A happy week of classes & reading 🪴 building a new chair + winter walks

[Music] so [Music] do [Music] [Music] hi guys so it's extremely cold it's like negative three or something and then there's a wind chill so it's even colder but i'm just taking a little breather and then i'm going to continue on my way i've been really enjoying taking morning walks this week so yeah it is 12 o'clock on the nose so i'm gonna be out here for a little bit longer but i'm gonna go back and probably film another video so um that is the plan hi guys welcome to tuesday um i'm back from my walk and i have some reading updates and i think i want to film a whole bunch of videos today but i haven't really like super planned any i might just go for it anyway and try to make them very spontaneous i have some not bookish videos i want to film and then i have like um this project that is kind of like a re reoccurring yes um thing so i kind of know what i'm doing for that but we'll see so the first thing obviously is tolstoy i don't speak too much about this in like weekly vlogs because like i said i'm filming a whole thing about this but i'm now 260 pages through i've been trying to read like about 10 pages every day just so i can really like take a lot of time with those set 10 pages and then that way i'll have it finished by the end of the month and i can like really deeply go into details and analysis and thoughts and really form um solid opinions on this book 10 pages by 10 pages so um i have yet to read my 10 pages today so i'm going to be doing that hopefully this afternoon and then with convenience store women i am 54 pages through i listened to this a lot last night and a little bit this morning um i think i have about 100 pages left i'm really liking it yeah so our main character is keiko and she's worked at the same store for 18 years she definitely had a lot of trouble adjusting and being like everyone else all the way from like kindergarten or elementary school all the way up until now so she spends a lot of her life trying to emulate and copy and mimic those around her to try and get the right vocal intonations to try and reply in ways that would be normal answers to questions or to things she copies people's voice patterns she even snoops around in um a few women that she's working with she snoops around in like their makeup bag she checks the brand of their shoes or their purses to try and figure out what someone a woman of her age should be wearing or what is like the average normal thing that people do because she really just doesn't have any concept or any idea of how to be like your everyday person so yeah there's that um part of this novel and then a lot of it is obviously about kind of not really only the convenience store but retail consumerism what it's like working in these places and then the convenience store the part i'm at they just hired a new guy his name is i think and he's really grating on my nerves oh my gosh he's definitely like he's definitely the villain of the story even though there's not really a villain um in this like contemporary little book about a convenience store but he is just oh my gosh he comes into the store and thinks that like he knows everything thinks that the world of the convenience store is just so beneath him that he couldn't possibly need training that he knows how to do everything and then his first shift there he just completely ignores everything lets the store fall into chaos into a mess and keiko is like what on earth are you doing do you need me to teach you how to like clean up bottles and stuff and he's like there's nothing to learn when you work in retail or a convenience store and he's just so superior and it's so frustrating i like really hate reading about people like this which is part of the reason why i'm like really struggling to get through youth now because our protagonist in here is really just becoming way too superior and oh my gosh it's just really creating on my nerves so other than that i'm really really loving it it's very like you can like hear this book you can hear like the clicking of the cache and you can hear the bottles in the refrigerator and like the hum of the electricity and yeah so i'm really really liking it um and then last night i'm not far through this at all i only listened to the preface last night which i think is 10 pages and the preface is by lloyd w.m lloyd garrison and then now i am starting um the proper narrative itself so um i don't know how far i'm gonna get through with this this actually isn't very long either but um definitely taking more time with this one and this one's just really easy to read super quickly it's a very nice kind of companion listen for sure i would say so if you're looking for something to keep you company um and just have a really nice listen to the audiobook is great as well so yeah that is everything that i'm reading at the minute and right now i'm gonna sit down and plan some videos hi guys i did not mean to fall asleep and spend like two hours on the couch but sometimes when i just have like a little rest i don't mean to nap for that long i'll just put on asmr and listen to that but recently i've been listening a lot to maria from gentle whispers gentle whispering oh no i think it's gentle whispers and i don't know what it is i'll put her videos on and like i'll just be asleep instantly