all right here we go all it is is the most watched most successful most awarded most most and the whole family is here he blew into Pine Valley as the wealthy mysterious and dashing to meet Romero and now he's headed for the altar with Erica Cade is Michael Nader he's the charming lawyer entrepreneur who has a taste for trouble and a Challon he plays Jackson Montgomery on all my children well I can't keep up with these people can fell off a bridge he got amnesia Michael II Knight Rider you know when I'm home and I'm kind of emission you're a little distracted you got a lot on your mind then you got a long day ahead a I like to relax and sort of just enter the fantasy of the soap opera where there is there's a kind of a special feeling of of love and it's nice I you laugh I transcend into the story I become part of the story and I am absorbed by loving scenes the loving scenes such as I show you right here this is nice I love you you love her she's the hard-working editor who seems to make a career of motherhood seem effortless Julia ng party smooth he's the evil conniving businessman and then sometimes he's a sweetheart I don't understand this two characters he's David canary well here she is that top of the heap the best in the business here is the reigning queen of the daytime soap I give you Susan telling you we haven't had this much excitement on this program I need a night look since I wore a skirt I find a vein well Susan how good to see you again here's one of my the best pictures I ever took guess who hosted the Emmys look at this look at this looks like I just swallowed a lemon these two young and attractive people co-host of the Daytime Emmys last year and as you know it was at night last year we did pretty good oh we had such a good time and it was however a night not without its distractions I didn't win and guess who else did and one of the nicest things I've ever seen ever on television this is live television primetime on the network we're coast to coast we were pretty hot that night where we were but we also had a sort of a heavy heart Susan doesn't win and then of course after the award is presented you know were the emcees we can't just you know go home or go out and have a drink so we walk back out on a stage just after Susan sustained another disappointment and watch what happens then so what you're nobody's dead you're still working you and honestly you're the most talked about personality and all of daytime television done and you before I'll tell you what I have a hard time looking at the Ford when she's in the commercial Thanks ah well Susan's getting married again you'll all be you know about this when we're planning to get married how many marriages is eight is this eight yeah this is a good-looking group of players isn't it right here yeah and it's a yes years ago soap opera stars were considered not as good as everybody else do you feel like you finally got in the respect that you deserve I hope you feel that way oh not nearly as much sir there's no joke then that a dredger was doing a film and he wants a particular actor and someone suggests someone who was in daytime twitch the director responds now look I need somebody who can learn lines quick go through emotional turmoil on a daily basis and does not mind long hours how can I use somebody from daytime well that's exactly the description of what we do every day five days a week 52 weeks a year and in this economic times I think that people are going to wake up and see the talent pool in daytime that they can do a film 10 percent what it normally is because they have people who can do things in 1 take 2 take 3 take 4 not 44 45 and 46 when they wake up to that we're gonna see 500 movies made a year instead of 50 I hope you're right daytime daytime is is a genre that's had incredible durability it's been around for 35 years plus and I think it started out as a housewives medium because they were the ones that were at home it's and it had nothing to do with what was being viewed or the quality of the talent that was on it was merely I think if that's how it started to know go into the Bulls locker room and try to change that channels all my children have noon in Chicago hey wait am I gonna be touching that demographics have changed it markedly and now with people taping the shows so many people tape all my children and watch it at night Mike you know if you look if you look I was just gonna say if you look at the Daytime Emmys I think how long it was Susan six years ago they weren't even on the air and in the last two years or two or three years that they've been on at night they have been the highest rated show on for the week and I also also just to end it let Susan tell you that her movie of the week that just showed a couple weeks ago well between love and hate is the highest rated movie on ABC this year this questions with David canary I was just wondering is it difficult when you do the scenes with Adam and Stuart talking to each other like how do you do that can we see three is three ready well when you're ready this is an interesting challenge Dave you're quite right David does you're allowed to watch this huh I tape it and I come home from school and watch it um David uh we need to say here it is let's watch David at work here look at this two characters catch the hairdo here it's all part of the stance to achieve working you see you're an easy mark and you mean that mean and arrogant please don't do this to each other oh you're good she's good she invited you to bed yet it's not like that Adam jela hit a lady I'm gonna make you an offer you can't