[Music] right so we've had a phone call we've been waiting for this phone call and Ceejay from Premium Parts has invited us down he says you guys like to start things up so would you like to come down and start this up it's a CX 500 Honda and it's done 39 miles and it's not run since 1981. so it's virtually a Brand New Bike and it's been standing all that time so answer is yeah so we were up at the crack of Dawn this morning we've driven for two hours we're here now we're just about to go and have a look at the bike so lets do it [Music] [Music] right so here she is CX 500. with 39 miles on clock and as far as We Know it hasn't run since 1981. I don't think anybody's tried to run it um CJ's got it in it's premium parts right although he breaks bikes obviously yeah yeah this one's not a breaker is it this one's staying in all in one piece if anybody wants to buy it it is for sale but today we're going to do things a little bit differently normally when we do startup videos we'll just get some starting fluid and we'll just spray it down the Yap spin it over and if it fires it fires if not it don't we just move it on but that's with the bikes that from jem with greatest respect to jem his bikes are projects this we're going to treat with respect like a ladies we're going to respect it so the idea is first thing we're going to do is get some oil in the cylinders and get it to turn over hopefully it will turn over so let's get on with it right they look like 19 millimeters yep we'll get these out get this done first of all and get some oil in well that plug does not look like it's done a lot does it so just show that camera which one so that plug I don't know if that's going to focus but that plug has done about 39 miles obviously it's not that we need to prove that this has done about 39 miles because it is obvious it's quite a fiddle to get out I'm gonna have to just stop and calm down a bit I'm so excited genuinely genuinely so excited you've got turkey baster that'll work we've mixed a little bit of two stroke oil TT Trial Pro strawberry scented because we just want to look after it cylinders a little bit we don't know if we've got a little bit of ring Ridge so there you go let's have a bit more all right I can actually see top of the piston there can you get in and see that it looks really clean I think we're about to focus on it no I think we can it's not gonna focus too well even if it does get past rings and gets into oil because we're going to drop oil out later right so there was a bit of a question to whether this has actually done the miles that it says and when Ceejay took it to a show ideally he wanted to sell it and people were walking past and saying that this must have had clocks changed it can't be can't be 39 miles because nobody would buy a bike and just leave it and not ride it but it does have a bit of rust on it because it's probably been kept outside for some length of time but when you see things like this outside of disc there's absolutely nowhere the disc is absolutely like brand new I don't think you can actually get into see pads but the pads are brand new there's been no spray up onto this part usually you'll see if it's been ridden the bobbles on the tires and these we've had a quick look for a date on the tyres and we can't find a date on the tyres but um I think back in these days they didn't do that but when you look around the thing you look for wear on the foot pegs there's nothing no wear on any other rubbers other than the fuel tank which has got to be said the fuel tank is horrendous and that's its not very often you see that is it? yeah so yeah so now you can see it absolutely red Rusty right to the bottom so no matter what happened with this bike we can't use that tank to start it up today let's put that back on just leave that as it is shall we take the seat off battery oh yeah saw the original battery there will still be a date on that as well won't they what do you think sometimes put a date on batteries I believe so original tool kit that's obviously never been out you answer I'll just film that kind of cheers mate so original toolkit that's obviously never been out and if you look behind here if a bike's been ridden and through any kind of weather that would be filthy inside it's all mint it's all like brand new and so is this it's just unreal other than the the actual weathering on the Chrome that's interesting everything's been etched you see they've put numbers on it on just about everything I've seen on a few things now if you have seen this etching before leave us a comment because I would love to know exactly what it is yeah on the mud guard there look could be evidence could be as silly as it sounds it might have got a real history you don't you don't know do you it could have been I don't know someone could have robbed a bank and bought this with the money yeah yeah and then had it repossessed yeah you just never know I mean it's just been should we just make some story up and we'll just roll with it does it have a Nova yeah just don't know where it's been stored or where and why or no it must have been stored outside yeah yeah it just shows you with the how bad the condensation has been to get in there in that tank I do wonder if that is just paint that's holding on yeah probably soft flimsy and thin into it yeah you do see it with some American bikes perfect for somebody who wants to restore one hmm you know nothing's worn out is it no it seems like the switches all the lettering there you know it's not yeah everything just operates still got pressure in it are they free as well you think yeah yeah Wheels it pushes around yeah great words yeah amazing etching again there look 097583598 [Music] three five nine eight now that is three five nine eight so it's three five nine eight I've never noticed that three five nine eight yes it's the same etching on all the parts I wonder if it's just it's like a way of data tagging it must be yeah yeah must be really right should we get this tank up and off and I'll wait because we're gonna have to get that wiring it sometime aren't we what's it uh 12 or 13. oh actually it's loose I can never find the right one when you need it all right I'll put this bolt back in here no that's if that's not 39 miles worth of can you see it's where it's been actually moulded in the bobbles all the way around that tyre has done absolutely nothing so absolutely no doubt in my mind this is a 39 mile bike so as Ceejay says if