'll speed up the process of a soldering net chip as you have just seen I got that chip started in like two seconds so let's uh see if we can put that chip back on there right there and the chip is already hot and ready to go okay I'll let this thing cool down and uh and then we're gonna give it a try and see if reballing that membership has helped okay so the board is still a little hot um let me check for memory resistances real quick and I want to turn it on while it's kind of hot so see four Ohms on memory no shorter than 1.8 we're good so I want to boot this thing uh while it's still um hotter than it would be otherwise so that way we get to test it while it's hot and then I'll cool it down and then I'll test it while it's cool so I think it's probably 80 maybe 70 80 degrees right now and uh if we're gonna get a picture out of this thing we'll go straight into windows and then we're gonna go see if we get a picture if everything's going to work fine then we're going to cool it down as much as we can and then we're gonna go in the windows again or maybe you could run a member test or whatever something we're gonna do something We're not gonna sit here and wonder we're just gonna do something all right board is hot take off all right we got a picture I think because the monitor has flickered yes let's go into windows and see if we're going to see any funny images like a super large resolution hopefully not hopefully today is our lucky day full screen 1080p what would you do yes we won device manager uh display adapter 6900 XT and gpu-z everything is on there see right there everything is showing up a lot more sensors so 40 degrees let's kick it with the framework just for a second we don't want to overheat anything okay we don't want framework anymore uh two seconds of valley just for the basic diagnostic purposes and I am flexing the board right now I am flexing the board nothing is happening good I will repeat the exact same uh board Flex thing uh once I cool the car down so that way uh my suspicions of any uh broken solder joints under the core will go away so let's put that thing into a cooler or a sucker for a couple of minutes while we clean up the workstation thank you nothing to see here absolutely nothing to see here no crime has been committed all right where's my board my board it feels feels feels cool it feels cool bro okay let's go very quickly very swiftly where do we want to go I don't know let's go into windows picture yes picture yay yes we won woohoo double check double check looks good I will look at the rest of the stuff after we assemble the card in run stress test perfect day man I thought I would have no fix today after that one 6900 XT that's driving me nuts for whatever reason I cannot flash uh that controller on there I don't know I don't know why I can't let me look I might want to save a dump out of this one I don't know do I have let's see kind of makes me wonder if I have a dump for uh for a reference design 7900 so Radeon 7900 XT okay so I do have a dump okay and then I have the IR dump and the in the XD xpd xpde xdpe I didn't spill it right uh so I have that and then I got the power collar uh the radio uh um the Red Devil yeah good so I have all dumps I don't need to worry about the dumps you need to worry about the dumps because you get a card like uh something like this um and if you get it the second time you might want to get a dump so I do have some dumps in my Discord Channel that you can access so if you ever need to access anything pretty much anything that I have just go there it's all yours everything I got um almost everything some things are kept private um not a whole lot just some things like the like say I have a pictures of the PCB and all the measurements and um sometimes I make new discoveries and I make some changes on those pictures uh so I I do update them uh I do update them on my in my personal folders but Discord is uh not really allowing me to update attachments without deleting the original post which kind of sucks I really wish that they were letting me update the original post but they don't that's just how how this chord operates which is why I would be more than happy to have a dedicated website rather than a Discord server because the website restrictions are just they're just up to the the website developer uh like a form you know you can set up your restrictions whatever you like however you like and uh and I ran websites before uh specifically forums PHP BB based easy stuff highly customizable and as a matter of fact I do have a domain registered but I'm not using it I'm using it for I'm just keeping it registered so that nobody touches it I don't want nobody to touch my domain with them dirty hands them dirty Apes you damn dirty ape with them dirty hands this one feels odd nope it's not exact same issue so I'm gonna have to go back to cinematic so we're roughly 100 frames in in this scene right here okay so let's go in here and we gotta remember where we were so sound sound AMD high definition sound okay disable that yes AMD disable that yes close that and let's drive let's run the valley again and then we'll see what FPS uh we're going to be getting at at that exact same location wouldn't that be impressed if it's doubles okay we'll just chill and wait so far nothing changed really I think we should be around here somewhere maybe is that is that the scene where we had a hundred or so or was it the next was it this one ah same thing yep same thing I guess we're not really gaining anything so who cares let's run the stress test and we are closely monitoring The Hot Spot uh one thing I do not want to see is a very rapid increase in the hot spot temperature which would indicate a improper connection with heatsink in the core in our case the there was no rapid increase is gradually Rising so you can confidently say that we have a very good connection uh with the core and the heatsink as we have seen while we were disassembling the card everything else is looking fine I'm going to run the cards for a few minutes until it warms up completely to make sure it's operating uh while it's uh when it reaches its maximum operating temperature and thank you for