refuse and you don't even have to take off your clothes you think you can treat people like dirt you leave my brother alone and you can name your price how much you want I don't want your money what's the matter it just gives his money you don't have to work for it you that's why sometimes I don't recognize those yeah what you do you just go like this before so to turn you back and that's all there is to it it's not like that David listen all my Chile probably know this been on the air since 1970 it was a it was a it was a half-hour show for seven years and then kaboom yes this is the Agnes Nixon creation and it does nothing but win awards including for Susan you've won the People's Choice the PEO you've won every award wouldn't it be neat if you got an Oscar first well then you just strut incidentally the the Daytime Emmys are once again you're quite right they did very well the Daytime Emmys go through the roof everybody it's so much fun to see all these people who make their living in the daytime you know with their tuxedos coming out there obviously America feels that way as well and so Susan Lucci is co-hosting the Emmys this year airing May 26th in prime time and I was co-host with her last year so obviously I you know I've been so busy the call hasn't come sure the call has come but I I'm just going to thank you for being out of your office when I call did come so you mean to tell me Susan you're leaving me for another man Susan and Walt Willy will be co-hosting a lot of people would be bothered Chanel 5 does it bother me the thing just so the audience knows the network's the ABC NBC and CBS rotate every year who broadcasts the Daytime Emmys and now wisely last year NBC chose to broadcast it at night and ABC is going to broadcast it at night this year and I have a feeling that uh ABC chose to have two ABC people oh so I shouldn't feel so bad yes ma'am yes you'll be fabulous you're a tall dude though I don't know how they're gonna get you in the same shot I am trenching tool and I'll just work my other 10 mile per minute wall let me just stand right here Susan well we got a reversed in the same shot look at this here are your co-hosts Daytime Emmy I'll give you a chance we'll be back with these stars from all my children to be part of the audience please send a postcard to Donahue tickets care of NBC 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York New York 1 0 1 1 2 remember postcards only please yes ma'am you wanted to ask yes first I wanted to tell tad that I'm very happy he's back on the show like to see happen with the brook Dixie tad triangle the brook Dixie tat I'm sorry I wanted to ask what you'd like to see happen if if you'd want to be at the front grinning I would like to personally see him stop having flashbacks of her right here he proposes to me or asks me to marry him or says he loves me it's really disconcerting you notice it when you stay honest up long enough you end up marrying everybody and the truth is were all related to each other which is very very big of Lexington and for ourselves my way to Susan and then stop Ted as you so familiarly refer to him huh that's recently been married I know I was upset when I read about that here you are with your beautiful beautiful wife Catherine Hickland and actress did we see it we did see it okay yes congratulations hey just a second of Kent you're all over here on another Channel yes I have this questions for Dimitri was there a big difference between being on a nighttime soap opera and then moving to a daytime soap opera because you all enjoyed yuan dynasty there's quite quite a big difference look at that history day times much harder much more difficult medium to work in as a wall so you know spoke a few minutes ago everything's done we do a our show in one day compared to an hour show in six and a half days so it's it's a challenge I enjoy it and I'm working with one of the great divas of all time thank you my question is for Susie Susan Lucci Susie my mom loves you guys how long have you been acting and how long will you continue to act for all my children well thank you I've been on all my children since it began in 1970 you're a teenager and I really love Erica Kane and so far I have not been able to walk away from her and I can't imagine walking away from her um I've got a picture here of oh here's an early scene is that what this is vintage loose lucci like you know like she's our we get ready for the from the home what years do we know she has early season from all my Pearlie go go get him right she's accepted responsibility and she's dealt with it in a way honey that unfortunately you are not yet mature enough to do since I'm not mature I'm at least as mature as she is I mean little that I've done in my life all on my own I mean I lived in New York City and I held Ana a full-time demanding modeling job and I I supported myself completely and I was totally independent I mean that's something that Tara Tara Martin never had to do now I'm a jerk for saying you're prettier today we usually send a big she knows who got greater oh thank you very much you made my day but one of these days you're gonna turn 30 and then you've got it just next 23 years are gonna be really tell you what to say what you want but David canary he's won all kinds of awards including several Emmys I'm some I'm sorry I'm um you're sorry why well I don't know exactly how many um three three three you know three and that's an achievement really this is as competitive as you can imagine the people these folks compete with David canary also does theater and a start and Peyton Place