I saw this a while back. I find it really disrespecrful the way he talked to his folks. The old woman mentions it, but she is just like, he wouldn't even have a life if I didn't take him in. And she tried her best to raise him in an Asian dominat environment.

While it's in a way a very cool video, and granny really loves him. It looks like he suffers in life and is heavily depressed.

He didn't smile once, he bites off and even the camera man asks him "You can tell you're different from us right?"

He probably has been treated as an outcast his entire life.

HE WASN'T BEING DISRESPECTFUL. His true intentions cannot be shown in English translation. In China especially in older more rural areas people are very straightforward and frank about things. Bland=Delicate flavor, Strange= different/unique. He knew he was being filmed so he would be careful not to be rude. Just a different culture and the way the chinese language is.

I've seen this kid on WeChat before. While I'm glad his adoptive grandma took him in and raised him in a healthy and loving environment, I can only imagine that he's got a lot more emotional baggage than a fully-Chinese adopted orphan (these are quite common and I've known a few myself). First there's the circumstance surrounding his birth and the fact that he was dumped, and then there's the constantly being asked questions. I wouldn't be surprised if he grows older and ends up a huge misanthrope, lol.

Junlong: 18 28 (video game) OK he died. (video game) Junlong: I don't eat this grandma: Why? Junlong: Introducing myself is such a big hassle for me. Junlong: My name is Zhu Junlong. I am currently living in Shanghai. Pudong New District. live right here in this place. To be honest, I don't know exactly where my home is (Zhu Junlong was interviewed in a TV show) Host: Do others frequently ask you where you are from? Junlong: When I first meet someone 6 out of 10 would ask this question Host: Your stats are so clear. How would you have answered this question then? Junlong: I would say:" China. " Host: So you said: " I am a truly authentic Shanghainese from China. Junlong: Enh. (yes) Host: Have you noticed that you're different from us? Junlong: How did I find out (about this difference)? I found out myself I found out most of it by myself. when you were little, wasn't it easy to find it out? like I'm different from people around. so you just pay some attention to it and listen to others talking. you'll understand and know almost everything of it. Grandma (in Shanghai dialect) : It was by a small alley not a main road (when he was found). He was in a bush jungle by a small trail Someone left him by the grass It was a hot summer so he would've gotten sunstroke to death rather than frozen. He appeared to get sweat rash on his skin that started to blister. If you don't help this kid, it wouldn't take another two hours for him to lose his little life so you can't wait a moment. I had to wash him at least three times a day at home keep washing him with things like toothpaste. After a week of doing this, his sweat rash came to fade away (the heat rash) started to be gone. You know. I took care of him with carefulness, real carefulness (My son) was married for three years at that time. They were a bit impatient in getting a baby, not me It doesn't matter a young couple get their baby a bit later. Then I run across this little baby It could be so called " kill two birds with one stone." His life was saved while my son and daughter-in-law had a baby to look after. Had someone else found him, he might've not lived in this world. When I saw him, it was not like I wanted a child in particular. But his life may be gone Saving a life outweighs everything else. All the things in the future were not on my mind. like how to raise him, how to live my life etc I didn't think that much. I just wanted to save a life. In Pudong (Shanghai), we have a custom that A little kid would turn white after growing up for a few months. In the beginning, I had no idea he was black. I thought a little kid born in Shanghai had to be a Chinese. Junlong: It was too hot too hot. Grandma: So you take your time to eat since you don't have to get to work afterwords. You eat a bit slowly Junlong: Is there any soup left? Grandma: what? Junlong: you cooked so little soup today? Grandma: Isn't it good? Junlong: so little? ok, forget it. Grandma: if you wanna eat it, I can cook you some more in a little while. Junlong: forget it, I don't wanna eat fish. This fish tastes good Grandma: good? Junlong: it tastes very strange. Grandma: How? Junlong: too bland. Grandma: bland? Junlong: it's tasteless. Junlong: no little yellow croaker left? little yellow croaker! Grandma: no, nothing left. Junlong: You just bought 3 fish yesterday? Junhu (Junlong's little brother): That's not my biological brother. What about you? Junhu: I'm not his biological younger brother either. So you were also brought home from outside by your mom? Junhu: yes! what did your mom say to you? Junhu: my mom said: " My older brother and I were found in different places." My older brother was