Baruch is pleased to share this weekly address in English to find out more about our work in Israel please visit us on the web at love Israel Margie that's one word love Israel dot o RG now here's burrow with today's lesson the Word of God is truth and we need to learn how to handle the Word of God so that we can understand his truth apply it to our life in order that we might have a godly testimony and the scripture that we've been looking at and we'll continue to look at tonight and the next week is a scripture that speaks about God's desire to make known his salvation to every people nation language and tongue God's desire is that all people would find repentance that they would turn from their evil 'no salvation through the only source of salvation and that is Messiah Yeshua and that speaks not just to Israel but to all nations and this is exactly the message that Peter received now he received it in a very interesting manner and it's only when we understand culture Jewish culture that we can make the right conclusions for this passage now I'm going to go back and review a few minutes before we press on in this passage from the book of Acts in chapter 10 so you might want to open up to that location the book of Acts in Chapter ten and you might recall that Peter saw a vision and the vision began with a garment being let down by four corners now when we hear the term Arabic invoked four corners what comes into our mind is that prayer shawl and as we talked about last week and we'll speak about next week this prayer shawl is constructed in a way in order to remember the commandments of God so before we go any further we see that God is giving us a message which we should understand has foundationally a message to remember his commandments and then there are all types of of creatures four-legged creatures creatures that that crawl and also Bert's we know nothing more about them are they kosher are they not kosher the biblical term clean unclean have they been contaminate in some way none of that information is given therefore we don't need to know it and we should not conjecture only allowed the scripture testimony to to provide the information that we need in interpreting a scripture what is important is this what God says to Peter Peters the one who saw this vision and God said to him rise this is a call to service rise and then that word sacrifice I realized that most Bibles will say kill but it's a very unique word it does involve killing but it's a ritualistic meaning a slaughtering of an animal for a religious purpose now that may be simply to be eaten but it has to be done in a certain way the blood according to the Torah needs to be dealt with in a proper manner so blood is very important in the scripture we'll see more about that when we get into acts 15 Peter objected not because of the eating but because of the act of slaughter he did not know how to do it he was not ordained for this task and therefore he said no unclean nor any common animal have I ever eaten so he's very concerned he is very strict about this so what's the problem well we don't know if those animals are clean or unclean we don't know if they are common or not common so because of that what he's saying is this if I do this action because I've not been ordained for this task it is going to render the animals improper for me now there's many things that have to be identified before an animal can be killed and eaten now this is what we know we know that this vision he saw this sheet coming down three times three is the number four revealing something God is wanting to reveal him something and what is that well this is what we're going to see in this week's study you're going to find out that food plays absolutely no role in this vision in a sense that Peter never ate anything what we're going to find is that this vision has one and I mean one purpose and that is for Peter to take God's message of the gospel which he's going to do to the Gentiles very important he gave them no message in regard to food what eat what not to eat none of that so the only thing that the purpose of this vision showed is God is commissioning Peter not to kill animals in order to eat them but he's using that a position that Peter says or I'm not called I've even been ordained to that and gods using that as an example of what God is going to call Peter and ordained Peter to do and what is that as we'll see to take the gospel to the nation's that is the message of the vision and if you add anything to it you're adding to the Word of God we don't see any additional message confirmed in the scripture well we left off last week with Peter entertaining those men those who were sent to him by Cornelius and we ended that on the next day Peter departed with those men and some of the others and this is going to be important in fact let's go back to where we left off in verse 23 of Acts chapter 10 it says and it's in the middle of the verse and on the next day Peter went out with them and remember this and certain ones of the brothers from yaffle so some of the brethren that is some of the believers from Yafo it says went with him this is important so the ones who were sent by Cornelius and Peter and some of the believing brothers in Yafo they also accompanied Peter on this journey now look at the next verse verse 24 and on the next day he entered into Caesarea now seseri we've talked about this place is a town that was built up by the Romans as their headquarters in this area of the world in Israel primarily but it extends even beyond Israel so this was