Alternate Versions of the Avengers

[Music] what's up my comic comrades and happy holidays there's been a number of very different versions of the Avengers team over the years and with the new Avengers team slowly being assembled in the MCU we thought it'd be fun to explore some of the most iconic Avengers teams to ever suit up together in Marvel Comics I will emphasize there have been a lot of Avengers teams over their time in comics but we're going to try to highlight the best and most noteworthy so let's get into it shall we first and foremost we have the plain old Avengers The Avengers team all the other incarnations are based off of The Avengers first came together in Avengers 1 in September of 1963. they originally came together to fight the whole kuloki was manipulating the founding members are Iron Man Thor Ant-Man wasp and Hulk what a lot of people don't mention is that the WASP was the one who came up with calling the team The Avengers as Hulk joins the team he asks what are you calling yourselves wasp says it should be something colorful and dramatic like The Avengers or Ant-Man that interrupts sane or nothing that's it The Avengers Iron Man then says we'll fight together or separately if need be Hulk speaks up saying I pity the guy who tries to beat us with Thor finally saying will never be beaten for We Are The Avengers and just like that Earth's Mightiest Heroes The Avengers assembled for the very first time with that said let's start talking about some alternate versions of the team first up we have the Avengers West Coast or the West Coast Avengers simply put the West Coast Avengers are the Avengers of the West Coast based out of California to handle threats in a quicker Fashion on the west coast of the country the team has was formed when Vision who was the leader of the Avengers at the time told the government that a new Avengers team was needed in the west they were like you know what you're right it made Hawkeye the leader of this Branch off of The Avengers with their base of operations being in Los Angeles the team consisted of Mockingbird James Rhodes Iron Man Wonder Man Tigra the Shroud and Bill Foster well like all superhero teams the roster would constantly change next up we have the Great Lakes Avengers The Great Lakes Avengers are a group of comedic or goofy Heroes based out of Milwaukee who then moved to Michigan you all know Mr Immortal from She-Hulk well in the comic after trying to kill himself but failing he was like screw it I'm going to become a superhero at which point he joined like-minded people with offbeat powers such as doorman Big Bertha dinosaur and flat man forming the Great Lakes Avengers while forming the team they got the attention of leather boy a sexual deviant who just wanted a good time in the area but there you have it the Midwest greatest Defenders or Avengers moving along we have The Uncanny Avengers The Uncanny Avengers debuted in 2012 right after the Avengers vs X-Men Story the team basically consists of Half Moon Avengers and half mutants or X-Men hence uncanny Avengers but they are also known as The Avengers Unity Squad because of the unification of Marvel heroes and mutants as previously mentioned the team formed after Avengers vs X-Men as Captain America set out on a quest to form a sanctioned Avengers team that consisted of humans and mutants working together what were Marvel's Ultimate Universe so instead of being called The Avengers they were called the ultimates the team would come together for the first time in issue 2 of the first volume of the ultimates in 2002. this is The Avengers team the MCU pulled most of their inspiration from you see unlike the main Universe Avengers who form together on their own because of Loki's manipulation of the Hulk the ultimates were a government sponsored team put together by Nick Geary which again is basically how it went down in the first Avengers film The ultimates are even put together to take down the Hulk the team originally consisted of Captain America Iron Man giant man wasp Thor and Hulk but later would recruit Hawkeye Black Widow Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver to stop The chatardi Invasion so again the first Avengers film pulled heavily from the ultimates but keeping this Avengers train going we have the dark Avengers who I hope we see one day in the MCU the dark Avengers are a teammate and led by Norman Osborne who at the time was going by the moniker Iron Patriot and wearing the Iron Patriot armor during the dark Avengers rise in Marvel Comics Norman Osborne was also the head of shield and as the head of Shield he decided to create a new Avengers team a team of Avengers he controlled called the dark Avengers he would recruit Aries Sentry and former members of the Thunderbolts like Matt gargan Venom who's disguising himself as Spider-Man Bullseye as Hawkeye Moonstone as Miss Marvel and Dakin as Wolverine the team was pretty epic and they made their rise right after the events of secret Invasion so with the secret Invasion series coming to the MCU on Disney plus I hope this means potentially setting up the dark Avengers well let's move on to Secret Avengers The Secret Avengers are Black Ops version of The Avengers they were formed by Captain America AKA Steve Rogers during the heroic age After the Dark Reign and Siege events Hammer was dissolved the president then gave Steve Rogers Norman Osborne's old job as topped off Rogers decided to not continue hammer or bring back shield