asleep and then i'll wake up feeling like just kind of gross and bad as you do after you know giving your body sleep you give it what it wants and then you get scammed and then i'll just be like well i'm not going to be productive now because i'm a zombie and i go back to sleep and now just been sitting here listening to my books but even that now i'm kind of like too sleepy to do although i did listen to a few chapters of this and i'm now i think 60 pages through this i'm just so sleepy and like my brain is too tired to read tolstoy right now [Music] so i'm gonna schedule my video for tomorrow because i need to do that it's my december wrap-up hope you like it um and then i was maybe if if i can if i could do it i was thinking of uploading three videos this week just because i have a lot i wanted to get out um [Music] but we'll just have to see okay so i made my thumbnail last night if anyone is wondering or if anyone wants like a free thumbnail thing i just use canva like the free version it does everything i need it to do honestly and it works well so just thought i would mention that if anyone it was looking for something to use so let me upload my thumbnail i really wish i had um like just more brain power and energy i could put into the description box because i would love to write like many letters to you guys every week or just like tell you what's up but um just with my brain thing it's so hard right now but when i'm better okay so okay oh i'm not even typing what time is it right now it's 4 25 we misplace it and i can i'm incapable of typing and talking at the same time oh i'm gonna get my chair this week which is really exciting because i'm gonna pick it up either i think thursday or tomorrow so i'm really excited about that because i don't get to build it or like put it together and yeah i'm just really excited for the chair so i can get rid of this torture device and get my chair and yeah okay i'm going to finish this up and then i'm going to find something productive to do because i have this clothes [Music] to get back on that couch all right i made myself um a pot no what is this called a stove pot what's this called soup pot sauce pan sauce pan popcorn [Music] so [Music] hello there it is wednesday and i'm just about to get into class but what i really want to do is build this chair that came my chair finally came um and i really want to build it but i'm gonna have to sit through one more work session the last work session without this chair so i'm gonna get through class and then i will build it [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] do [Music] [Music] [Music] okay so the chair has been built i really really really really really really like it i love having arm rests i love not breaking my back i love how cushy it is it's like green um what do you call this it's definitely not velvet but it kind of looks like green velvet um it's really soft and yeah i really like it i got it from wayfair which isn't like my obviously preferred method because i always love going to thrift stores or like setting up furniture stores and finding whatever's there plus it's just a little bit more fun and it feels like an adventure but unfortunately we are in lockdown so that's what i did but i also checked my p.o box today and i got a print um from a very kind wonderful subscriber named camille thank you so much look at it look at it oh my gosh i absolutely adore this and then she wrote me a really really nice note on the back so thank you so much i'm so excited i'm gonna hang this up on my wall with my other prints and then tonight because i'm just on a roll with a chair and i really want to get up my other print finally on the wall and that's what i'm going to do so i'm going to put this one up and then i'm going to get the bigger abigail larson piece up too but i just really love this thank you so much um yeah i love it oh my gosh it's very dark academia um so and yeah i'm just really having a good time with everything i'm reading right now i'm going to read my toll story for the day and then i'm going to make some noki i think for dinner so you versus the guy she tells you not to worry about [Music] hmm [Music] [Applause] hmm [Music] good morning hi it is now thursday um i am up i've had a pretty productive morning i just took some photos for insta i wrote a to-do list i did some yoga with um kira over at the yoga corner which i'll leave down below because i really love her videos um and i've just gotten ready to film a video i think i can technically tell you what it is because it's not like a surprise or anything but carolyn and i have actually decided to do an update on our dark academia book tag that we created a year ago now which is so crazy it feels like we literally did that yesterday um but we're gonna film it again and kind of do an update answering all the questions in the original tag and just see how they may have changed or how 2020 may have answered those questions so that's what i'm just about to sit down and film i honestly really love this chair i'm so happy that um it's here and it's built and i have it just it's like my favorite color and i really really really really love it so anyway um i did finish a book last night which is what i wanted to quickly talk about i finished up convenience store woman i ended up really liking this i gave it four stars i think my only