kind of a little Rome and if you tour Caesarea today you'll learn much more about that so he entered into having arrived it says he entered into Caesarea and then it says and Cornelius was expecting him and he had called with meaning called together his family members his relatives and the friends who were close to him now Peter knew excuse me I should say Cornelius knew that Peter was going to come to him and tell him what he needed to do and I think it's so important that when he knew that there was a message from God what did he do he brought those from his family and those from his friends into his home that they might also hear that message and this is just elementary in the sense that if you hear good news you're gonna want to share it if this is something that impacts you positively spiritually you just naturally are going to share that and if you don't there's something wrong usually is because you really don't believe what you say you do you are going to if you believe it's a matter of salvation or eternal condemnation in the pit of hell in that lake that burns with fire for ever and ever if you truly believe if someone doesn't receive that they're going to experience that well you are going to do just like Cornelius dead and that is to invite them to hear that message so we find that Peter entered into Caesarea and Cornelius was expecting him and he had called together his family and also his close friends verse 25 and Peter it came about when he entered Cornelius stood up I like this he stood up out of respect and then what happened it says here and falling upon his feet literally falling upon the feet it says he did something what was that falling upon the feet implying Peters feet he worshiped now this is how excited he was to meet Peter that he and this is wrong he was worshipping him and Peter noticed what happened verse 26 and Peter raised them up saying stand up I also am a man and then look at the end here it says and talking with him now this is not the normal word for talking many of you know that if you come from a Christian background some of the the traditional Christian or Church language is when it comes time for a sermon or a message even to this day some churches would put homily now a homily is like a sermon but it is always understood by that word that is a degree of instruction so when it says here that Peter talked to him or spoke with him it has to do with a homily that is a discourse for the purpose of teaching revealing something so it's a significant word that appears care and then it says he entered and found having gathered there many and he said to them you know this is word becomes very significant he says to these family members and friends of Cornelius and were to find out that they are Gentiles and he says to them you know or you understand how unlawful now be very careful when he says unlawful here he is not speaking of it from a tourist and point there is nothing let me say it again there is nothing in the Torah that says it's forbidden it's a lawful what we're going to be studying in this verse that is a tradition of the oral law that is the tradition of the elders but these traditions as they are today get all wrapped up where people are confused that these are also dots commands so what Peter is speaking here is about a law of the Judeans and that's why he says look again we find here that he speaks and he says you know you understand how unlawful it is for a Jewish man and it means to keep company and to come before a stranger now this word stranger means not a fellow Jew so he's saying this is what Jewish law back then and to agree to a degree even today they were saying it's forbidden for a Jewish man is that what it says no it says a Judean and this is important I'll speak why in a moment but he says you know according to the law area and what laws are referring to the oral law that it is unlawful for a man of the Judeans to keep company or to come before a stranger this is what this is the tradition of the religion of Judaism but that is what it says as we keep reading we read and to me and this is emphatic why is it in Phatak and to me the emphasis here and we see this from word order is that it's referring to the vision because God didn't give that vision to someone else Peter received it and that's why he says emphatically to me God has shown to call no man common or unclean now these were the words that are related to the text the vision that Peter spoke in regard to the first time they appear is after this is so significant after God says to him rise and slaughter and eat now it didn't say these words in regard to all of those four-legged creatures those things that creep on the ground and the birds of the heavens didn't say any of that it was only in regard to when Peter says nothing unclean or literally nothing common or unclean has ever entered into my mouth and now Peter is giving clear indication what that vision was was it about you can eat whatever you want that's not what this passage has to do with now we can talk some other time about that but if we're just limiting ourselves and that's what we're gonna do tonight about the message of this text we have to look at the clues from the Bible and this is what happens is that traditionally we see and just check out the Christian commentators they oftentimes even neglect what to real vision is because you're so surely wanting to say up the dietary laws are removed in this passage whether they are or not that's a different issue this scripture doesn't deal with them there's nothing in