captivates is the consistent evolution of airlines in our industry one's project which is poised to redefine travel is Quan's project Sunrise a venture that with the a350 1000 aims to shatter the existing boundary dictated by Australia's geographical positioning which isn't necessarily ideal in reaching key markets project Sunrise is an initiative outlined by Quantus with a view of basically establishing non-stop flights between Australia's East Coast cities of Sydney and Melbourne first towards vital International destinations particularly those of say London and New York but reaching to other cities in Europe North America potentially Africa South America May Rio de Janeiro and more the point very much is just to use the capabilities of the Jets selected to enable Quantas to have endless opportunities of markets it'll be able to serve from Australia and to better compete with established Global airlines that have across the last decade or so probably come into the Australian market and taken more of the market share away from the flag carrier than ideally liked quantis wants to change that the news of such a project project certainly made headlines when it was first announced many people considered it ambitious to a certain extent as well but Quantas was certainly determined and they said that the launch of project Sunrise would help address demand in the passenger Market alongside an appetite for Ultra longrange travel basically eliminating stopovers from a journey and giving passengers a quicker and more streamlined flight to their end destination flights such as these being performed also efficiently when now possible thanks to the enhancements visible in the next generation of Fleet whether in narrow or wide bodies the new era was upon us when Quantus outlined these plans two aircraft were immediately thrown into the equation as options for project Sunrise fittingly they were from Airbus and Boeing throwing two decade old competitors once more against each other to try and win over a contract and arguably it was an important one no it didn't promise say 300 units but once Airborne we know that project Sunrise is going to Garner a lot of interest and given the chosen manufacturer the chance really to show off what its specific aircraft type would be capable of with a prospective further enhancement it was the a350 and the 7x that were pitted against each other as really The Front Runners for the deal these manufacturers therefore began the marathon of pitching their aircraft to Quantas showcasing what the planes can do to really ensure that they they stood the best chance of winning that contract when decision time occurred however it always felt like there was one aircraft type that was ahead of the other in the race the a350 leading from the front many argue that this was primarily thanks to the a350 being a proven type at this point remember that's not to say that the tri 7x won't be or isn't but it is yet to be certified whereas in 2018 2019 and so forth when these decisions were being made the a350 was flying and had a growing customer base that could share the successes with Quantus Quantus would go on to select the a350 1000 after much deliberation and Following also an a350 World Tour that conveniently headed to a land down under to showcase the capabilities to quantis in person the tour allowed quantis Engineers Executives and crew to jump aboard a special flight over Sydney to basically understand what the aircraft type could offer them now the company is never going to publicly say that this played a massive role in its end decision but it's certainly not hard to see why elements such as these gave AAS a bit of a Competitive Edge because of basically the distance between the routes I touched on say you're Melbourne to London and Sydney to London these routes are representing some of the largest commercial air rots globally basically requiring the planning to be to an absolute te and obviously on top of that a passenger experience that needs to make the journey as best as possible not a burden it seemed like a no-brainer when it became apparent that Airbus could develop a purpose-built variant for Quantas the a 351000 many would argue ulr with extended range capabilities specifically again built for these Quantas flights remember that Quan's project Sunrise flights initially also had an earlier start date than 26 but now we've seen persistent delays ironically because of delays in obtaining the a350 from Airbus this leads to the next point on the trip 7x this was an aircraft that was not certified when the airline was exploring options and to be honest it still isn't certified now when I'm making this video while it presented a very compelling option with its various updates and is a good aircraft you'd argue that there was potentially risks associated with purchasing this and not knowing when delivery could be secured that sounds pretty hypocritical now considering that the a350 delays are delaying the project Sunrise launch but at least one of them is certified and at least in the eyes of quantis while frustrating they believe that there was more of an upside to taking air bus's wide bodies selecting the a350 1000 was also another interesting Factor primarily because we know Airbus offers the a350 900 is as well and notably Singapore Airlines uses the a350 900 ulr in an all premium configuration to basically offer also some of the world's longest flights across its Global route Network so what was the reason behind taking the -1000 and not the ulr that was basically sitting there well factors such as a higher capacity that is present on the -1000 was something definitely worth taking into account when Quantus identified plans to launch project Sunrise it did so with a pretty big development while the density would primarily lean towards higher cabin classes Quant said that it 100% would be including an economy on these planes Quantas believed it was essential to have this for your average traveler they wanted to board these L haul Services the capacity increase of the -1000 paired with airbus's ability to really offer a purpose-built A3 50 to the company meant it was a massive Advantage ultimately Quan's decision to select the a350 for its project Sunrise Fleet made much sense to the company and while there have been obvious delays in acquiring the jet again I say ironically because the same thing is happening with the trip 7x and is why Quantas may have leaned the way of the a350 it is pitted as the best possible decision and they still back that to this day when the aircraft is finally Airborne completing project Sunrise flight it'll arguably be a sight to behold do you feel airbus's wide body was the best decision All Things Considered or should have quantis taken the punt and stuck with the trip 7x with so much uncertainty over that certification program you can let me know your thoughts Down Below in the comments thank you very much for your support here on the channel take care be safe and I'll see you in a couple days for the latest industry analysis [Music] oh Fly Away
