today we once again rank all 32 nfl owners let's see how they're doing in comparison the last year [Music] with the 2021 nfl season drawn closer it's time for us to dish out our annual rankings for the league's 32 owners there's been lots of movement from last year's rankings so let's dive right into it number 32 dan snyder washington football team yes washington was a feel-good story by winning the nfc east with the inspirational efforts of alex smith and ron rivera but make no mistake snyder is far and away the nfl's worst owner let's not forget all the controversy and disturbing incidents that have come to light under his ownership the team has been mostly awful over his two decades at the helm with only two playoff wins and approximately 1 million coaching changes and 1 billion wasted in free agency number 31 mcnair family houston texans texans ownership gave bill o'brien all the power and it only led to disastrous results the deandre hopkins and laramie tunsil trades were disastrous and now the franchise quarterback wants to leave town o'brien was finally fired during the 2020 season but by then the damage had already been done this franchise is in disarray and it starts with the mcnair family's decision making number 30 shahid khan jacksonville jaguars khan is mostly hands off and is certainly willing to open up his wallets for top free agents that much is admirable but the jaguar's record under his ownership isn't up for debate they're 39 and 105 since he took over in 2012. doug marone and david caldwell were given way too much time to run the show will the urban meyer hiring work out we'll find out soon enough number 29 woody and chris johnson new york jets the jets now own the longest nfl playoff drought having last qualified in 2010. the owners signed the checks on pricey free agents that perform below expectations they get too involved in personnel decision and it never ends well what part can we say robert salah and zack wilson are in charge of the next attempted reboot in the big apple let's see how this one plays out number 28 mike brown cincinnati bengals the bengals have now missed the playoffs in five consecutive seasons brown was way too patient with marvin lewis could he be making the same mistake with zach taylor brown is usually cheap and hasn't been willing to spend the big bucks in free agency over the years to field a contender number 27 sheila ford hamp detroit lions martha firestone ford handed ownership over to sheila fordham before the 2020 season the latter did what her mother wouldn't do a year earlier fire matt patricia and bob quinn ford hamp is obviously new at the ownership thing major bonus points for committing to a much-needed full-scale rebuild with a brand new front office and coaching staff number 26 jimmy and d haslem cleveland browns we can't let the brown's thrilling 2020 season overshadow the first eight years of the haslem family's ownership it was awful a 0-16 season all those head coach gm and quarterback changes yikes nice to see the browns finally winning again the fans deserve it but it also took the haslems long enough to field a competitive club once and for all number 25 michael j bidwell arizona cardinals the future is certainly promising for the cardinals who have a world-class star and kyler murray leading the way bidwell became the chairman when his father long-time owner bill passed away in 2019. so far michael has been relatively hands-off while willingly spending the big bucks for the likes of j.j watt and deandre hopkins i'm sure cardinals fans aren't complaining about his work thus far number 24 mark davis las vegas raiders davis is trying to build a winner he certainly isn't cheap just look at the 100 million dollar contract he gave john gruden but the raiders haven't really made much progress under gruden davis put all his eggs in that one basket and we're still awaiting the results until they come he'll be near the bottom when it comes to ranking the nfl owners number 23 hat bowling estate denver broncos the late pat bolin had a reputation as one of the top owners in professional sports the broncos won three super bowls under his guidance team president and ceo john ellis currently controls the team bolin's children are in an unfortunate dispute over ownership of the team the broncos have now endured four straight losing seasons and five consecutive non-playoff seasons the issues must be addressed and winning must commence if denver ownership is to move up on this list number 22 david tepper carolina panthers gotta admire tepper's willingness to be aggressive in terms of spending and personnel hires the panthers needed to retool once he took over his owner and the future looks promising but again the results just aren't there yet carolina has to start winning if tepper is gonna gain more respect number 21 dean spanos los angeles chargers spanish's decision to relocate the franchise from san diego to la has made him an enemy among many chargers fans in terms of his actual performance as an owner however it could be worse spanos at least opens up his wallet when he has to and the chargers are never boring with justin herbert keenan allen and joey bosa rounding out an elite core the chargers could soon be among the nfl's elite again number 20 arthur blank atlanta falcons the falcons have certainly fared better ever since blank took over as the owner but his decision to keep dan quinn and thomas dimitrov two years too long has set this franchise back and how about their decision to keep matt ryan but trade julio jones what's the plan here blank no doubt wants to win but he's tried the shortcut route way too many times and it has put the falcons in a tough spot at some point the man is going to have to call for a full-on rebuild number 19 virginia hollis mccaskey chicago bears mccaskey is both the nfl's oldest and longest tenured owner she sits back and happily lets the front office and coaches do their job as any good owner should sure the franchise hasn't won a whole lot in the 21st century but it could also be a lot worse matt nagy and ryan pace have guided this team to two playoff births in three years some fan bases would die for that type of success but bears fans obviously want more number 18 john mara and steve tisch new york giants the giants have won two super bowls under mary and tish that alone keeps him below the bottom third of the rankings but the team has made the postseason only once since 2012. mera and tisch haven't done their best when it comes to gm and coaching hires it's nice that they spend big money when they have to and all but the giants tend to strike out far more often than not with big contracts the future is looking bright under joe judge though number 17 stephen ross miami dolphins ross hit a home run when he hired brian flores to replace adam gases head coach and gm chris greer has done a remarkable job in piecing together a future super bowl contender ross may not be the most popular owner among his own fan base that's normally the case when your team is mired in perennial mediocrity but at least there's a foundation in place and better days are ahead for this football team number 16 jerry jones dallas cowboys jones