Good afternoon, we are already 900,000!!!! And to celebrate it together, I wanted to do a song for you that you've asked me a lot for and that makes me cry because it's beautiful, like Alfonsina y el Mar. This song is actually a zamba. The zamba is an Argentine dance that is danced in pairs and that actually comes from the zamacueca, a Peruvian dance that originated in the 18th century. The zamba usually has a rhythm of 6 by 8 although musicians like Juan Falú assure that it has a mixed rhythm; that is to say, that it has a base of 3 by 4 and the melody goes in 6 by 8. It is composed by the Argentine pianist Ariel Ramírez and the writer and poet Félix Luna. And it was premiered by Mercedes Sosa in 1969 in her album Mujeres Argentinas. He popularized it internationally. This zamba is a tribute to one of the greatest poets in history, Alfonsina Storni. Alfonsina wrote the most beautiful poems with extraordinary strength. At that time, she suffered rejection and disdain from her peers just for being a woman. Many considered her inferior despite having shown that she was much better than them. They say that he suffered many depressions, that his friend Horacio Quiroga took his own life and this plunged him into a very deep well. She also had to live as a single mother with all the difficulties that this entails and she was also diagnosed with breast cancer. With all that physical pain due to her illness and the operations she underwent, she took her own life in Mar del Plata in 1938. Hence the title of this zamba: Alfonsina y el Mar. And she secretly said goodbye to her loved ones through letters and a poem that he wrote 3 days before he died called Voy a dormir, which Félix Luna, the lyricist of Alfonsina y el mar, adapted it to the last stanza, thus leaving his own words in this zamba. This song has a very special sound, since it reaches very deep bass when talking about the depths of the sea, like when he says The song that the conch sings at the bottom of the dark sea... And then, in addition, it has some chromaticisms, which It is when he advances by semitones at the end of the chorus, when he says And you go there like in dreams, asleep, Alfonsina, dressed as a sea... that is symbolizing that lullaby, that rocking of the waves that her body is carrying. Thank God, today there are many more ways to treat physical and mental illnesses and with this beautiful but sad message I want to tell you that you always have to look at the positive side of things, that life gives us many reasons to smile, to to enjoy and to be happy, and that there is no giving up. I hope you like my version and my arrangement. Thank you very much for watching. Through the soft sand that the sea licks Your small footprint no longer returns A path of sorrow and silence alone It reached the deep water A path only of silent sorrows reached Even the foam God knows what anguish accompanied you What old pains your voice silenced To lie down lulled to sleep in the song of the seashells The song that the shell sings at the bottom of the dark sea You leave Alfonsina with your loneliness What new poems did you go looking for? An ancient voice of wind and salt It haunts your soul and is carrying it And you go there as if asleep in a dream, Alfonsina, dressed in the sea Five little mermaids will take you Along paths of seaweed and coral And phosphorescent sea horses will make a round your side And the inhabitants of the water are going to play Soon by your side Lower the lamp a little more Let me sleep, nurse, in peace And if he calls, don't tell him that I'm here Tell him that Alfonsina is not coming back And if he calls, never tell him that I am Say I've gone You're leaving Alfonsina with your loneliness What new poems did you go looking for? An ancient voice of wind and salt It requires your soul and is carrying it And you go there as if in a dream asleep, Alfonsina, dressed as a sea
