another Masterpiece and we still have two months to go in 2023 leave some of these insanely good games for 2024 man otherwise we're all going to get spoiled I honestly can't remember another year that had this many good games Allen wake 2 might be the best looking of the bunch there's good reason that it's not on the older generation Xbox One and PS4 visually the game really takes things to the next level and it doesn't hurt that the game play the story the Polish they deliver here is really good as well it's not just the environments and the Shadows the lighting that looks really good even the character models are the best I've seen in a game the way the characters move the gestures they make when talking it feels more like a movie and less like a game so let's look at how this masterpiece runs on the three consoles the Xbox series s versus series X versus PlayStation 5 in terms of game size the game's about 77 GB on the series snx and 81 GB B on the PS5 loading times are interesting here going from dashboard to continuing the game takes about 19 seconds on the series s and series X PlayStation 5 though is a lot slower taking 27 seconds but these results are a little misleading because Xbox actually skips all the developer logos I'm not sure if there was some sort of agreement between Microsoft and epic games to do this but it did speed up the loadings on the Xbox Xbox of course also has quick resume and PS5 has activity cards that work with this game quick resume does save another few seconds from the series s and series X loading time but activity cards I mean getting back into the game using that feature still takes about the same amount of time once you're in the game there's essentially no loading times the transitions between the missions the chapters the game playay and cinematics everything is just seamless and works really well let's not talk about the graphics and resolution all three consoles have the 30fps quality mode which in fact might be the way to play based on what a remedy is recommending Series S renders quality mode at about 850p Native resolution and then outputs it at 1440p the more powerful series X and PS5 render quality mode at about 1270p Native and then output it at 4K you can clearly see the difference here between the series s versus a more powerful X and PS5 note that for me the series X and PS5 do look identical in quality mode now there's also performance mode but only on the series X and PS5 the less powerful Series S does not get performance mode performance mode targets 60 frames per second but does render the game at a lower 850p resolution and then outputs it at 1440p now it's not simply the resolution that gets scaled down in performance mode there's also a lot lot less detail in the environments and the graphics this comparison here is the perfect example where you can see the lower amount of grass and leaves on the ground here I also compared the series X quality mode to the series X's performance mode and based on this comparison here they both look identical so in a way the SI s's 30fps quality mode is basically looking identical to the series X's 60fps performance mode now let's talk about the performance and the frames per second on the series s the performance is solid 30 FPS in quality mode it's locked to that 30 at almost all times I didn't see any performance issues or any drops while playing after seeing the minimum PC specs I was a little worried that the series s might struggle with this game but the FSR resolution scaling works wonders here allowing Series S owners to fully enjoy this game the series X and PS5 also run quality mode really well they're both locked to 30 FPS from the analysis I did now if you do want to be super picky here the PS5 dropped a single frame right here whereas the series X did not but I wouldn't place too much emphasis on that rare case now let's talk about performance mode on the series X and PlayStation 5 the series X runs performance mode at a solid 60 frames per second I analyzed about an hour of footage on the series X and couldn't find a single drop during the game gamepl PlayStation 5 also does well in the 60fps performance mode on PS5 though I was able to find a few spots even early in the game where you get a couple of frame drops like I'm showing on the screen right here but I mean while playing the game this was barely noticeable so I mean don't let this discourage you from getting the game on PS5 it runs almost just as well in fact the game runs really well on all three consoles and you can't really go wrong with either one between the two modes on the series X and PS5 even the cinematics I'm actually not sure if they're cinematics they look to be liveaction scenes because they do also get rendered at the crack frames per second and settings so all the story cinematics in performance mode are in fact 60 frames per second job well done for remedy on releasing a relatively polished product now I will say this I did run into a couple of bugs I kept running into this sound bug on the Xbox where it just wouldn't have any sound during game play and to solve that I would sometimes it would just come back on by itself or I would have to kind of reload and restart that's something I actually didn't see on the PS5 on Xbox I also run into a bug where I kept getting locked in the mind place and just couldn't get out and continue the game both times I pretty much had to reload the save to progress further I'm also hearing about another bug that's preventing some people from actually completing the game it's it's towards the end of the game so when I say relatively polished that's what I mean there are some bugs but hopefully those can get fixed in the next couple of days with some quick patches one thing to note is that the PlayStation 5 does have dual sense controller functionality with that you get the advanced heptic and adaptive triggers I honestly think for a horror game like Allen wake 2 that does add to the immersion of the game even PC players can connect a dual sense controller and experience those features now for the rest of the video I have some more side by side comparisons and a bit more FPS test footage on each console so check that outr [ __ ] volcanic [Music] gas night then we heard shooting we ran into these psychos and deer masks they were tearing into the naked guy with knives like some kind of SE and it cult then we bolted and called the cops the pay phone was ringing somehow I knew the call was for me Knight's motorcycle club we're busy building the uh floats for deer Fest don't go peeking though you know we're saving the big reveal [Music] for yes