is very tough to rank he has three super bowls sure though they all came in the 90s he has an excellent draft record as the gm but then again the lack of playoff success is concerning jones kept jason garrett for way too long and that set the franchise back for so many years then he went and hired mike mccarthy who doesn't appear to be qualified for the position either the pieces are in place for dallas to contend but does jerry have the right coaching staff in place that's the big question number 15 ziggy wilf minnesota vikings wilf got the vikings a beautiful new stadium that obviously counts for something the team has been good enough to compete but not good enough to vie for a super bowl under wilf you can argue that he's given way too many chances to the rick spielman mike zimmer regime but the vikings have eight winning seasons under wilf's ownership which began in 2005 plus two eight and eight seasons trust us vikings fans you don't have it that bad number fourteen jeffrey lurie philadelphia eagles lurie was fifth on our list last year but we had to drop him because of the dismal 2020 season philly had his handling of the relationship between doug peterson carson wentz and howie roseman has put the franchise in a state of disarray yeah the eagles are just 40 years removed from a super bowl that was largely thanks to lurie staying hands off but he's gotten way too involved in the decision making as of late and it has the franchise moving in the wrong direction number 13. jody allen seattle seahawks jody allen took over as a seahawks owner following the passing of her brother paul in 2018. similar to what paul did jody tends to avoid the spotlight happily sitting back and letting gm john schneider and coach pete carroll run the show which is smart because they're among the best in the business number 12. terry and kim pakula buffalo bills the pagulas haven't enjoyed much success as owner of the buffalo sabres by far the nhl's most dysfunctional franchise but buffalo sports fans have to be pleased with their work as the bill's owners the team has quickly turned a corner under brandon bean and sean mcdermott rising to the top of the league rankings the pagulas have no problem pulling out their giant checkbooks when needed and they don't get too involved in the decision-making process letting bean and mcdermott run the show has paid dividends perhaps the pagulas will be the ones who finally helped bring buffalo a major sports championship number 11 stan kroenke los angeles chargers the rams recorded losing seasons in each of cronky's first seven years as the owner but the franchise has fared much better since relocating to los angeles the rams have recorded four straight winning seasons three playoff births and an nfc championship banner gronki was smart to give gm les sneed all the time in the world to build up a contender the sean mcvay hiring was a grand slam as well this team is in good hands under cronkite number 10 green bay packers incorporated green bay packers the storied franchise is the only publicly owned nfl team mark murphy serves as the team ceo and president the packers fall a bit in this year's rankings because of the aaron rodgers drama way to make your franchise qb unhappy and wanting to leave town murphy and gm brian gudekunst have mishandled this situation entirely and if rogers gets traded it'll set the franchise back for a long time number 9 amy adam strunk tennessee titans bud adams children took over the franchise following his passing in 2013. amy adams strunk serves as the controlling owner and has she ever been a blessing for tennessee strunk has overseen the tennessee team that has recorded five straight winning seasons including three playoff berths and afc south division title and a trip to the 2019 afc championship game strunk nicknamed mom is well liked by the titans fans and for good reason she's helped this team become a winner forming a fun-loving culture under mike frable and jon robinson number 8 york family san francisco 49ers the 49ers only have one winning season dating back to 2014 but the foundation is set in stone the york family found the perfect duo to steer the ship in gm john lynch and head coach kyle shanahan they've crafted one of the league's deepest rosters and the 49ers should contend for many years to come all the yorks have to do is keep letting lynch and shanahan do their thing without getting too involved in the process number 7 glazer family tampa bay buccaneers the glazers move way up here and we needn't really explain why they recruited tom brady who then recruited rob gronkowski and it led them to the franchise's second super bowl championship before 2020 the glazers were widely viewed as some of the worst nfl owners but lanning brady changed everything and hey this franchise has won two super bowls since the glazers took over in 1995 pretty pretty good number six jim irsay indianapolis colts the cults have a long winning history under irsay he's not the biggest spender by any means but the guy knows how to hire ryan grigson and chuck pagano restored relevance into this franchise for three years irsay struck gold when he replaced them with chris ballard and frank reich two of the league's absolute best in their respective positions irsay doesn't have to do much because he trusts the guys he hires to run the show number 5 gail benson new orleans saints mrs benson took over as the owner of the saints and the nba pelicans following the passing of her husband tom in 2018. like most of the nfl's top owners benson stays away from the decision making allowing mickey loomis and sean payton to make the calls number four steve bisciotti baltimore ravens bishotti made the gutsy call to fire the well-respected and beloved brian bilic replacing him with harbaugh in 2008 10 winning seasons three afc title game appearances and a super bowl 47 championship later and i think we can all agree that he made the right move number three clark hunt kansas city chiefs hunt sure hit the jackpot when he hired andy reed and john dorsey in 2013. casey hasn't had a losing season since and they have emerged as the nfl's cream of the crop under patrick mahomes parting ways with dorsey stunned many in 2017 but hey they became a super bowl winner under brett veach any well-managed franchise need smart ownership in kansas city has that number two rooney family pittsburgh steelers the steelers have had three coaches since 1969 and gm kim and colbert has led the front office since 2000. that stability isn't possible without excellent ownership which the rooney family proudly presents no wonder this team hasn't had a losing season since 2003. not to mention there are six super bowl titles number one robert kraft new england patriots one losing season isn't going to change our minds as far as team performance goes nobody in the nfl does it better than craft he saved the team from relocating to hartford and turned them into a winner even before bill belichick and tom brady arrived kraft just signs the checks and lets bill handle the business it's only led to six super bowls in 20 years of unprecedented dominance he is the golden standard of nfl ownership no questions asked but who do you
