to talk about it look Hank it's official okay my parents have retired and sailed off to their dream destination and I'm almost finished wrapping up business with the new owners I still don't see why you don't want to take over well first my parents need their nest egg to travel and second third and fourth I have travel dreams of my own we'll take it from this old Sea Dog I've sailed all over the world nothing compares to what we have right here in other sport well I'll take that under advisement wise man well this wise man is going to get this fishing batter before the new growl gets Restless but I still want to talk to you about the Handover details you know and introduce you to the new manager I don't like Allison oh perfect timing ah can I get a rain check I promise I'll make nice with afternoon and then that way we'd actually be able to get more boats out 25 Seasons Roger that's how long I've been launching boats okay well I'm supposed to be overseeing all of that now Daniella so all I'm saying is that if we're a little bit more efficient we can half the amount of time for the same amount of boats she has been putting boats in and out of dry dock for years okay she takes the she's been here as long as I have and she's one of my favorites well good because she belongs to some very important people mm-hmm yeah really so so sick like her you know just some everything in my program guilty but hey don't let me interrupt your work I'm anxious to get that boat out on the water I've been so busy lately being important and all Mr Cartwright we uh we unfortunately have not been able to get your boat in the water just yet we didn't know they were going to be so so early yeah you know and I I didn't mean that how it sounded you know you know it's just it's just most people you know if they're not using their boat after a while they they sell it so right yeah [Music] uh I'm Roger I'm the new manager here this is Allison um she's the outgoing manager nice to meet you outgoing Allison yeah I'm just part of the old management yeah we were tired [Music] well I gotta say you look great for your age oh no no not me no no no parents retired no no not me far from it you know I'm actually going to crew a boat that's crossing the Atlantic this summer it starts in the uh in Florida and then over to the uh the Caribbean and into the the Mediterranean the Atlantic so but uh you know enough about me let's get you signed off in the office right Roger Roger uh like she's blessed yeah great day so you're both been the subject of myth around here for a long time uh-oh a good one or a tragic one puzzling one so uh what brings you back are these official bow launch questions oh I guess I'm just curious I watched that boat sit Lonely at the dock for years I always wondered why nobody ever came that is strange the car rides aren't typically so neglectful guess if you knew my parents you'd see the humor in that they have more vacation homes than they can remember more often than not they go unused but I have a lot of fond memories of this place from when I was a kid so thought I'd spend some time here this summer maybe try staying in one place a little while you know no I know all about that I've been in otters Port since I was 10 years old my parents fell in love with the marina when we came here on a family vacation it was for sale and so they bought it and I've been here ever since that sounds like paradise yeah it was great I do love this place it's just nothing compares to the feeling I get at the glimpse of Open Water it's like taking a big breath [Music] and I'm looking forward to pulling up anchor and getting out on the ocean Yeah you mentioned that when do you leave three weeks I leave the day after I hand over the marina well I hope maybe because of the Marlo Lounge everyone goes and everyone talks maybe we'll see you there sometime on weekends or anytime we've got the Summers off Cindy's an English professor and I teach coding sweet it's a perk but I do a lot of off-duty troubleshooting around here The Accidental it guy mostly I just turned things off and back on again usually fixes it hey actually you know what uh remind me next time I see you to lender my big book of sailors knots it's a great way to impress the ladies sounds like a deal thanks you got it [Music] you should really get rid of all this clutter why free some of my dad's entries from when I was a kid anything good you know surprising a little bit my parents used to be fun well there's a lot of people you remember your parents being fun around here it's Marina it's like a fishbowl well I've been swimming with sharks for years so Fishbowl sounds good to me oh sounds intense so what are you hiding away from it all up here I'd like to think not no just need a little distance to gain perspective on things and you chose honorsport to do that that's the last place I remember feeling the ground firmly under my feet would just see wait till you get out on the water [Music] okay let's run this again you have actually given up a job running an entire Marina a captain so to speak to become a down the ranks worker on an Atlantic Crossing it's not as bad as it sounds Heaven bedroom yacht we are moving to the Mediterranean for the family over the winter season okay so sleeping in luxurious State rooms no no I'll be in the Autumn births in the crew quarters well your adventure sounds like an old historical novel to me sounds very down Market to me hon we all enjoy our boats and the water and I'm sure Allison knows her own mind thank you Adam you know it is it is my kind of fun so have you picked a return date yet uh never thanks you know it's my dream to to cross the Atlantic you know as many places as I can well you have no strings keeping no I'll talk to Roger you know that we're going to have to handle our own problems once you go of course I just I want to make things as smooth as possible in the meantime Allison you know your parents and I are so grateful that you stayed for the Handover get it off on the right track I'm happy to no I'll be in the Mediterranean before the end of the summer so I'll have plenty of boat time net and I am so excited for you but being a yachty you know life is pretty stressful in those 60 meter Crews don't play concern mother figure now it's every sailor's dream to cross the