and he also started in take a good look here wanna take a good luck roll it roll it Brian here it is after mr. Cartwright whether these men go stay at subproblem and cartwright will see it our way you better go see mr. Cartwright candy eyes open you say that he's doing if I may I'd like to thank my daughter Dario your daughter and the wonderful Donna you staff remodel the surprise and say that in about 20 years I have never missed a ping an episode and I enjoy you very much maybe you can tell me how to take Wendy's picture we got to see Wendy's parents are here and here's the beautiful young woman who's the first face you see will you come to our show and it become a part of our studio audience and then I have to follow her which is no picnic and we'll be back in just a moment Julia what you were married to you were married to Adam yeah can you imagine that's yours yeah then you almost married Willy and then you well jihad Oh Jackson now that one left me the altar twice but this one is great for being on soap for because I've only been married twice I think that's what you were engaged to Dimitri's half-brother I'll never forget that about to marry dad are you gonna marry Ted oh that's a stay tuned item they don't want you to what a marriage here tad needs to marry Dixie across very pious but Brooke you've been sleeping with everybody in town yeah and I should go ask Myrtle to close the boutique and have a drink or what about me I am Laurel that's right Laurel most people my Mellie has slept around I gotta tell you I know but get Dixie a break and send Bryan back to college you know that Michael nadir played Dex texture on dynasty and has TV movies are you going to marry Eric or what's going on - I is that yeah he is and that's probably not okay with you either is a long hour for you you're a lobby watch at work my boss has bought me the television that's nice Erica how did you have a baby and not remember I remember I just wanted to keep it a secret but thanks Timon oh can never keep a secret hardly Mona thinks why does it no yeah Mona thinks Erica doesn't know a thing she's always been lying find out the clone Valley now who's coming in is tad the other cat - Adam Adam Stewart Natalie and her sister and now Karen who's the semen or somebody coming knocking at the door so it's just gonna ask the same thing who's who's the tad clone I know this have to watch all right oh it's definitely Ted Orsini it's gotta be Ted or singing right you guys know should be mine again I've been watching the show for 23 years I live in the beginning it's the only subject on which I know I can speak authoritative funny my friend and I over here happened to be co-hosts of a weekly radio talk show out of Westport W mmm well I'm happy to give you the plug although I certainly didn't have to the show is two chicks dishing and we talk about my children all the time and we would be the most obsequious host in the world if any of you came on I'm telling you listen in your love just say where we broadcast high atop Oscars deli sure come on I guarantee you you have a fabulous pound will come to a halt schmooze will laugh I'll go downstairs get you a bagel anything wonderful I love you well be getting bigger how's this for hutzpah friends three chicks dishes Wednesdays at 6 p.m. we get a lot of koalas calling and asking all my children questions yes we are all my children central but I do I do have a real question well I hope you know I hope you're getting to the bottom of things in Westport boy we got a lot of stories going thank you well second now I don't I don't get that I don't get the Emmy job and now you're saying oh yeah by the way we'll have you Tocqueville I say it's Phil this question is for Michael Knight I'm wondering why you made the if I may say so foolish decision to leave the show and why you made the wise decision to come back first of all what does up series mean okay I think that at that point I mean I I started very very young as did Susan and I just felt that I wanted to try to do it do other things and it's very tough in Los Angeles now and and I decided to come back because Agnes want me to come back and do something that I thought was exciting so right over here folks I just want to say you're out so much more gorgeous and younger looking interesting this question is for the men and doing your sexy steamy love sings are you actually getting turned on never seen us dude seems to do what I am yes another time that means that first of all it's it's it's just about as sexy a place to do it as maybe like a hotdog stand at that Matt Shea Stadium I mean first of all these rooms have three walls not four you've got to cameraman a stage manager depending upon the state of undress the actress is any web engineers you've never seen I've never worked at that studio before and our gathering around watching I still get a wooden I could you just changed you're a guy who doesn't get to come to West Point bring your obsequious one I think all the guys are great and I want to say to what Willie this girl that you so crazy about she's really full of it because I'm getting tired of her she is so mysterious I don't be that mysterious with you well I mean she's being mysterious because you know I mean that's that's one of the conventions that they use in daytime I know you are in about two weeks yours yeah hard time given the other way welcome to the locker room I love you too you're looking you're real hands all of your love all of you yeah I can't wait to get back from the store you know tripping over trying to get in there so I can look at it I love this