the text that speaks to this no let's deal with the text this is what the message was of the Bible Peter says look at the end of verse 28 and to me God has shown not to call a man common or unclean therefore verse 29 therefore also without objection see Peter understood this message and it was this reason that he departed from yaffo or you could say Joppa or Jaffa however you want to translate that name today in Israel we call yafo he left there for that purpose because God had taught him there's nothing proper improper so what do we have to do here's the danger there are people than saying that God is changing the law this is a problem when you say changing the law because it would Messiah said not one jot not one tittle is going to go away from the law until there's a new heaven and a new earth that's the point so we run into a problem if God is disagreeing with himself know what God is disagreeing with is the Rabbinical the traditional the oral law that he did not have anything to do with it is a creation of man this is where this Gentiles are unclean and we can't have any fellowship or any he can't keep company with them that's not biblical we don't see that in the Old Testament we certainly don't see it in the New Testament so look again to me God has shown not to call a man common or unclean therefore also he says without objection I came when when summoned when sent for therefore I enquire now he wants to know something I understand what message God gave to me but but I'm not sure why you sent for me so he says therefore I inquire for what reason that you have sent for me he says why am i here verse 30 and Cornelius said four days ago at this hour I was fasting and at the ninth hour I was praying in my house and behold a man now we know this is an angel but as I said many times the word ish in Hebrew man is used for an angel once again and behold a man standing before me in shining or bright clothing and he said Cornelius your prayer has been heard and also your arms they have come up as a memorial before God therefore sent to verse 32 therefore sent to yaffle to the one called shamone or Simon who is called Peter so because of Cornelius commitment in making prayers now what do you think it was praying well he believed in the God of Israel we we know that because we found out last week that he was one who feared God so he was a believer in the God of Israel and he wanted to draw close to God he had a desire to walk with God and he was praying the implication is he was praying to be obedient to God to know God all this and because of his commitment through prayer and acts of mercy that's what arms are that you do to other people for other individuals God responded and what is God doing he's having Peter go there and here's the indication Peter he had to understand what God's God's truth was he had to step out of rabbinical Judaism and their oral tradition concerning Gentiles God had to give him a vision to say hey I am sending you part for a purpose I am giving you an ordination for a role and that is to take as we'll see the Gospel message to Gentiles and don't call them common or unclean why God made them why would they be unclean in a different way than Jewish people God made both we are all his creation so look again what are we fine he's saying that his prayers and his arms have come out out therefore he says send to Jaffa - one called Simon who is also called or named Peter this one is is lodging in a house of Simon the Tanner by the sea and therefore this one keep reading in verse 32 who having come to you will speak or having come will speak to you so Cornelius understood that there was a man who the angel said summoned for him and he is going to speak to you verse 33 immediately therefore I sent for you and you also have done well so Cornelius is saying this is a good thing that you have done by by coming therefore now all of us we are before God so he says we're here standing before God we're waiting and this expression is so important when he says all of us are before God we are this is one ready to obey now let's just stop for a moment ask yourself are you ready to obey see God and I say this a lot but God's not going to manifest his revelation he is not going to give you insight he's not going to move in a mighty way in your life if if you're not wanting to obey his revelation and not only was Cornelius wanting to but all those he has assembled he was a leader he was kind of a patriarch of his family because of his important position in an illustrious burgade in the Roman army he got people there and he got them interested in God's revelation and he says all of us we are ready and what happens look at verse 34 and Peter opened up his mouth and he said and it's very important he says upon truth he says basically having received that it is not that is God is not a respecter of people what it literally means here this word for a respecter of people it's a word prost pone pro SOPA is a word for face and basically it's one that shows favoritism God does not show favoritism God does not show partiality so he says truth I have received that God does not show partiality but in every nation the one who fears him and who's doing righteousness now is he saying here about a works righteousness no it's not what he's saying is that God is looking for people in every nation that will fear Him what does that mean given priority and when it says work righteousness here's the key righteousness has to two significant connections what is its connections with first righteousness is connected to the