found by the road but me by the bush Who told you so? Junhu: My grandma. (note: Junhu is one of the biological grandchidren of grandma according to the testimony document shown earlier. So grandma lied to him) Grandma: Put it simply, looking after this kid was really hard (video archive of Zhu Junlong's childhood) Grandma: My own grandchildren of my son and daughter-in-law, I never took care of them. I never even cuddled them in my arms. But for him (Junlong), I didn't want to put him down once he's in my arms. I was worried that he might tamper with ohters' stuff. I feared that he might play around with the water. He plugged the electric wire into the socket in our old apartment. Bang! it sparked a fire! I was so scared! What I was concerned about is that our own children are fine but he's different. Should an accident happen outside, to put it charitably, this is a naughty boy. But to put it harshly, you did not concern yourself with a kid not of your own. Yow know? I've been always concerned about this. I've always told my baby to achieve something One for our nation the other for us so that others wouldn't mock us as this is not your child and you did not devote yourself to him.... so on and so forth. Junlong: she would absolutely... she said previously that there is a generational gap between us that was exemplified in the fact that she felt something I did was weird. So there were several things I couldn't boldly do. And her vision was different from hers right now. she imagined that once I hung out, a car would crash on me. Or she already figured it out for me that I fell from a tree or got burnt by fire etc. Something like that. She already figured that out for me. I can't (let go of him) I don't want to talk about money as my life has gone this far. The child is mine. You know? A kid is after all a life whereas money is gone when it's gone. But finally the kid is mine. I won't leave him alone But I would have to should I pass away This pic was taken right after we had his hukou (note: household registration for every Chinese citizen) registered and walked out of the Police office. It was near Oriental Pearl Tower Junlong: I'd have had my hukou registered since I was very little since Your health insurance requires you get an injection in the hospital with a (valid) hukou. So at that time my grandma took me everywhere and ran (for hukou) All kinds of offices in Shanghai. once a week or even once every day. (we) walked outside every day. I felt that at that time I kept walking and walking..... I felt I walked so much when I was a little kid that I disliked walking at all at later stage of my life. Because she wholeheartedly wanted to get this thing done in that period of time. It was hard for someone to completely commit herself to something let alone for 3 to 4 years so she eventually got it done before she repeatedly talked to me about this. Despite its being pretty normaI, I always felt a serious headache on hearing this. Grandma: it (hukou) was issued on May 14 when he was 15. There were three directors above Municipal, bureau and district levels. I did all this in person. I did it all by myself without resorting to anyone else. Grandma: Since he entered the school one and half months late, he could not even read 26 letters. he did not like study in the beginning. The teachers asked him to recite everything, keep note of everything, write everything down by hear... but he couldn't understand it at all. He had to run out twice in a 45 min session. He did not want to study. did not understand a bit of English. Later an American teacher saw this on Wechat The police department gave a call to the residents committee The residents committee brought the teacher over here. They just meant that you old lady had such a great heart to raise this expat child We also have this loving heart to tutor him English. Junlong: Each time I met someone, he/she asked me what you aspire to do in the future. What kind of person you want to be in the future or what do you think you will be like? I don't like being asked this way as always. I haven't thought about the future in detail. It's not like I don't have a dream rather, I haven't fixed it on something. I sincerely wanted to bring him up well raise him well. so that he could live his own life on his own hands. and have a bright future. All I'm concerned with right now is that Should I leave this world early, This little kid still wouldn't be able to achieve anything life would be tough on him You know? So I put this right in my heart. You know? I can't talk it all aloud on the outside but have to keep it here in my heart. Junlong : Is it hot outside? Is it hot outside today? Grandma: it's neither hot nor cold today. Grandpa: it's going to rain the coming Monday. Junlong: you're telling me about Monday but I was asking about today. Grandpa: No rain today. Zhu Junlong is currently a student of Shanghai Jianqiao vocational polytechnic institute, Applied Computer Science major. The level of difficulty in this major is beyond his imagination so he has to start self-study boarding at school.