kind of critique is that it got a little bit repetitive near the end um not only in like the themes that it explored but in the way that mirada like gave a voice to her characters and specifically shiraha who kind of just started to say the same things over and over again which like i know ties into his character because he's constantly complaining about how society has failed him as a man and consequently he has never had a girlfriend he can't find any women who will go out with him or go on a date with him and so he just kind of starts to spew like almost the same exact line slow which i know also ties into his character but just with the themes that we explored and everything like that and convenience for women it did get like a little repetitive especially because it's an extremely short book but honestly like that's a very small complaint and i really really loved it on the whole something i also don't agree with though is like the taglines on the book everyone calls it hilarious sally rooney says funny thanks sally uh comical i just i don't know i really didn't find anything funny about this book i think it actually deals with really heavy discussions and heavy topic matters so like i just did not find it hilarious or funny at all i actually found it quite disturbing a lot of it um especially in the way that our protagonist keiko is treated and like yeah i just did not find it funny at all i think it explored these themes so brilliantly and like society women's place in society what society has done what jobs and like what traditional way of life is considered and prized as being like highly valuable and respected and stuff like that so i think it was a really really excellent wonderful job it also read really well it read very easily very conversational um i just really don't agree with like the things that are saying oh it's so funny it's this it's that because i don't think that's really the point of this book at all but um i really loved it and i would highly recommend so that is convenience store women so now i'm reading uh childhood boyhood youth still um frederick douglass and i want to add in another book as well because i really like reading a lot of books at the same time so after i finish filming this video i will pick out another book with you guys alright so i just finished filming the book tag so now i'm going to clean up everything put all my books away and then i'm going to sit down and really quickly answer like two or three emails so [Music] boop and now it is time for breakfast okay so i i had a piece of toast and i'm finishing up a couple clementines because i have a lot of them i need to eat but then i think i'm actually gonna order in probably later this afternoon just because like i didn't really have a big breakfast and i'm craving shawarma it's literally always what i get when i order in but yeah i think that's what i'm gonna do and right now i'm gonna pick an audio book so i i think i was speaking about her body and other parties by carmen maria machado um i started that last night right after i finished convenience store women and like there's a lot of books that like i don't want to listen to the audio of to i would rather like read it myself um sometimes because i'm not really like an audio auditory person i'm much more of a visual person i like having like the text and like some books i just really want to be able to experience textually and i think her body and other parties was one of those books because i started it and i just really wanted um to be able to read it myself so i put that down and then i was choosing from the girl who drank the moon by kelly barnhill which is a middle grade um and like i think i'm gonna read that one because it's so whimsical and chapter one was just really really nice and then i think i'm gonna put pick maybe another one as well so i'll let you know but at the minute it's definitely the girl who drank the moon like i think that's what i want so yeah okay so hi guys i have now had my shawarma and i'm very sleepy um but i think what i'm gonna do i might have a nap first or maybe i'll read first and then have a nap but i'm gonna read my tolstoy section for the day i'm really getting through this we're almost done i'm on page 285 i think i have a little over 100 pages left on this um i really gotta say like if you can see the orange tabs they're basically things that i really dislike about this book and as you can see like hopefully at the beginning there there were no orange tabs until i got to youth and then literally almost every single one has been orange um and i have a lot to talk about and i think either tonight or tomorrow i'm gonna sit down with my tolstoy like binder and notebook that i created for the the book love the debate and then actually transcribe my points and all of that into like proper thoughts and um things because i'm getting kind of nervous for it and i just want to be prepared so um yeah but i just made some green tea so i'm gonna drink this maybe read a little bit or listen to the girl who drank the moon because like i'm in such a mood for like a really whimsical soft middle grade and i'm literally i think 20 minutes through but i'm really really enjoying it i have really high hopes for this book i think i can tell i'm gonna like it so yeah i'm loving that that's what i'm gonna do um if this is the end of