and instead created a Secret Avengers to entrust with the world security he even hand-picked the team himself which consisted of Moon Knight Ant-Man Black Widow and Sharon Carter but the team would also have such members as War Machine Beast Nova and Valkyrie like I said earlier superhero team rosters are always changing next we have a really popular version of The Avengers which is the new Avengers they formed after Avengers disassemble the team first formed during the first few issues of the 2005 New Avengers Title by Brian Michael Bendis essentially what happens is Electro caused a huge breakout at the super villain prison called The Raft at which point a team of New Avengers assembled to try to stop the breakout some of those said heroes are Captain America Iron Man Luke Cage Spider-Man and Sentry but the team would also add Spider Woman Wolverine and Echo as Ronin the whole breakout Arc from this run is really good and it's where we get the moment of century flying Carnage into space ripping him in half with his bare hands now we have a team that we're probably going to see in the MCU pretty soon here and that of course is the Young Avengers we all know the m CU has been slowly setting up the Young Avengers with their introductions of Kate Bishop Wiccan speed Eli Bradley and Cassie Lang anyway as the name suggests they are a group of young Heroes with abilities and powers that mirror those of the normal Avengers in the comics the team originally consisted of Iron Patriot Wiccan iron lad and Hulk link the team was put together by Iron lad in order to beat a future version of himself that was King the Conqueror but the team would later be disbanded until Kate Bishop would form a new Young Avengers which we actually get into a little bit in our history of Kate Bishop episode and you can find that right here then even more recently as part of Marvel Now kid Loki has formed a version of The Young Avengers consisting of Wiccan Kate Bishop Miss America hulkling and Novar they're essentially Marvel's version of the Teen Titans or young justice but moving on yet again we have the mighty Avengers first appearing in Mighty Avengers issue 1 in May of 2007 the team formed after the end of the Civil War storyline the mighty Avengers would be the first Avengers team under the government's 50 state initiative the team originally consisted of Century Wonder Man Miss Marvel Black Widow Ares wasp and of course Iron Man himself the problem is this all led to the secret Invasion event which didn't go so well so Tony only stock was replaced by Norman Osborne due to his failure to stop the Scrolls which would ultimately lead to the dark Avengers as mentioned earlier then we have an all-female Avengers team called a force which debuted as part of the 2015 Secret Wars crossover event this Avengers teamer A4 showed up as Protectors of matriarchal battle world of Arcadia which was a section of the Marvel Universe led by female Heroes the team's leader was She-Hulk and some of the other members of the team were Medusa dazzler Spider-Woman Captain Marvel wasp Black Widow ghost spider Rogue and the list goes on then next up is a team you knew had to be on here which is Alpha flight who's essentially the Canadian version of The Avengers Alpha flight is the top dog of a three-level program called Department H which resided within the Canadian Ministry of Defense the three levels were game of flight beta flight and of course Alpha flight Alpha flight is where top tier members of Department aids would be placed to go into the field and deal with any superhuman threats to the nation the team originally consisted of Guardian Aurora Sasquatch North Star salmon and Snowbird but Puck is also another popular member as is Vindicator even Wolverine has been a member of the team because he's the most popular Canadian superhero ever the team has been around since 1979 and is still one of the more popular superhero teams in all of comics now we can go on and on with different versions of the Avengers because quite frankly there is way too many for us to talk about but we're going to end with a personal favorite of mine and that would be the Avengers of the supernatural first appearing in uncanny Avengers issue 1 in April of 2014. I will say this team was extremely short-lived like this was the only issue they ever appeared in but the Avengers of the supernatural was just a dope concept essentially being the justice league dark of the Marvel Universe like just listen to this lineup Doctor Strange blade man thing satana manphibian and Ghost Rider the way they formed was pretty funny as well essentially Mojo just picked a bunch of Supernatural Heroes for his reality show then controlled them and had them go after the Avengers Unity division but let me tell you something The Adventures of the supernatural wreck shop on The Avengers Unity division I'm talking like they took out Captain America Wolverine wasp the Scarlet Witch Rogue and more all I'm saying is we need some more of this team in the future make it happen Marvel but that does it for our list of the top alternate versions of the Avengers what are your favorites did they make the list let us know down in the comments and that's going to bring today's episode to a close but if you enjoyed this episode check out this one right here and if you like all of our content like subscribe and comment it helps the channel out rather than that I'll see you next time when I talk about all things comics
