Adele Being a Songwriting Genius for 5 minutes

Tick Tock came up a lot right so I'm like but they're like you know we've really got to make sure these 14 year olds know who you are and I'm like but they've all got mums they've all got mums and like they've definitely been growing up listening to my music these four wheelers and stuff like that but it was like if everyone's making music for The Tick Tock who's making the music for my generation who's making the music for my peers I will do that job gladly I'd rather cater to people that have like around my level in terms of like the amount of time we've spent on Earth and all the things we've been through then I don't want 12 year olds listening to this record a bit too deep but the 30 and 40 year olds are all committing to themselves and doing therapy that's my vibe yeah because that's what I was doing yeah you know so I'm more concerned with how this record can help them I'm not I'm not saying I mean Andrew's not a fan of mine but he's just like he doesn't eat it he thinks that Rolling in the Deep is there what'd you know about rolling down in the morning about yeah there's got to be a mashup though but I love it but he's like okay great you know whatever he doesn't really care it's great I do remember that on on 19 I always use the word cuz it's so lazy one time I was in the studio of SIA and I kept being like cuz or but and and she's like we don't do those words we don't do those words we don't use words like that no it's just like lazy but but clearly I'm lazy whoa oh that's what I say whenever like I have a successful writing session or it's never really a session it always comes at a really awkward point in my day I always try and pinpoint what it is exactly that's made that song end up being finished and and me thinking it's good enough to be on a record to play to people um I always try and work out what it is so I can sort of Jar it and then use it whenever I want to write a song I never can it's usually in the middle of the night like I wake up in a cold sweat and I've got an idea or I'm just kind of playing the guitar or playing on the piano or sometimes I am in the studio with someone um when I get up and really like to go for a glass of water you know and I've got nothing else to grab my Blackberry and sing into it um varies it's frustrating though but I quite like it because I mean apart from when it's like three in the morning and you're really tired you want to sleep you can't sleep because somebody's gonna lose the idea but my also my motto is if you can't remember it it's not good enough if you can't remember something it's not good enough I don't think there's any expectation of sincerity left in music from artists and I believe that artists are sincere and I think to be an artist like a natural artist um it's it comes from deep within us that and it's a necessity that we have to put it out and I'm just me being an artist as a singer or a writer it could be a painter it could be photographer it could be you know a chef an architect or someone that's creating something you know and I just feel like it's just a transaction now that's a trade yeah and I don't that's not why I got into music it's just not my vibe but I'm not in it long enough at time for it to really take me off of Music at all like you know um if I was doing this every year I mean I'll just I'll just be a zombie I think you know so we're sitting around in this old school I'm on the piano she's on the couch I'm trying to play or something I keep looking over to see if there's anything that's you know waking her up her senses and I play uh the first two chords on the chorus this is my last night with you guys what's up what's up yeah I don't know what is it think my lyrics have probably changed a bit over time in terms of my vocabulary growing considering that I started out when I was 19. definitely read loads more books and stuff like that since then so I think my imagination has grown and therefore my lyrics have progressed but you know they're always still about the same thing me and um seemingly my failed relationships which is crazy because I don't feel like that but yeah because music is my therapy I'm never going into the studio to be like right I need another hit like you know it's not like that for me it's when something is more powerful and overwhelming than me I like to go to a studio because it's normally a basement and there's no [ __ ] windows and no reception so no one can get hold of me so I'm basically running away uh how about any advice for anyone getting started in music well the best advice I ever got was um to keep your heart safe and your music dangerous and I live by that so that would be my piece of advice too it's good so I was looping this chord progression on the piano and she said can you just just keep playing it she's walking around with her notepad very quietly in the piano room beside me I could hear it kind of muttering and and I kept playing and then she just said okay I have something I I don't know if it's any good it might be crap can I just sing it for you sure she's okay just play those chords again and I did and the song is called one and only and if you listen to her album the way she sings the chorus it opens on a high C full voice I dare you to let me be your one and only which is one of the best lyrics I've ever heard um and she ripped into it and sounded exactly like the final record she just sang the whole course from top to bottom and I was I almost fell off the piano stool I thought on his songs I guess um and we wrote our own songs and I think people relate to them because they're really honest which I think is a it's like I think that's great when that happens and I love it when I come across an artist it does that
