AI Learns To Survive

few weeks ago me and my friends went camping to a small area in Germany here's the name I won't even try pronouncing it because I'll definitely say it wrong but it was gorgeous under me a professional survivor even made myself a chair to have something to sit on hey don't judge too harsh I made it using a cleaver the camping site was in some sort of valley surrounded by Forest Hills but just listen to those sounds the best thing was the night sky without any light pollution for the first time in my life I was able to see that many stars with the naked eye also we were able to clearly see the constellation Ursa Major and it was breathtaking so laying next to the campfire looking at the sky I got this idea since there were so many situation where AI outsmarted human beings how would that relate to survival can an AI come up with survival strategies that may even sound contrary to 850 human beings and what if we would train an AI to survive in wild an unforgiving environment my name is sander and today I want to show you my first attempt of making a machine learning agent and training it to survive spoiler alert it ended up being way way downward than I expected but I did learned a lot so the next project will be even more interesting also I've spent a lot of effort making this video so if you'll find it entertaining please consider leaving the work before I show it in action let me first quickly explain the concept of the game meat chickens Gopa with a boy - reppin MN tower survival chicken has a campfire Chico loves his campfire and in what you to survive Chico's has to maintain his health and the campfire his health above zero to maintain the fire burning Chico's has to gather wood from the forest however to do so he shouldn't have his belly empty when Chico gets hungry he starts losing health and he has to gather some food you think at the campfire we'll restore more hunger than eating on the go also since chicken sells very small and clumsy hands he can carry only two items at a time so he has to deposit them at the campfire in case chuckles decides to some upgrading he can gather stones and use them at the campfire to increase the maximum health and hunger and now that we know the rules of the game was just lay back and enjoy a little fella struggling to survive King that speed seems like he's figuring out the first rule of survival pretty fast and that's gather some food otherwise we'll starve to death then it seems like he's decided to have a little walk before eating maybe to empty his belly or something and since chuckles isn't freaking around he's eating it straight on the go because he has not time to go to the campfire to eat and he got confused oh that's interesting for some reasons he decided it's a good idea to upgrade now so he gathers some stone but I'd say it's more than decision than the strategy but Who am I to tell him what to do right haha now he's confused because he wants food but his hands are food so he's just running in agony around this cornfield starving well the food is so close next to him okay good he finally figured out how to store stuff at the base whoo that's in the exhausting for him because now he went straight to the cornfield and it sounds like he's having the match of his life [Music] so good also he finally started gathering wood for the campfire and that was quite in time from this point his actions get quite repetitive he gathers some food it's attracted to farm then gathers one or two walks and get them to the camp that's why I've speed up the video [Applause] it's interesting how he refused the campfire the last few seconds living on the edge [Music] he's having his last meal tries to gather some walk but he's still hungry so he can do that he's dead in order to achieve this results Chico's was trained for 50 hours which is approximately 100,000 iterations and since all the training was done on my little notebook the temperatures were so high that I might be actually the reason why it was so hot the last few days my initial goal was to have one more event to the game and that would be a spider that will attack every evening at 6 p.m. however the training process took way longer than I anticipated so I had to remove that also I was the progress few times and had to start over that was because I would think that they need to tweak some parameters and after doing so I'd realized that it was better before I'll have lots of hours without any progress that would make me question whether it just takes so long to train them or I just made some mistakes and even though I did not manage to make my little friends survive for an unlimited amount of time I feel like he did achieve pretty strong results initially I was training him with all five events which is the mind the campfire the spider is the farm in the forest however even after hours of training this dumb dam was unable to survive even longer than two hours so what I decided to do was to give him some handicap and remove the mind from the game so he could train in an easier environment but that decision ended up everything later because Chico's was channel 4 events when I added the fifth one back into the game his brain was unable to adapt to it so he was unable to use the previous knowledge in the new environment so I had to remove one of the events have to basically choose between the mind and the spider well bye-bye Spidey after about nine hours of training it showed some first result being able to survive a maximum of six hours 20 hours later and our little bird Grylls was able to fight with harsh surroundings for a whole day and six hours quite impressive huh that means the more than I would survive I would like to thank attorneys for making free those cute 3d models that I used in this video he has more cool stuff on his website link in the description also let me know in the comments if you recognize the sounds and let me know what you think about this video see you next time