anybody did want to restore one this is just the best to begin with there you go I want to get that battery off as well and find out I brought a boost pack just in case oh yeah yeah we got batteries about this size it's not 14 yb14l Maybe yeah this place eats batteries I bet it does whole finger tighten up I'm not sure with it maybe somebody pulled it out after so many years to sell it and for a while trying to get it running or you just don't know oh that doesn't look good it's always all swelled and broke I just all of a sudden feel old 42 it's 42 yeah 42 years since this has been started yes potentially yeah does the air filter needs to come off? you get to it oh dear let's get air filter out because I think that's all that's all perished and gone funny oh we've got spider nests and all sorts look at that yeah what I didn't want is to have that I've all perished and turned to powder and then we try and fire it up pulls it straight in it's not actually that bad but it's it's clean isn't it but it's definitely perished yeah spiders inside there mould I'm not gonna put that back on mate because that'll uh could do with giving it a little bit of a scoosh out or should we take what do you think should we take that off the filter box it'll be easier to get carbs out it's enough to move it back yeah right I can't see how that filter box bolts in [Music] foreign [Music] yes and I will try and get this disconnected because this I'm gonna be hot wiring aren't we yeah so yeah we don't have any uh keys for this so we're gonna have to get the ignition out and try and hot wire it uh only trouble is access to the plug is a bit fiddly they don't make this simple very frustrating you know if you were trying to steal the bike you'd just come over and you'd just literally smash this off and then you'd be riding away in two minutes but if you want to get it off in one piece it's fiddliest thing you will to do so how is it security its just not yeah it's only awkward if you like the bike yeah if you push it from that side I'll push it from this side can you pull it go right now you should just be able to bridge those start it up the two heavy ones aren't they it'll be red and black for getting ignition on I think and then green okay what do you think yeah that should work though shall we get these carbs yeah get them clean yea get them zapped up that's for the choke isn't it yeah should we try and try and disconnect car pull carb out a little bit it would be a lot easier wouldn't it all right one second just pull that one and I'm just about out this side can you see the head maybe if we can push that into should we take these rubbers out give yourself a lot more room they are really Supple they're not going to be a pain to get back in oh yeah I'll I'll live for that I'll do it I'll put it back in that's it easy enough a 10 hour video of you getting them back [Laughter] once carbs are away that should be easy enough that's it I think we can get to that one now yep well it's a good job this is not awkward there you go a bit more access now I did the training gynaecology always choke cable off hey there you go does that give you a bit more slack certainly yes sir it's off great re moved and it's going to be interesting to see what these are like inside so what's your plan you want to take it all to bits or no no me neither I'll be happy just to take top off at the bottom off it's a pleasure because they're normally knackered by the time I get to them there you go ugh not too bad it's not bad is it look how varnished on it look how dark is it's like decking stain take them home and do your fence if you want? no it's an interesting smell [Laughter] look at them Jets they're gonna be fun to clean foreign yeah that was actually loose I think they're all loose watch how easy that is missed on pdi by looks of it it's literally his pdi though isn't it yeah there were things going wrong that they would have missed on PDI yeah I wonder if you've done any recalls or anything yeah it's missed it's not stuck on is it where have you been mister Don't Force It should use a [ __ ] hammer that's uh that's on there hold it in place there you go that's 42 years worth of fuel you got a little uh little poker well that's not got much on it same time no not as well thank you trying to lift this one out with the floats there you go yeah that ones got a bit of varnish on it I'm just trying to clean the slot in she said said the actress to the bishop oh that went with a satisfying crack didn't it blocked oh yeah can I see it if you can see that completely blocked you can get right behind it no absolutely blocked just where you do it perfectly and then I round it off like an absolute moron we'll see here you go yeah completely blocked solid as well I think we knew that though didn't we well another rough idea you can see light through that oh yeah that's two blocked up right I don't want to get them mixed up I'm going to put that over there for time being okay you got that spanner Ceejay have to use the open-ended it's going to be tight right to the end because it's all gummed up with that varnish carbs not actually as bad as I thought it was going to be you know peels leaked through the carbs too yeah that one's worse than the other that's blocked up I believe let's see if you can see through it oh yeah we can just see through all right I'm gonna screw that gently back into there so we know which ones they need to clean the one slot out oh suits you sir oh oh noooo what its done to that came straight out helps have this really good screwdriver though all loose these oh yours comes out oh yeah foreign she's got a bit of a ring around it there with fuels separated there did you just break it hey yeah come here you've got no business barking at people around here it's not your territory mate that's why it was jammed in there there you go that's nasty would that be the left or the right one that is a left because it's been sitting its side stand yeah is that as far down as we're going should we just clean them at that what do you think Ceejay it is really loose foreign [Laughter] [Music] these travel adapters all right just turned it on and that's holding it it shocked me I'll Chuck the Jets and stuff in there [ [Music] oh yeah yeah definitely I can see piston coming to the top it's really clean imagine if plugs are in oh yeah we're good we're good excellent yeah cool right yeah can you tell me again nipped my little finger you did it on purpose yeah