you love you well here's Willie at work nice work if you can get watch this right here really so you think I'll listen a little bit in well I guess if there's a trace of waste in this face it's because I was prefer to stand in for him with you that's all den idea of game going to work departing from your suite company's more than to do well okay let's just stay in bed for no don't tell me I am totally serious we're not moving from this bed we'll be back in just a you you I used to be able to control this program uh Julia you own this merchandise catalog no I'm this I interesting chef I became the spokesperson for it's titled the company of women mm-hmm so and you have a bade a daughter I shouldn't say baby how old is this baby the baby will be nine in July I was actually pregnant with her on the show everyone remembers I was what big around as I was tall you know it's a dream situation really obviously you were did you were you worried when you got pregnant that maybe this is the old career and maybe they'll write me out of the script I don't know well I tell you was very strange I was working at the time with the dick shoberg who played and plays the character of Tom Cudahy and they as I understand we're going in the opposite direction a couple that was going to have a problem having a child so what I called him looking like he had a watermelon in your pocket my husband and I have succeeded where Tom and Brooke have failed is that gonna be a problem and they did some fancy dancing but they mmm then they decided to be working in and you came back I'm sorry to Rison you know you don't have to answer how long did you stay on that ah with Alison about three and a half months mm-hmm that's the waiter that's motivation back into a wardrobe right oh that's it that's nice we should all have that kind of job security this isn't how did you do you had two children on the show today sure you were eating bonbons Erika eating herself into oblivion to account for the weight gain um actually Erika lost one baby when I personally was five months pregnant and he's just so much an actress can do you know what I mean I think no but I kept on growing so they had all this bomb Godwin here stand behind bureaus for a long time flowers a lot of flowers a lot of flowers I came in at a good time I think when are you doing end of July Oh end of July wonderful I've been a big fan for 20 years so that puts me at about 9 when I started watching so I've seen all these wonderful people evolve and my question is for mr. Willie yes mr. catch what are you wily Willie Todd where can we catch your stand-up comedy routine nowadays nowadays know where my stock do I start the the wild and Willie I didn't think of the name the wild and woody tour starts June 7th I'm gonna be in Oklahoma City June 8th in Tucson and June 9th and Albuquerque number 25 cities on through September so I know I'll be out of Long Island and up in Brooklyn and out in West Orange between June and July I just wanted to say that I've been watching all my kids that's what we call it at work since I was in grammar school my babysitter watched it we watched it in college and now we watch it at work and Erica how old were you when you gave birth to Kendall well this is supposed to have happened just before the show began and when I started playing Erica in 1970 erica was a 15 year old high school girl and I don't know if you remember there were phone calls with my father and so on there were references made to that trip I made just before that so roughly around 14 but it's a little bit yes and I mean I'm sure that you've been watching it's it's quite a fascinating concept I'm not aware of this having been done before but Agnes is so ingenious and she came up with this story that was history but then Erica was keeping this secret all this time hmm because she was raped as a little girl really where did you get the necklace no that's been on that's been on the air Mona yet I couldn't have secret it if I wanted it tell us about the net take some paychecks away my own net yes the one I'm wearing now oh thank you my husband gave me my real husband gave me gave me this beautiful necklace isn't that right thank you this is for Julia bar I just wanted to ask you have one of the most level-headed characters on the show and I was wondering if you enjoy playing that part and if you find that your own personality is interjected at all in your characters god I don't know what um I like the character and turned like if I knew someone like her I would like her I had lots of fun when I started on the show because Brooke was a Hellraiser and that was a great time for me as far as there are some things i interject I'm a little less tightly laced than Brooke and a little Chris Michael and all these other people can attest to him I'm crazier than she is there are things that I'm great at organization tonight Julie is our champion gayglers she's got one with a sense of humors also working with her laughs you guys doing look I found their do are ready to to people here this this is a dual role waiting to happen I think because there is there is a Julia there's a great deal like Brooke grey level handed to heaven hello very level-headed and serious like Brooke and then there's just little girl what is best about 18 years drops over like 11 years drops away and season she's just the sweetest of all giggly thing you ever saw know where that comes from Victor so there's no in there at all then is that not at home I bet you'd love to blame on my way see I think it's to julia boras credit she has taken a level-headed terrific successful