This is super dope. You're playing chess while everyone else is stuck on checkers.

This is absolutely insane dude. Reminds me of some scenes in Arrival. Nicely done.

That's really cool man. I've been trying to do something similar. I'm primarily a maya/max lighting/generalist artist and I haven't found a good way to trigger different channels other than transform or triggering lights in 2d and certainly nothing real time.

Looks great, congrats on the hard work paying off.

This is the type of thing I sometimes visualize in my head when I listen to a song. Unreal, dude.

Looks very promising and the music stands on it's own too, well done! Looking forward to more of your videos!

hi everyone my name is tristan i'm a artist vj 3d artist musician maker of nerdy stuff i've been working on this project for about a year now on and off and figured it was time to share some of my progress this is my first video i'm probably going to make more of them they're probably going to get better as i stop saying oh and um so without further ado uh see there i go this is a musical project that i've been working on for a while it's very much kind of inspired by old school dub style mixing coming from like an animation and a vjing background i kind of jumped into using unreal engine for rendering and creating visuals a few years ago as did a good friend of mine sam who has quite a lot of knowledge about uh coding in general but also max msp and he's also a musician and vj as well and we've worked and collaborated on many projects at this point i'll link to his youtube channel below a lot of uh he's got a lot of tutorials and stuff up already that kind of actually are about the subject that i'm going to talk about now so i'm gonna just run you through this project uh quickly just to kind of show you what the general idea is how about i just shut the up for a little bit and just play this thing out and just show you what it does i have to wiggle the uh the faders a little bit for it to do the unreal link so i can actually move my camera around in the scene which is something i'm going to automate later on as well [Music] so as you can see everything kind of just dies down as the intensity goes down the melody is triggering the little white particles the base is triggering the kind of glowing cracks the red cracks in the ground and then the kick and the snare are uh doing the particles like here the displacement like the noisy curl the curl noise on the particles triggered by the snare and the kick does the uh sort of the pulse that comes from the inside that's uh it's it's done in niagara there it's called a point point force yeah there's a point force in the middle so as it comes in you'll see it [Music] i'll i'll upload like four performance videos with this where i don't talk over it but for now this i think is quite interesting to look at [Applause] look at the sunset [Applause] frog's pretty cool probably do something without having the camera pan around and then sort of bounce in or something on the kicks as well and figure it out there's more stuff to be added later this is pretty cool [Music] so yeah and the cool thing is you can like take elements from other tracks and blend them together which is actually my favorite thing about this whole set in ableton is the fact that you can go like grab a bit from another tune one two three yeah techno i mean come on that's pretty cool right [Music] anyway yeah so that's the general idea um i'm just gonna take that out for now uh yeah there's uh there's a lot going on so i'm not gonna explain all in this one video but um essentially every individual there's the whole thing's kind of divided up into eight tracks every clip on that track has a corresponding or it is going to have i should say a corresponding midi clip going with it so if you look at the base here um as you can see it's very compressed but um just got midi notes going along with it and i have dedicated notes for a certain track so i've said midi uh c1 through d d sharp one is going to be for my bass and then if you go on the melody this melody here um it's got e one through g one uh for the melodies and i mean we're probably going to change this up but so every midi track has um this little sender uh max for live patch on it which converts midi into osc and um osc is really useful because it allows you to send floating point data and a bunch of other stuff as well as that um midi is quite limited in that sense and yeah i mean there's a whole uh kind of router set up where everything's piped in by blueprint and uh i could sort of uh reusable uh bit of blueprint code that can be used to trigger pretty much anything and unreal so i mean i'm at a point now where i've got a few things working but i'm going to continue to work on this and post updates hopefully people will enjoy it and find it useful and inspiring to do their own work as well create their own stuff and yeah i mean that's it for now like and subscribe i hope you enjoyed this hope i didn't go on for too long and that you found it informative take it easy be safe peace