will of God secondly to the kingdom of God so he's saying where there's people who have a priority for God and they're interested and participating in the will of God and being part of the kingdom of God God's going to move he's looking for such people you say well well how can they be people like that well I'm gonna be teaching in a few weeks and the message is about without excuse and the scripture says in the book of Romans that through creation the invisible God has been made known and therefore those who are convicted by creation you just have to look and know that there's a creation greater those who reject him they are without excuse so God is saying there are people in every nation who fear me that is they have a priority for God and they also want his will and to be part of his kingdom and therefore he is going to look for those people and those what it says and they are received to him but the question is how these are the people that the gospel is supposed to be taken to and we're gonna see how the gospel plays a role here look now to verse 36 and therefore this word what word than when we're coming to this word was sent to the sons of Israel proclaiming the good news of what peace now how did that get in there well peace has to do with reconciliation peace has to do with the purposes of God and notice here it talks about the good news what this verse informs a reader if is very simple that God has given already this is true in the book of X already God has given to Israel the Gospel message which is a message of reconciliation the word peace here is a word that speaks about reconciliation so God has given this message to the sons of Israel keep reading and what is this message that through you sure the Messiah this one is the Lord of all so the point here is that usedto is not simply the Jewish Messiah he's a messiah who entered this world as a Jew but he's not the Messiah of the Jews alone no who is he he is the Messiah the Lord literally it says of all and Israel was supposed to take that message and Peter's being commissioned to do that now I want to stop for a moment and go off on a small tangent to see the difference now we've been mentioning yafo the city of Joppa or Jaffa now if you to ask a typical Jewish people and you should know it as well whether you're Jewish or not when you hear that town yaffle in the scripture what should come into your mind first and the answer is Yana Hanavi Jonah the Prophet because after he received the message from God and that message was for the Gentiles those on che Nineveh those who were in Nineveh to take God's message to them and what did he do he went down to Nineveh he got on a boat and he went to another location that was his intent he didn't make it there did he but that was his intent to go someplace else what's happening is at the same location where Jonah disobeyed God he didn't want to take God's message to the Gentiles now we see Peter who had experienced Messiah Shore and his love and his grace and his forgiveness of sins Peter was willing desiring to do that and that's what's happening here so look again this message that Israel was supposed to take it says and through Messiah sure this one is the lord of all for you know that happened the word throughout all of Judea he says you know that this message of Messiah went through all the the area of Judea and it began from Galilee and after the baptism of the one called John and what did John do he proclaimed so after the baptism of the one of the of the one who proclaimed Yeshua from Nazareth that's what John the Baptist did he proclaimed you sure from Nazareth as the one who God anointed him with the Holy Spirit and power now whenever the Holy Spirit is mentioned in the Bible we need to always see it in the context of redemption why is that because if you look and I say this several times if you look to the book of Isaiah chapter 59 when it speaks about the redeemer it speaks about the Redeemer is going to turn away the sins of Jakov so it's a message of of salvation for Israel and it says that he's going to pour out upon the children and the children's children and the children's children going to pour out his holy spirit so when the Holy Spirit there just says his spirit but obviously it's a reference to the ruach ha'qodesh the Holy Spirit realize it comes in a context where the Messiah is called the Redeemer so there's always a connection between redemption and the work of the Holy Spirit look again at the text says and God anointed him that is issuer with the Holy Spirit and power and we read here who passed through doing good meaning good works and healing all the ones who are afflicted by the devil now what's interesting is that even though he's telling this and the past meaning this happened what Yeshua did in healing those people who were afflicted in the past with devil meaning demonic afflicted by the devil notice it's very odd but he puts it in the present and why is that because Messiah was still doing it in the time of Peter after the death burial resurrection and ascension of Yeshua back to the heavens where he sits at the right hand of God it was happening 2,000 years ago and guess what that same anointing that was upon you sure that saying power is available to us by means of the Holy Spirit we're likewise we can have victory over the ones who afflict others I'm speaking about demonic affliction we can have victory over these unclean spirits and set free those who are afflicted verse 38 as I can have for God was with him this is so important this phrase God was with