Aidan O'Connell Preseason Week 1 Analysis

hi everybody Welcome to the QB school I am jto Sullivan today we are looking at Aiden O'Connell first ever time on the channel tried to get Purdue film couldn't do it this is the debut let's get it into it Aiden O'Connell everybody asking for this video never seen him play before try to get Purdue video just couldn't do it I'm telling you he went to work Josh McDaniels and Company on the crossers and the overs versus Middlefield closed open up the middle of the field 49ers defense holy moly really nice job though not gonna apologize for him finding ways to be able to hit these crossers runaways versus Middlefield closed really nice base as well but what I'm talking about and I might as well draw it up one time because we're going to see it so many different ways but right here we're going to take this thing and we're just gonna run away and so when I say Middlefield closed safety in the middle of the field and it really doesn't matter if it's Zone match man you've got all this space it's a tough ass to allow that guy to run with you all the way across the field but he does a great job I really was impressed with his base his Poise his accuracy his consistency but they go to work I love a little Josh McDaniels finding a little crack in the armor and just exploiting that sucker all game great bass nice throw right on him let's go third and one third and one and we're dialing it up like this I love it locked in runaway nice space from the wide receiver there right on it next one here let's just run it back right outside the red area a little eye formation hit the tight end on the Crosser they try to match the middle linebacker to run the across with the tight end Crosser that's a tough ask 445 is going to struggle with that anybody's going to struggle with that watch that tight end run across under over go and again really nice job from Ian O'Connell check out the base boom no heel click right that back foot turns is he rocking the JS like it nice torque again the ball's right on him pretty similar throw though right so what I'm talking about Crosser under over type idea is being we're gonna go under the first offender so right here we're going under the Sam what up well let's just go old school terminology here the will the mic the Sam and I don't know who's who in the zoo here for the 49ers it really doesn't matter under then we're gonna go over the mic and then we're gonna get to this Crosser area and so when they ask this middle of the three linebacker types right here to be able to fill in the fake lead draws or fakely Draw here he's gonna have a run fit he's then gonna have to turn and run okay again Middlefield close we're working that Crosser again let's go Josh back to the well watch that route from the tight end under over watch the mic have to try to fit the Run turn and run gapped nice job from AOC finding them hit him on the over and just doing work a little lead draw fake whoop great Bass hang in there not perfect pocket doesn't matter strike next one here start the second quarter third and three the number one to the bottom short motion he's running the Crosser this time Middlefield closed man they try to switch it off doesn't matter nice separation at the top another winner again back to the well Middlefield close some iteration of man looking great Bass strike right up on him catches him not sure he had to jump and fall for that to catch it in the chest but again you know you don't see and I think it's worth mentioning in my opinion you don't see a lot of design like this in the preseason so short motion to a stack why do you want to do that well you've got this team playing Middlefield closed man so they're going to try to pass this off between these two okay so immediately when you run this runaway so we're coming back here we're off the line of scrimmage we're not going to get bumped they pass it off so the inside Defender is now going to run with this crossover over and we're going to be able to get up here and then the patience to then snap this thing separate across so just great a great call versus a good versus this type of coverage going back to the well what this is the third time in a Row Third clip of the video third Crosser nice base from Aiden O'Connell as well just really impressive how he's able to kind of shred this thing all in the same concept but just throw you got cash this ball for us dog I think they call it a catch reverse it probably I didn't watch the broadcast but on the all 22 it comes back this is dropping it in the bucket though for O'Connell again check out his feet y'all how about this angle too this is very video game-ish one two three dovetail dovetail let's go let's go lined up to the left y'all let's go Dot I mean come on it's a thing of beauty polished if you don't catch this ball just go right to the locker room don't come back to the huddle it's a beautiful throw again defense here I'm not gonna pretend to say that this is the most complicated defense that we're seeing here especially but I mean it's third and short all these clips I'm showing but we're going to get this is Bump man bump man now I love the aggressiveness love the aggressiveness to keep throwing the rock especially down the field versus runaway winners we're taking a shot on Third and one preseason this is what preseason is all about for me let's go make some plays give our guys shots to make plays doesn't work out here but Aidan O'Connell is dealing on all these Runaway chunks down the field you'd love to see it happy for the dude go get some Boop that's a DOT golly I mean I'm not even sure why we're diving here just catch it and run the safety's not even in play damn next one here guess what it is and over to the tight end in line Y Middlefield closed wide ass open Zone holy moly just go back to the well love it right here I think they get a little long trap action pulling the left guard will power pass whoop again really nice job from Ian O'Connell just the subtle pocket movement watch that subtle over up I mean that's a lot of space I think they pair it with post wheel up top so anytime we're pulling the guard like this I'm always thinking we're gonna get probably some iteration of either pop pass or this kind of over-ish vibe right here I think they pair it with what I'm used to calling post wheel so that creates an even bigger natural void over here you know oftentimes you'll see this thing with out must outside release go same creates that same kind of void over here in your allow your kind of eyes to go one to two to the over just a really clean job again I I can't tell you how much I appreciate Josh just going back to the well it's working let's go you're not gonna get these kind of looks during the regular season I mean look how open it is no one's around it for what 10 yards maybe eight yards nice job O'Connell finding it putting it on him again I really like this rep because of the little subtle pocket movement so no I mean he almost gets tripped by his own guy right stay up just that little bit of no Panic not bailing and then a strike right up on him I mean that is at least the fourth over we've shown let's go last one here touchdown pass slot out it's about as easy as it gets y'all this is uh this is not gonna work cover twice it's a nice throw it is I'm not going to take anything away from the throw it's a handoff and you know let's acknowledge that's not gonna work that's not gonna work at any level you'd be pissed at that coverage at the JV level one two boom again I really like the fact that you know Connell was lined up when he was going to his left one two all his cleats in the ground he's on time that ball is a handoff it's per you could not hand it to him better so it's a great throw which leads to the touchdown but it's also I mean the coverage has been loose at best so far in this video one two boom on time pinpoint accuracy let's go so that is a wrap Aidan O'Connell really impressive pre-season week one performance loved how he was able to kind of showcase his polished footwork his base his lower half with really some pinpoint accuracy on that over concept they just kept going back to the well kept going back to the well kept going back to the well love how Josh was aggressive on Third and short as well it wasn't all overzo we also had the touchdown pass pinpoint accuracy and the Deep go ball that I thought was also a beautiful throw love the dovetail footwork lot to like certainly want to see more fired up to see exactly what the hell the Raiders look like offensively this year we'll see as for this video thank you for hanging to the end I will see you next time have a good one
