in some cases the manufacturer might not deem a rival aircraft from a rival competitor as worthy of launching their own plane 4 say the cons May outweigh the pros in some instances manufacturers may also misinterpret interest in an aircraft and therefore not proceed with their own Endeavor that can then be described as a mistake we've actually seen this happen a few times but if there's one thing the industry has shown us across the last several decades is that responding to aircraft that are enjoying success can be hugely important in not just maintaining market share but also that of customers who may be inclined to head elsewhere if you as a manufacturer do not battle with your competitor adequately in a certain Market most would argue that the Boeing nma or lack thereof is one of the key responses that was not offered to airbus's continued advancements in the middle of the market sector and you'd be correct but there also is a lack of a significant response to another aircraft in part of the market share although Boeing definitely has something to say regarding that evidence would suggest otherwise that is the single Isle Regional area where Airbus has successfully positioned itself with its a220 of course this aircraft type is smaller than the A320 Neo and we know Airbus acquired the program when it was known as the C Series in the latter stages of the 2010s and arguably Boeing doesn't have an immediate response to this let's begin with the Boeing 717 this is a fantastic aircraft many would describe it as a pocket rocket and it served the industry well for a considerable period in fact it's quite upsetting to now see it being removed as another slice of that aviation history Parts but now in the 2020s for companies that are by some miracle still flying This Plane the downsides far outweigh the positives and when you compare Next Generation aircraft to this one naturally the limitations of the 717 become all that more present most companies are looking to find ways to replace it rather than retaining it as technology has progressed it's also become apparent that the 717s capabilities just don't Stack Up thus this jet over next eration planes can't compete like I touched on for Boeing to replace the 717 at any point it wouldn't be as simple as a re engine instead likely we need to see a comprehensive redesign which would have cost a lot of money to put it plain and simple it also would have taken up a significant amount of resources by no means as well is the 717 Market that big yes the a220 is a fantastic plane for Airlines but it's certainly not on the levels of say an a321 Neo or even the max therefore Boeing could definitely perceive this Market as not one worth entering because of the money required to overhaul the 717 and really offer a clean sheet Airbus has one in this sector because they didn't technically build the a220 from scratch we know it was previously the C Series and the aircraft manufacturer then went on to purchase a program that to a certain extent was already a proven asset it then re branded it and took it in as its own and there have been some Associated difficulties with this program but at least it wasn't Started From Scratch by Boeing not moving forward with a 717 replacement however or an aircraft to really fend off even in Brea Boeing is really doing the one thing that so many analysts have argued is the wrong decision and backs away from Innovation that is putting all your eggs in the one basket and that one basket just so happens to be in the single loal Market the 737 Max family the max is actually when flying proved to be a fantastic aircraft as all the figures add up to being a success but the one thing that cannot be escaped is persistent problems this could be caused not just by Boe but suppliers amid a general race for profits among other visible concerns the Max has not really enjoyed a smooth run in now scarily 6 years or so and because of this your airlines are feeling the heat in fact now towards the Midway point of 2024 two variants still remain uncertified and as a result even if Boeing did say pitch the 7377 as an aircraft defend off the a220 it's not certified the Airbus a220 C Series and more is also an aircraft type that Boeing pushed heavy against that's a story for another day but it highlighted how Boeing believed that there was a risk to its market share despite push back from other entities that didn't believe this to be the case this overreliance that we've seen on the max does pose significant limitations and risks for Boeing and their customers and that's been proven time and time again I did mention the a220 and I'd like to stick with that given I'm taking a look at Boeing's lack of a response Airbus has long seen the a220 as an aircraft that can continue Making a Splash in markets around the world mainly there is a lot of interest in potentially stretching the aircraft further interestingly the plane maker has said on several occasions that it would be a matter of when rather than if while we have not had this official launch of the dubbed a 22500 Airbus has confirmed most recently only last month that it really wants to focus on the two existing variants stabilizing the program and production before it moved forward with anything else the variant I speak of is also hot on the radar of several other a220 customers who believe a stretch would be very ideal in the eyes of Boeing however a prospective stretch would be just fine for customers at the same time they believe and while a stretch would add capacity and therefore pose more of a threat to the troubled 737 Max Boeing only as long ago as the 2023 edition of the Paris Air Show stated that them as a manufacturer can compete with an a220 500 and fend off any prospective interest thanks to its 7 37 Max program arguably probably done so through the 7377 but this plane is uncertified additionally Boeing believes that a new a220 variant could also go against key Pathways that have been outlined by Airbus in the recent times this is maybe saying going against a focus on commonality and to be fair they think that an A2 2500 could potentially deter further A320 Neo purchasers Airbus however has used the a220 at times to try and get customers to move away from Boeing as seen through the attempts with Southwest a longtime Boeing customer Airbus argued that given much of what had happened with Boeing sticking with the Max and therefore putting all your eggs in the one basket would be risky and at the same time well what happened to Southwest they chose to stay loyal the persistent though financial burden from staying loyal among delayed deliveries plus other problems have come come back to bite Southwest and yes maybe while they don't regret their decision and got a fantastic deal the words by Airbus couldn't be true at certain points however Boeing's true lack of a 717 replacement has allowed Airbus to pounce with its a220 and we've seen also the persistent Innovation with imraa and their eets Quantas group is a fantastic example nowadays with their Regional division Quantus link as how an airline has moved away from the 717 after a delightful period operating the jet but has selected the a220 to power the regional Fleet for decades to come instead of moving to Boeing's 737 Max program this is being seen across the industry with other Airline customers as well highlighting the urgent need for Boeing to respond to these Innovations to maintain its market share but now as you'd probably argue it's too late for that and many are looking towards Boeing's next iteration of an aircraft whether single AIS widebody or more in the 2030s as their next and really last chance to get these markets back under control if you have any thoughts on Boeing's lack of an a220 response or maybe you're in the camp where you believe the 737 Max is the perfect a220 rival you can let me know Down Below in