businesswoman and made her the most compelling part to to watch that that's wonderful Julia what you've done Phil I just want to make you short comment you know I'm from Europe and unfortunately back home in Europe Europe we don't have too many soap opera shows and since I came over here I just enjoy watching you guys and I just say you do a great job we'll be back in just a moment for a transcript of Donahue send three dollars to journal graphics one five three five crash street denver colorado 802 o3 or call 303 eight three one nine thousand to order a video cassette for only twenty four ninety five just call 1-800 EV our video remember when I used to be able to control this program yeah here is here are Susan and here okay I'll get you your eyes this is the cast of All My Children everybody's crazy about these people these very talented people here are Susan and David at work and Susan is a second role at Bryant Shore sick live I don't want you don't forgive me if I'm skeptical but first you don't Jack and now you've dumped a meat tree now it's occurred to me that your subconscious knows that I am the right man for you we just have to tickle it into your conscious mind that's it you stay away from me I mean at Adam I am through with you I am through with men I don't understand it why is it that all you males you think you can tell me how much you know that I want you I mean it is insanity from now on it's me it's just me it's just Erica Kane period no names tacked on the end no boyfriends no husbands hi Phil you know I'm really embarrassed because I think I'm the only one in the audience who has never watched this saying that but what I wanted this thing will be calling me Geraldo no what I wanted to say is I realized I wasted 23 years okay I want to show you what I wanted to let her know here's another one in the audience that never watched that show I'm sorry yeah yeah see I know what did she know that you don't know think of the fun you're missing she'll catch you up with all 23 years uh here's uh here's you watch it every day here's Julia here's Julia with the scene that I showed you the beginning of our program what this is great watch this couple I love you you liar it's true you don't love me you never loved me Edmund you used me never I was handy to you you woke up in the middle of the night covered with sweat I was there to soothe you back to sleep good old Brooke at 3 o'clock in the morning chasing away the shadows I was like your own personal nightlight wasn't it you know the problem was Night Lights Edmund people don't need him in the daytime to say I everyone I slap all the man I've ever slap you yet notice not me go I have six pondering having played since a 19-7 day on the original right um do you feel your personality has changed somewhat you interject your personality into the role does the role overtake you sometimes in personal life are you talking to me I've never had a problem with that I don't know why I mean I guess on some days I'm more like Erika than anybody would like me to be you know it all turns out right because Agnes Nixon writes that it all comes out right Erica gets to say and do all those things and nobody beats up on her too much you know I I've had people call me and in real life and say they tried those tricks on their boyfriends and they didn't work too well and you are well married I happen to know that having spent a good deal of time with you last year during the Emmys I mean he's always there for you he sure is he really is it was something to see and it's Adeiny where's that book should do it and we'll be back in just a month to be part of the audience please send a postcard to Donahue tickets care of NBC 30 Rockefeller Plaza New York New York 1 0 1 1 2 remember postcards only please Michael Michael can you hear me you are starting is the same way and then going to add one for this is an odd way production tomorrow probably production at the promenade theater on Broadway this is wrong turn at Longfellow turn Atlanta right now I'm doing it with Gary Marshall who is stepping in between Georgia Scott and Fritz Weaver very good Jamie I'm worth you're Jami Gertz her last week I owe her an apology if she's watching Jamie I love you I almost killed her the other night on stage by accident because I hadn't had because of the show I've been doing rehearsals for about a week on my lunch breaks going on the theatre doing that and coming back and then if you missed this wrong turn at lungfish now playing off Broadway starring Michael Michael Knight is surrounded by a lot of very talented people what has the physical scene in you knocked around yeah it was unfortunately was very very physical scene I was replacing Tony Danza plays a the character of Dominick disease is very tough sort of street person and I hadn't unfortunately had a enough rehearsal on at night I knocked her up against the wall and she hit it she hit her head in her elbow on a corner and we she to her own credit finished the show she did 25 minutes of a plate and thought she had a broken arm so she was - my hat's officer she's a real pro she's a very very sweet lady and she forgave me which was the which was great for me uh well there's no broken arm in this scene but Michael you and Susan are into this now boy talk about antagonism whoo yes here you are at worlds hearing here's Michael Nader at work with Susan Lucci all my Cho come any times did you call me arrogant don't don't pull don't pull strains Dimitri go easy with Erica I'd like to shove your inane advice right down your throat hey you're angry you're upset I you set
