Abandoned JCB 6D Excavator... Will it Run?

wow that's a classic jcb 6d it's like something under the thunderbirds it is it's one of the early ones isn't it these little serial numbers yep 60 738 i wonder what it's like to get parts of this thing jcb are they still oh that's still um yeah building up there yeah but i don't know if they would still be doing parts for these things two handbrakes what's that about how about the track brakes never seen that before on a digger no where's the cylinder for the boom it's strangely only there's a big sauna here must be back under there oh yeah there it is there's two of them don't look too bad actually so what buckets have we got with it let's have a look oh yep there's a digging bucket on it it's just a digging bucket rock bucket yeah it doesn't look too bad oh yeah power and speed so this is fully adjustable yeah two pin positions that's cool gosh it's crazy looking yeah ancient isn't it so these the hydraulic motors there for the final drivers and then gearbox in there let's jack it up and have a look it's a little bit my tongue yeah wow that's gonna have to walk out under its own power i think oh yeah it's got plenty of oil in it yep that's hydraulic oil it's a good sign yeah so six cylinder is it those are the perkins i don't know oh the almost huh unbreakable yeah full of oil that does have oil so do we know what he tried to do to get it running or he just um well he was just winding and winding it over apparently and it just wouldn't fire yeah the batteries went flat so he charged them up and then he just went through a few things yeah they just still wouldn't fire okay so he's given up yeah all right pretty well sealed doesn't look too bad no that's definitely worse that's clean past the filter so it's doing its job yep i'll put that back in there we go it's got water in there what's that well where do we start get some batteries up here and try and wind her over and see what happens i suppose where did the batteries go oh he asked me right here okay so 24 volts yep so wow it's gonna fit i'll just have to right i wouldn't want not touching any metal though like i'll leave that open is that gonna go bang or what we don't have the right um connector so we're just gonna use vice grips at the moment oh well so i can see turn that key and see what happens right she's not going to go and take off on me is it um no that bucket's down it should be right nothing nothing what's this button nothing why is it not uh oh see oh it must be throttle yeah one see nothing we're gonna look see what's clicking all right this is obviously a bad connection there somewhere it's um the solenoid is clicking but there's no power getting to the starter motor ah that one that one is loose yeah there's a loose wire here all right i'll just tighten that up and see what happens i might just disconnect that um battery first because yeah you don't want it all right that's a bit tighter hey there's actually a button back here too oh oh no it's a it's just a relay i think right i'll just connect that battery and we'll try again oh yeah nice right look at that we've got smoke well it's getting fuel nice look at that that's gonna go i reckon it's making smoke rings oh nice i wonder if down should be completely off in theory yep ah well it's getting fuel that's for sure what that's that white smoke heated up [Music] oh flat already is it [Music] oh yeah that's hot there oh yeah there's a bad connection on that one so we'll take that off and give it a sand yeah it's right on that bulb so must be a bit of rust in there oh he's gonna go ah up what she doesn't want to read really okay okay maybe when it warms up it won't might not be running on all cylinders it sounds like it's not running on them so long still doesn't warmed up [Music] [Music] bit of a funny noise it wasn't when you were revving it was going this is a bit of a buzzing noise maybe it's the angle or something oh that's sweet it's alive place one smoke ring when it wants that yeah tracking was that were they pretty even no it's um that way the left-hand side is stronger than the right right okay oh hey i mean it's alive for a thousand dollars you can't go too far wrong i need another thousand twelve hundred to get it get it delivered yeah to get it to your place yeah yeah i reckon it's worth doing hey so what's the plan do we wanna just do a bit of maintenance on it here and yeah i think so because it's quite a drive for it yeah to get it down give it a good going over do some filters and oils yep and just check everything yep sounds good look how cool this is this yeah it's awesome man yeah i like yeah i've really gone the distance to put jcb you know yeah it's a proper industrial machine yeah they were they were proud of it now i'm proud of it yeah there's a lot of heat coming from there but that's [Music] that's from the radiator anyway is it yeah it was quite a hike up there though right yeah that at least it's hot it's circulating so we know the water pump's all good oh right it's got it's got freaking um heater a heater is it oh she's a luxury that oh yeah is it hot yep it's the spec out model wow don't know how much heat you'd keep in there with that window yeah oh it's got a roll down visor thing isn't it yeah it looks like that's been open for a while yeah a little leaves and yeah stuff in it and water and seats wet yep but uh no computer on this one so lucky just the bare basics really isn't it oh none of the gauges work no i was having a look at that as well that's uh not even the oil pressure we look at that yeah oh well it is what it is so did you have to use these handbrakes at all um i don't think they work oh okay seize them yeah does that just lock the tracks up i suppose yeah well that's got nothing well we needed that yeah no that was like nothing it's nice nothing happened yeah nothing here that one's just a lot yeah then bring some gloves [Music] it's an illusion [Laughter] [Music] don't drop a spot on the ground never do that no way ready yep nice and clean yep sweet yep there's no seal or anything on that it's just yeah it's just what it is oh it's tapered isn't it [Music] it could be yes old ones are [Music] you wouldn't want to lose that then would you no that's too much so that's about about 18 liters yeah 18 maybe yeah we should just have enough are you [Applause] so [Music] [Music] [Music] noise in the hydraulic system so maybe change the filters and oils and if that doesn't help we'll look at the valves and possibly strip that hydraulic pump down and see what's going on and get to the bottom of that noise but um everything else seems to be going fine it's got plenty of power and doesn't leak in the oil so it's doing pretty well for a 50 year old excavator um my mate can do a bit of work around this place now he's got a pond to dig and a few tracks to put in so hopefully we'll come back and check his progress at some stage thanks for watching guys see you next time
