welcome to a new Harry's garage in today's car is the Alpine a110 you see behind me this ground-up fresh new sports car first saw it at Geneva 2017 I was there in the crowd as the covers came off and all these ingredients an iminium construction real lightweight sports car so I mean it shouldn't have a go in it and it's just arrived in the UK this is the premier edition as they term it the ultimate spec 52 thousand pounds were for there abouts great little car let's go have a closer look this car had quite a gestation as there as it was developed in its first two sort a joint venture with Caterham in that dropped him he came solely on a opine and what I love about it it's really is ground up fresh brand new aluminium construction and of the city eight the look of the historic a110 back in the 70s a really famous car that was doing really well in competition punching above its weight but using the Renault Gordini engines in this really lightweight fiberglass mid-engine car and this is its reinterpretation for the 2018 so the Front's you have that for I'd look that the original Alpina 72 had the a 110 and obviously on a bigger scale and then it's got that double bump on there on the roof as well lovely details all over this car really I love how the the brakes that blue picked out and the calipers that alppain script and even the diff VC in there have Alpine on them there's a lot of work gone into this car to get those sort of details out feeding on the wheel as well 18-inch wheels on this car so refreshing to see a reduction in about 205 40s at the front I think it's 235 at the rear much smaller and you know no options you can't option bigger wheels on it really refreshing to see and the reason it can run so much smaller wheels than you might expect is it's all an iminium and only weighs 11 103 kilos wet as it sits here a remarkable result and you get the sense of the light weight as soon as you open the door that aluminium door this or suddenly you brace it well that that should weigh more for some reason and I looked in here there's no petrol cap they designed it so it's got one of those things because that's lighter and there's there's details like that throughout the car you get a boot up the front have a quick look at that go take sir I sort of carry on bagger tried it it does take that and the squatty bag it's sort of you'd like it to be deeper but you got to remember the petrol tank is up the front then you get another little boot at the back this one has a little you open it up it pops it's a bit of a black hole in there but you get these blow your tires some oil and a safety pack I do call this this boot is a bit of a cooker actually it's a bit like when Reds on because it's right above the exhaust and things get quite warm in there now I'd like to show you the engine on this but it's a bit of a faff but I I will show the process of how you get to the engine on this car now okay to get do you have a look at the engine first thing you have to do bit strange is lift the cover and you think there just be a little button or sketch or something no there isn't that if you're wondering what I'm doing in a moment I will show you there are three screws you have to undo there we go that there's one I'm gonna take the other two out and then I'll pop the boy nearly there right three of those are out put those down here now this lifts up and there we go undo this the engine is hiding under there and these fans here always going on notice when when you come to a stop because that's the turbo just there and these also that's why it's so warm here and to the next day so I actually have to undo all of these screws here and I'm not gonna do that because that would just take too long but it yeah here's a bit of a faff that you want to check the oil or have a look at the engine on your LP what is cars all about though is the driving so let's take it outside now we met were a great interior just unique you just like no other car really it has this sort of mix of McLaren feel to it or something it feels much more growing up then I was expecting my first got in I love like this bridge this is sort of the McLaren esque look the push buttons to do the gears drive neutral reverse on their Start button in the middle and I'll press that we sort of need that there we go starts off in a normal mode as expect I should mention you get it's like a keyless go see if I can calm de this down a bit fan yeah keys go you don't really you have to use it just as long as actually a pocket you know what seems to work yeah this comfy seats these are the sort of Norton is these are fix but it's what they they move to fro mechanically they're adjustable wheel as well but the seats if you want to recline or slightly adjust them whereas little bolts and you can undo other than perhaps drop it back I'd like to drop it down one hole at the back on this one but I haven't got round to it it's not our end of world so yes started on the button starting normal I go to drive and it comes up normal I can press sport because I can't help it and immediately I'll get a different - layout and off we go these is that electric handbrake probably just heard that ease off and if quality gets on with business now as ever I'm gonna take it out of here out the village and any oh joy me on the way to some of my favorite bits of road and you don't have to travel very far in this car to feel that lightness immediately 20 meters of the cars no it's very peculiar no it's just pickup subconsciously just sort of there's a lightness to this car then you don't know when he get you haven't experienced did for quite a while and I'm very grateful turf Evo magazine who did a recent rib test with this Caitlyn and the TT RS and they weighed the cars and as I at the beginning it was 1103 kilos this car was declared out they waited and they got it at a thousand and ninety-four kilo so remarkably lighter 17 kilos nine kilos lighter than the declared way to fully feel ready to test they also way the cleamen and that actually when they tested it on the 20-inch wheels etc was 14 49 kilos of 355 kilos heavier than