this is going down to the your can walk - leg over there that straight lines on uphill that's the Nuttall burg tipple that I was at week and a half ago it's upriver from where this game or mine site is and I'm walking down to right now we're at the Kmart mind-sight about to go down those steep steps to the where the coal was put on the trains and the coke ovens down there this is part of the old tram going up to hell where we started out location of the head house here no here's the mind you some type of electrical building here ventilation shaft up there ventilation shaft that's that ventilation shaft they give you a little warning here there's 800 steps to descend to the K more bottom we're gonna go down in a bit right there's four the head house was you know sign that tell me what this building is New River Gorge Bridge back there you it's only been 54 years and this place is worse than the Nuttall Berkman as far as deterioration we started up there on top this cliffs you looks like a water holding tank there some other structure and look at this patchwork of steps I've only come maybe and a hundred steps out of 800 that constant roar in the background of course is the new River this is what the mountain haulage tracks looked like they built this boardwalk Homa straight over top of it going up there passed them on side all the way to the top look at this set of stairs yet it's amazing they built this here probably down to the last 200 steps to our 50 steps here for the bond conveyor belt must be a mine opener you coal processing plant and power station you railroad tracks down here it's the new river that's a cold one down there the other one an Atlanta Track serves this is at the K mark mine site bottom you that's ready to collapse never lose track switching devices type of conveyor oven you any type of water drainage okay and if you look for the woods there those are those coke ovens that go over space okay I'm actually on top a lot of those toka Evans several rows of them here this is really filled in stone on the outside and fire brook blind on the inside told the fire Brooks from Pennsylvania according to one book I read and it would be an opening up there you could see the fire Burke's glazed from all the heat a lot of moms told there's a hundred of these coke ovens down here not more than at that Nuttall burg sleep and it's just a huge row of these and this is just there's a backside on this here though I have just as many lot of these have really fallen in good place for a snake like this time of year though and you can't see you barely see the hole here yeah this appears to be the end of the coke ovens No maybe on the backside I bet there's another set over here so there'd be total four rows of coke ovens yep the whole backside it's like they don't mound in the center with the coke oven on each side about fifty each that'd be 100 in this row and then 100 in that row over there side facing the new river kind of hard to tell throw the overgrowth but it just goes on and on yeah all these coke ovens these are some house foundations here I would like to have that right in your backyard there the level this is about four and a half to five feet where the bottom is I mean said iron steps leading to the top what old condo up there these poplar trees that have grown up against it if this shut down and 60 to 54 years ago it's hard to imagine those trees look older than that we're on the front side of the coke ovens facing the new river net steep cliff probably 36 to 40 don't know exactly how these are numbered but that's 92 there 93 here 94 I'm guessing 250 a row train on the opposite side the metal burg sod three engines Coltrane spreads back there this is the bottom of that tramway it starts at the top must've been a small coal opening up there for the conveyor as their last sections gone because it fell down conveyor belt you know how clear that was that's 1947 for said the town of died by the 50s fire claimed it surviving structures in 1960 in the 1990s the Park Service collapsed that building there this was one of those moments here where you go