him this word with is also a redemptive word so God was with him but here's what saying God's work of redemption was through him that's the implication of this construction verse 39 and we are witnesses of these things which he did in the land of Judea and in Jerusalem whom they killed and they hung upon the tree so it's very clear here Messiah was rejected this work was not received by Israel and now what we find here is that Peter is beginning the process of taking that message that good news that we talked about earlier that good news that's going to have a powerful outcome it is a message of peace of reconciliation now we're going to get into this last part of of Acts chapter 10 and we see it has strong theological connections we're going to learn things that some denominations teach differently and the problem is they use other scripture which they interpret incorrectly to justify a wrong doctrine when we look here we see it so clearly this is a fundamental passage in regard to the Holy Spirit and the reason why I say that is because we see the Holy Spirit taking center stage in this passage well once more we find here that God was with them verse 39 and we are witnesses of all these things which he did in the land Judea and in Jerusalem whom they killed and whom they hung upon the tree verse 40 and this one God raised on the third day and gave him to be manifest now this is an awkward in English but it's so important this is foundational because it says two things here the first thing it says is that you schewe did not init of himself he could have but this is not what the text says this is in no way to lessen the power and the divinity of yeshua but it's to emphasize in this passage his submissiveness and his trust his absolute confidence in his Heavenly Father so you sure we know he rose from the dead but what the scripture so often emphasizes and I speak about this a great deal as well because of its significant what the scripture tells us in this passage is that God raised him from the dead look again at verse 40 this one got raised on the third day and gave him this is important God gave us God gave this to be manifested gave him to be manifested whom all the people meaning this was to all the people meaning they were seeing this now is this what it says no it says not to all the people in fact it says not to all the people but rather to the witnesses that God had done God had done what this is very important this manifestation of the resurrection of Messiah he says it was not given to all the people but rather we see here two witnesses that he and it's a word for hand and the activity of the hand so we might say hand-picked and then it's a word but or Han so it's those whom God had hand-picked before him okay in of us it says who ate and drink with him and after he rose from the dead so he's saying here that there is a calling there is a selection by God of the witnesses who were going to take this message who had witness it who ate with him drink with him meaning they had fellowship with him and therefore they were the ones who could attest to the resurrection better than anyone else look now to verse 42 and he commanded us to proclaim to the people and to testify that this is the one here is very important now many Bibles will say ordained and that's fine but this is the one word that we could even say pre destined and what does it mean well it's very interesting the word is or rizzo we've talked about it before and other elections but as other lectures but it's very important that we understand it this is saying that this is a one that God ordained that he predestined what does it mean or rizzo there's two words that we need to talk about or Rio and or Rizal now it's the same word but it has two different vowel excuse me verb endings very important that we see that it's the root word but you can make this word to see and that's what it means to see doesn't have anything to do this word with before him just means to see or Raul means this but or rizzo and this is a word Arisa it is to see but it's usually based upon a pattern and this is what it's saying that God had a pattern he had a description and Messiah met that description perfectly and that's why it says he ordained him because he was the one that met the criteria for being the redeemer being the one who would be anointed by God to do what to judge the living and the dead now circle that to judge the living and the dead why is that so important it's important because you can't go very far neither in the Old Testament or in the New Testament without judgment coming into play and what this scripture says and it's affirmed other places as well that all matters of judgment has been given over to Yeshua that he meets the qualifications for being the Anointed One the king and King rules he rules on his throne and being on the throne he makes judgment he is good to judge both the living and the dead verse 43 to this meaning to this one all the prophets testified now I like this because I constantly tell people if you want to understand Messiah who is what he's going to do and what he will do all these things have to do with prophecy and to me it is not surprising because we know something we know that it says in the Book of Ezekiel chapter 37 in the very end up until Messiah returns Judaism is going to be a religion that God's not pleased with and furthermore we know something else we know that Christianity is going to become apostate and we're seeing that today so many wrong teachings so many things that are done that are in conflict