let me get my bearings here so that was something like that that needs pulling around there like that ouch I'm glad you'll find it funny do you want to do it not necessarily I thought you'd say that not that these are a pain in the arse to get back in but they're a pain in the arse to get back in I came out no no this isn't awkward in the slightest I'm all good what time there you go clunk what that's not the right one yes I've put the wrong one on is that the right one you've choked on camera I have yeah that was not even slightly awkward absolutely fine this job's got Ceejay written all over it we can't give up to you yeah we can't do that we're not made of that stuff here he goes just as I say I'm about to give up so pull is in okay you got it show these are the right carbs and did they come off this bike doesn't seem like it does it so we just test that yep beautiful that's the bit we're gonna put in edit all that struggling out do you mind if I bent your spanner strange uh this kind of stuff makes me so happy we must do it must make you happy but you're doing it a lot more than I am subliminally yeah sadistic pleasure to it did you say you got a bent spanner because it will be ideal just to finally nip this one up no I've got that oh made for the job no it's not no it's not that's not made for the job yeah it's too much bentness right I'm happy with that I'm gonna I'm gonna call that done even though it's not quiet we're gonna call that done and then we're gonna pretend we got it all the way in time right up this is just the most awkward thing you've ever seen ever ever it made the job a lot easier oh you bastard it's all jumped out again the uh I won't be told you know okay because you can't just can't tell some people [Laughter] we're gonna whiz it off um do it starter then to see if it to actually run we've got boost pack connected we've rolled engine over now um we've disconnected the ignition because we don't have a key so this is the new key so let's turn boost back on by the way these boost packs we'll leave a link to them in the description best thing I ever bought yeah they're a bit bigger it's massive that one absolutely huge no they don't do one bigger than that apart from the one that's massive yeah yeah we're on there we go right do you want to do the honesty Jay I'll hold the rag so crap it doesn't go everywhere right isn't much coming out drives a ball no that one's wet right so it's done its job then ain't it it's all beautiful I'm just giving another wazzle I know yeah we're all good yeah yeah it's kicking sweet yeah nothing coming out of that one though so there's nothing to stop us then now is the pull the plugs in yeah get some fuel to it firing it up oh this is exciting plugs please uh I'd like to do it outside just in case because you never know it's a map so if you're sitting watching this now and you're thinking oh I've got one of these bikes in back of my garage it's not started in 35 years give us a shout we'll come down we'll get it going for you and we'll make a good video out of it outside we'll leave the side panels yeah well there's a key we should have really checked for Sparks shouldn't we to be fair well we should have done yeah oh yours is much safer than mine if anyone's got any information on background or previous owners of this bike or in the USA let us know or leave us a comment or if you've got any leads that could point us in right direction again leave us a comment all that we do know it was last registered in New York in 1981 and that registration sticker ran out in 1987 so it was going to seal off his vacuum pipe and then it's time for this to start for the first time in 42 years that's nearly as long as I've been alive no comment uh do I have to put that in half afterwards don't we yeah so we turn that on sweet just being boost yeah sweet cool and we're on board we're not going to use that we're not going to use that what we're saying then first start 42 years first time I'm thinking yeah oh my God she's going a bit of shock Maybe oh yeah yes oh no that's rubbery foreign [Music] lights off [Music] don't let your coffee reckon warm day in it look at that oh [Music] you're missing a little bit I want to do something to do with that no the best fight was definitely coming from the right side come on that I think [Applause] [Music] we quickly pulled out the spark plug caps just to see if we could identify it that way it wasn't spot related so we assumed it would only be fuel or maybe compression related [Laughter] no it's firing all right yeah yeah it must be fuel then I say it could be a sticky valve or something it's been opened that many years so with the oil nice and warm we decided it'd be a good time to drop it out and change it for some cleaner six million year old fluid for the Yorkshire management what to save that and use it again tomorrow [Music] and now I'm gonna find the time [Music] as a possibility it could have been a stuck valve maybe a sticky ring so we decided to whip the cover off to make sure that all the valves are moving immaculately what do you think is that something that's from 39 miles oh yeah free as a bite and then we did a compression test compression test was really strong it's a really really healthy engine as you'd expect for one that had done 39 miles [Music] so we then switched the coil packs over from the right side to the left and vice versa to see if the problem would Chase from one side to the other but it didn't it remained on the right cylinder [Music] we were fairly confident it was still a fueling issue so we decided to take off the bottom of the carb and have a little bit of an inspection of the quality of the fuel it's like a little nugget s that's what you're saying in there we had great access to the Jets so we decided to just whip them out blow them through with a little bit of a compressed air and put those back just in case there was anything we'd missed on the first time we cleaned the carbs foreign just like that this fire was gone [Music] [Music] this bike could possibly be the lowest mileage CX 500 of its time in the world and it is for sale so if anybody wants the honor of buying this bike and restoring it to its former glory or if you just want to leave it exactly as it is and just run it around as a Survivor which is exactly what it is CJ will be auctioning this bike off on eBay on his eBay store so we will leave a link to that in the description but it will be a few weeks after this video is