this and the Audi TT well that was city AZ is owned by basically four hundred kilos heavier than mr. royalty that's knocking the door walk 3540 percent heavier and that's why as soon as you go to this car Susie throw down the road phagon I made something very different the only car that saw it gets close to it is somewhat like the Lotus of lys and just nibbles either side of 900 kilos but the Exige is a bit heavier than this so it's right down there with a super lightweight cars especially for 2018 or the legislation that goes with it and how you sense that is the steer in this light but it's pretty and there's no sort of mass when we get onto us or Diamond Road that's where you you tell again there's another layer and it means that the damp innocents are stiff the spring innocent crisis stiff but it's reasonably firm but it's nothing like it's forever say that Audi r8 I had in the other day that was a right pain just in normal running this you could quite happily live with it all the time as that was its firm sports car fur but no more than that I want to select annual I just press drive again and I'm in full manual mode so from the big overtaking that here we go 7-speed DCT gearbox in it quick changes not crazy Ferrari 488 mr. quick but plenty quick enough and nicely chosen ratios as well I did slow down again I'm come down to second okay if I go second rate it is about 55 just just 70 something it was sniffing to sleep at the tone but anyway nicely geared when I asked an engineer about the gearing on because it was really nice short chain Assault gear annoyances yes we actually had a unique cluster of gears made for this car it's gruesome when we tried the cameras us or reference point what they couldn't get over is you have to go so fast to hit the sweet spot of the car are you again waiting whicker's Bipa soapbox again not gearing on all pulses just means you're going crazy quick if you want to enjoy the higher reps not selling this car it all happens you know you're playing around the 2nd 3rd all the time on a normal Road which is great fun just makes it more - having more fun than Super Stretch the gear then worrying about your license it also means that the 60 time of seconds I think it is to 6662 Bosnia is slightly compromised because they shot a change in there's got to changes on the way their other car companies might have just strength second so they get better no to six attack but not selling here this car was focus was all off the driving topple city figures there we go but it's quite meaty as well with that all its 320 meters this car maths was it 236 something expert six so funny when I looked at it and looked at it Geneva for 50,000 248 was bad its father a bunny for 248 horsepower yeah when I'm driven in live do it for a week not worried about it it feels feisty quick and you can again Evette magazine figured this car and he was just a smidge over 10 seconds 200 miles an hour well that is the speed of Irv Porsche 996 turbo 10 seconds just 200 bars now he's plenty quick enough wicked cars out there but that fear was in real world plenty quick enough to drive but as they sort of road its or pixels on after the disappointment at the Alfa 4c they had all the agreements or anything jumped in under these a bit a road and it all fell apart this one just gets better it just has a delicacy of a feel that goads you into driving it harder I've got them traffic traffic patrol set at the moment I'll keep forgetting to turn it off but I never see a sort of flashing light it just is with you all the way very nice down here that was the surprise over the week opportunities this is a very easy card with Lisa's saw hard work I think it's like a Bosch Caterham nothing wrong with him but they are sort of extreme and just gave clamoring in over that cell and the roller briefing this feels much closer to Taemin normal access is fine take mrs. empathy now this really liked it didn't notice what it has but it just feels pleased and usable this is really nice for something so dynamic car many waves favorite bits around it's just can't help but enjoy yourself down here but as you're flicking through the gears with grown-up paddles the steering is the big compression there because it is so light it just has not the maps to deal with I was a bit disappointed it didn't have it down to down plus no it's perfectly judge damping on this I'm not wishing I had a sport button and firm it up or anything like that feels terrific down here and not overly stiff so it's a bit of roll in the corners he set it up a bit of diamond the brakes of gate the brainy dimension great pedal comes back to that weight it hasn't got a lot of weight to stop so I think of things I don't like on this car is quite hard I don't like the visibility out the back it's almost got a contrast like invisibility from the rear windscreen system or the rear squeezies have cut down and cut the top off you've got a tiny little letterbox look out at the back what else I wish it wasn't 50 mm but having a little bit I can see why it's 50 mm at ease I suppose if this LP name is he actually gonna translate into big sales do how many people remember back to 1972 I really hope they do but I just wonder if that's the best name this had a Porsche badge on it and I think it would absolutely fly but it isn't a criticism just an observation on the plus-side world where do you start these that the dynamics of it the freshness the newness of it the way that's so focused on that weight and how that weight has then been translated to a glorious car to drive man to live with and the fact is sort of usable with normal means I will use this as an everyday cover as well as my absorb weekend's play things sports car I love the before song is really well judged I do or how it does crazy mpg and therefore we got big brains and it's like feels like cheating the system you know to get in the mid-30s on my a sports car that's speed 3 255 and get - to our Kumar's air in 10 seconds and still being bit 30s how good's that so yeah lots to like about this car I just hope it's a commercial success for Albie because boy