with Scripture so what we know is this there's going to be a movement away from prophetic truth both by the church and by Judaism and this is going to get rise up to the work of the Antichrist and establishing a one-world government that is an opposition that is a blasphemous government and that's why we see the scripture but the scripture tells us here that to this one meaning to Messiah look at what it says all the prophets testify and what did they testify well remember a concern that we had earlier on in the text in verse 33 when it says here is the first verse actually verse 35 where it speaks about the one who fears God and who does righteousness and there's a concern well maybe this is how one saved by fearing God and doing righteous deeds no notice what it says here it's to this one go back to where we are verse 43 to this one all the prophets and one Accord all the prophets testified concerning the forgiveness of sin how one can reseed the forgiveness of sins through his name not through good deeds not do anything other than calling on his name to all those notice what it says all those literally in the singler to everyone that believes in him so we have to call upon him in faith that's where we find forgiveness of sins but it begins with someone saying I believe that there's a God and I want to serve God I want to do his will I want to be part of his kingdom and when someone wants those things what's gonna happen God is going to get his gospel to such an individual move on now to diverse verse 44 verse 44 is where it gets very significant because there are those who teach and one of the things you have to know about me is that I do not mind in in challenging certain theological views because it's important that we refine one another you know iron sharpens iron so we can do it in love we should do it with a very keen awareness that we also I also need to be at times taken aside and taught better shown a more excellent way of understanding a verse a scripture or a doctrine we all need each other to help build us up we all have that ministry to edify one another but those who teach and there's many those who teach that oh the Holy Spirit it comes upon a person because of the laying of hands now when you accept Messiah when you receive the gospel you have the indwelling Spirit but you don't have the baptism of the Holy Spirit that is a false statement one said again that is a false statement when we get for example to acts 19 we'll look at for example one of the doctrines I believe of the Assembly of God that teach this second separate work of the Holy Spirit and they use Acts chapter 19 to justify it and their handling of the text is incorrect we saw back in Acts chapter 8 with the laying on of hands but this had the priority for the purpose of showing the authority of the Apostles not an ongoing way throughout history where someone receives the power of and the anointing and the baptism of the Holy Spirit now people tell you the evidence I'm not saying this I'm saying some people will say the evidence of the baptism of the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues so everyone who's been full of the Spirit baptism of the Spirit will speak in tongues but we find out in the scripture and I don't deny I the gift of tongues I do not have that but I do not deny the the reality of it but what I deny is that everyone who is baptized in the Holy Spirit has that but let's look at a scripture that's very interesting and it cuts both ways you'll see what I mean by that in a moment look if you would to our text verse 45 we'll go back to it we see here and verse 45 and they were excuse me verse verse 43 we see at the end there that forgiveness of sins is given by his name to the one who believes in him now verse 44 and still speaking that's Peter Peter was still speaking these words he was still talking to them and notice the Holy Spirit fell upon all the ones who heard the word now in this context who were they Gentiles so Peter was and I think we all agree here that Peter was sharing an accurate gospel you believe in the name of Messiah call upon him for the forgiveness of sins he's the only way by Lee by believing in the death burial and resurrection in the scripture alluded to the death bear and resurrection showing that he was put to death now no one took his life he laid it down but the scripture says he was killed and we find out also he was hung on the tree now those two things are synonymous he died when he was hanging on the tree but notice what the scripture says verse 44 while Peter was still speaking these words the Spirit the Holy Spirit fell upon all the ones hearing the word no one laid hands upon them these was the moment that they believed that they received the gospel and the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who hear the word and notice verse 45 now and they Daanish coo the ones of the circumcision who believed now the circumcision means of the Jewish ones who were those were most likely see this a moment those that came from Jaffa with Peter who accompanied him from the Brethren from the believers look at the whole text it says and they were astonished who were the ones of the circumcision who believed who had come with Peter meaning come with Peter from yaffo that also upon the Gentiles the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out very important now most people who study won't pay attention to what this word is when it says was poured out here's what's important this is a perfect passive now what does that mean it means that this