ocean it was yours once too remember believe me I know the feeling [Music] when I was little parents and I always spent months at sea it's nothing but the open Horizon in front of us [Music] what's that I feel like I've been at work for forever you can start using forever when you reach my age and only then [Music] uh do you remember a family from way back the cartwrights I'm better with both names than people names the All Aboard says that the owners are John and Helen the all aboard so they finally came back to claimer after all these years 10. but it it seems It's just their son Joel Joel yeah I remember him shy kid real bookworm his sister was more going weird I don't remember ever meeting them well maybe they always came in July when you're at camp could be I never miss a summer one more thing about crewing on a yacht is that it isn't the easiest place to find love tiny pond to choose from well good thing there'll be plenty of fish in the Mediterranean Sea when I get there [Music] Jen took it heaven forbid you two should talk on the phone live in person we talk she hired my replacement remember listen I'm so sorry for all this family talk I'm just confused and so is his mother or he spends his days on an old boat instead of running the Chicago office okay I asked you to come to talk about the marina Allison's been facilitating the change in ownership and she's got some great input of course of course I looked at the numbers on the flight in you guys were in trouble oh um I um it has nothing to do with Allison she's trying to tell Roger how to make it work but he's following waterway's protocols and they just don't fit into the previous business model here which was successful right thanks what was the old business model well um we're the local touch Community focused and geared towards long-term repeat clients sounds great unsustainable in this economy no there are plenty of businesses that do well on the water put up condos condos no dad you can't be flippant about this it's affecting people's lives what people Allison's friends for one but Alison you're the reason for the sale if you wanted to run your family business we wouldn't even be here [Music] so we were going to wait until the spring but with these new fuel fees we might as well leave early so I went ahead and I booked the fall cruise to Alaska we can't even afford to enjoy our own waterways please don't say that word I didn't want to tell you this Allison but I can't avoid it any longer Roger told me they're considering reimagining Marlow Lounge into some self-serve cafeteria next summer I can't wait around to see if that's true so I took another job offer already I'm so sorry of it me too I really love it here but my son is starting College in a few years and I just need the job security I understand this entire transition is just turning into a nightmare I mean waterways is just this cost cutting machine that just keeps stealing blow after blow no that's not your worry you'll be gone soon enough she's right just focus on the things you can control around here like bringing back the better coffee I'll just add that to the complaints list I'm gonna go to bed hard to get here you know I headed up the marina with my own crew got the respect that I deserve [Music] till now no I'm sorry I can't watch this place for you after you go I wish it wasn't the case never even asked me why I came here I was at waterway's head office in the city but my wife Jenny has asthma or doctors suggested we move fresh air and so I took the job but now everything is falling apart and everything I try to do to stand it back up backfires and I've got an outgoing manager who resents me and I have no idea how to get through to her [Music] [Music] why didn't you tell me first I think we need to get a quote on how much it'll cost to bring Hanks up to code I already got three quotes it's gonna be too expensive the electrical hasn't been done in 40 years well we'll just had to show me a little crayfish that you found on the shoreline but I was just coming around the corner with a huge tray of cut potatoes you slammed into me that was that a mess you're about 11 I guess but then you helped me clean up in fact you stayed until every last bit of potatoes back in the bin I was impressed and I told you I said Ally now I know for sure that you're a good person you helped me when I was in trouble I didn't want to accept this gift [Music] this also means that now you'll have a reason to come back home and visit you'll always be home to me would you like kid I'm London or some exotic Locale with your name on it I know you had a certain opinion of me when I first got here but I'm I'm different now [Music] you were a big part of that change I've made my commitments this this been lovely but as of tomorrow we'll both be on different parts of the world don't understand why I need to experience something something new to be out there it's me every time I get a glimpse of the Open Water my heart opens with it and ocean comes flooding in [Music] feeling unlike any other I think I know [Music] [Music] dad is mom there with you there's something I need to ask you to [Music] I feel crazy mixed up with emotions right now you know ever since I was a kid I wanted to get out of the ocean and experiences and Adventures but selling the marina made me realize that I already had that right here when I was 23 I saw a posting one day from a group of young people looking for a fourth crew member on a catamaran heading south [Music] you know and I immediately knew I wanted to go so I called them up I didn't tell anybody and when the day came to set sail I took a shift with my dad and I never showed up [Music] you told me that story and I don't want that to happen to me but the part of the story that I didn't tell you is that summer I met Al and we had 28 wonderful years together full of its own Adventure I guess what I'm trying to tell you is that I feel I might have offloaded my own regrets onto you when you have your own life to live my love for the ocean started long before I came to watersport and you know your heart best All That I Can Say then is when life hands you the opportunity [Music] foreign [Music] Suits You thank you Allison everything is going in the right direction now thanks to you I was a joint effort well I'm off I