is an event that happened in the past right then and is going to what continue into the future so the giving of the Holy Spirit happened to the past's it was happening then but it's good to go on continuing into the future and it's a passive meaning it's done to you you can't bring it about yourself it is an act of God God determines the Holy Spirit going into a person filling that person baptizing him with the Holy Spirit so look again they were amazed those of the circumcision who believed who had come with Peter that also upon the nations the gift of the Holy Spirit was poured out for they heard them speaking in tongues now this is when they came to faith it wasn't a second act and it didn't wasn't accompanied by the lanes on hand they heard the gospel they believed and the Holy Spirit entered into them and they spoke in tongues and they glorified God then Peter answered notice normative we have baptism but here we see something we see here the Holy Spirit was given and that's normal to a person believes he receives the Holy Spirit and one of his first acts of obedience is to testify through baptism so it is normal - it says then Peter answered and says who's able to forbid water can anyone forbid water that these should not be baptized these are the ones who received the Holy Spirit just as us so what do we find her we find that the Holy Spirit was poured out upon these Gentiles in the same way the same gift in the same manner was poured out upon who on the Jewish believers and this is where it takes us back to God is not a respecter of person he has his loss his rules however you want to classify it for Humanity there is not a salvation way for a Jewish person and a different way for Gentile there is not a way that a Jew receives the Holy Spirit and Anan Jew receives the Holy Spirit and furthermore there's not Commandments for the Jews uniquely from the Gentiles what we find is that God is not a God that shows partiality his word is for all so we look at the scripture and they were astonished because also those of the nations received the Holy Spirit just as also we and then look at verse 48 we find here and he commanded them to be baptized how in the name of the Lord now we can have a a debate other places in the scripture it says in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit that's that's wonderful here it simply says in the name of the little in other places it wants to reinforce the Trinity and therefore it has that but here it simply says they were baptized in the name of the Lord and what happened then they asked him to remained a certain days they didn't want him to depart immediately they wanted to what it shows something they wanted to hear more they wanted to be discipled they wanted more revelation and this is what a true believe or desires they want to know the Word of God in order that they can walk with God serve God and bring honor to his name fulfilling his will if your faith is I want God on my side no get on God's side if your belief is I want God to do my will you are going to be sadly sadly frustrated with your life because God's not interested in doing your will these people were anxious to learn God's revelation and I don't think it was an accident that this was the first group of people who received the gospel Cornelius a man who was a God fear one who put his very limited faith I believe there is a God and therefore I should be kind I should be generous I should be loving to all of his creation especially those who belong to the God of Israel meaning that word Israel the Jewish people it was because of Cornelius behavior how he dealt with Israel and this is simply the principle that we see in the Abrahamic covenant the measure that you measure will be measured back to you you bless Israel you're going to be blessed Cornelius was doing that he was mindful with these arms which were gifts of kindness motivated by mercy and when he was displaying that what did God do God gave him a gift the gift of the Holy Spirit and and he also showed him merci so we see how God works how his principles are dealt with in action in the life of a person so once again when we see Peter get to Caesarea when we see Peters ministry at this house does he ever discuss food does he say I have new revelation against what Moses taught no what he said was this God showed me that his creation humanity is not by nature forbidden from fellowship with one another and also proclaiming God's message of salvation and God demonstrated that by giving the Holy Spirit to Gentiles making no distinction in the means of salvation or the outcome of salvation no distinction whatsoever between Jew and Gentile so when we look at the scripture we need to let the word of God form our conclusions rather than grainy personal desire to the text on what we wanted to say or what we've been taught it says or what we've read it said in other places no I think the scripture is very clear in fact this is one of the scriptures if you're going to teach someone how to rightly divide the word of God this scripture is full we just touch the surface but it's full of different passages that you can't quiz someone on the proper methodology of interpreting the Bible and getting at the heart of the message and that should be your desire I know it's mine knowing the central message of each passage of Scripture well we'll close with that until next week may God richly bless you Word of God form our conclusions rather than bringing personal desire to the text on what we wanted to say or what we've been taught it says or what
