What do you call and old snowman? A glass of water. The movie opens in Bruges, Belgium, with two
Irish hitmen, Ray and Ken, observing the city. Ken admires Bruges, but Ray dislikes it. They're in Bruges to hide after a job gone
wrong in London, waiting for instructions from their boss, Harry. Unsure how long they'll stay, Ray is frustrated
at the thought of spending two weeks there, especially over Christmas, with only one room
available for them. Early on, Ken hints at the London incident,
causing Ray to retreat and cry, overwhelmed by their situation. Ray complains about being sent to Bruges instead
of somewhere like the Bahamas. Ken suggests they explore, starting with climbing
a city tower, but Ray refuses, visibly upset. Ken goes alone but is annoyed when he's a
coin short of the 5 Euro entrance fee and the cashier won't let it slide. Reluctantly, Ken breaks a 50 Euro note for
the fee. At the tower's top, Ken enjoys the view and
spots Ray below, making a playful gun gesture at him, hinting at their job as hitmen. In the square, Ray is approached by a large
American family asking if he's climbed the tower. Ray rudely declines, hinting they shouldn't
either due to their size. After a tense exchange, Ray bluntly calls
them "bleeping elephants," provoking the father to futilely chase him. The chase ends quickly, and the family, insulted,
decides to climb the tower anyway. They encounter Ken, who unknowingly warns
them about the narrow stairs, only to be insulted. Ray acts clueless when Ken sees the upset
family. That evening, Ray and Ken come across a movie
shoot in Bruges, catching Ray's attention with a dwarf actor involved, which he finds
amusing. Spotting Chloe, Ray is smitten, mistakenly
thinking she's famous. While Ken returns to check for messages from
their boss, Harry, Ray sneaks onto the set and flirts with Chloe, who corrects him that
dwarves is the preferred term. Ray meets the dwarf actor, Jimmy, showing
blatant fascination. After a chat, Ray asks Chloe out, and she
leaves her calling card, making Ray thrilled. Back at the hotel, Ken finds a message from
their boss, Harry, left by the pregnant hotel owner. Harry is angry they missed his call, using
strong language in the note. Ken, embarrassed, decides to sleep. Ray returns, noisy and eager to share about
his night and upcoming date with Chloe. Despite wanting to sleep, Ken listens and
tells Ray about Harry's call, agreeing to wait for another call so Ray can go on his
date, in exchange for sightseeing together. Their interaction shows Ken's fatherly fondness
for Ray, though neither openly expresses it. Ken and Ray visit an ancient church, where
Ken explains its historical significance, suggesting that touching part of the church
might be akin to touching something divine. He hints this could be a chance for Ray to
find redemption for past mistakes. Ray, uninterested or unwilling to engage,
walks out, leaving Ken disappointed. Outside, Ray spots Jimmy across the street,
excitedly waves, but gets ignored, which annoys him. In a flashback to the incident in London,
Ray, in a confessional, admits to a priest he's a hitman who kills for money. Shockingly, he then says "You" to the priest
and shoots him. As the priest stumbles and falls, revealing
"a little boy" with a tragic gunshot wound, it's clear one of Ray's bullets has accidentally
killed a young child praying in the church. The boy, with innocent intentions written
in a note, dies, marking a haunting mistake. This grave error is why Harry sent Ray and
Ken to Bruges and haunts Ray with deep guilt and sorrow. During dinner, Ray and Chloe's conversation
turns unexpectedly candid, with Ray admitting he's a hitman and Chloe revealing she sells
drugs to movie sets. Neither is bothered by the other's illicit
job. Ray's lack of tact shows when he insults Bruges,
Chloe's hometown, and makes an offensive joke about Belgium. Rather than being offended, Chloe matches
Ray's blunt demeanor. When Chloe leaves for the bathroom, a nearby
diner, already bothered by Chloe's smoking, comments on how "unbelievable" she is. Ray confronts a diner who complains about
Chloe smoking, pointing out they're in a smoking section. The argument escalates, touching on politics
and assumptions about nationality, leading to Ray physically confronting both the man
and his girlfriend. When Chloe returns and sees the commotion,
they leave the restaurant together. Ray worries Chloe will dislike him for the
violence, but instead, she kisses him, showing interest, and then makes a phone call, hinting
at future significance. At Chloe's apartment, as Ray and Chloe are
about to become intimate, her boyfriend Erik surprises them with a gun to Ray's head, revealing
their plan to rob tourists. Ray, more frustrated about his interrupted
intimacy than the gun, learns that Chloe actually didn't want to rob him, indicating her feelings
for him. In a swift move, Ray disarms Erik, discovering
the gun has blanks. He fires a blank at Erik's eye, causing him
pain without serious injury. Erik's reaction is more pathetic than threatening. Chloe, still showing interest in Ray, takes
Erik to the hospital but asks Ray to call her. Harry calls Ken, who lies about Ray being
in the bathroom to avoid revealing he's on a date. Harry's questions become oddly specific, leading
to a conversation about Bruges's beauty. Pretending Ray is there, Ken engages in a
fake conversation to satisfy Harry's curiosity about Ray's feelings towards Bruges. Ken invents a story that Ray finds Bruges
dreamlike, pleasing Harry, who hints he wants Ray to enjoy something beautiful because of
a past good nature, inadvertently signaling a sinister plan against Ray for accidentally
killing a boy. Harry insists Ken must kill Ray, revealing
they've arranged for a gun to be picked up in Bruges for this purpose. Ken is torn, knowing Ray's guilt but believing
in his potential for redemption. Ken, troubled by his orders to kill Ray, drowns
his worries with Belgian beers at a bar, where he sees Jimmy with a prostitute. Upon chatting, Ken learns Jimmy is American
and jokes about keeping the conversation civil. Ray joins them, questioning Jimmy about an
earlier snub, which Jimmy blames on being drugged. The group, including two prostitutes, ends
up in Jimmy's hotel room. The night spirals as Jimmy rants about a racial
apocalypse, angering Ken, who shares he had a black wife who was killed by a white man,
challenging Jimmy's divisive views. This reveals Ken as a deeply loving yet conflicted
man. The night ends with Ken and Ray returning
to their hotel, distancing themselves from the unsettling conversation. Ken picks up a gun to fulfill the order to
kill Ray, receiving unsolicited advice from an eccentric contact about a secluded spot
in the park ideal for murder. Annoyed, Ken leaves for the apartment where
he learns from the hotel owner about Ray's odd behavior and his generous gesture before
heading to the park, presumably to end his life. Finding a suicide note Ray left, Ken hurries
to the park, finding Ray ready to commit suicide. As Ken prepares to shoot Ray from behind,
Ray aims his own gun at his head, caught in a moment of despair. When Ken sees Ray about to commit suicide,
he intervenes, leading to a tense moment where Ray realizes Ken was also prepared to kill
him. They confront the gravity of their actions,
and it's clear Ken can't go through with either killing Ray or letting him die by suicide. Ken urges Ray to flee Bruges, start anew,
and hints at redemption by possibly saving someone else's life. He reveals Harry's plan for Ray's final days,
ironically in a city Ray despises. Understanding the risk Ken takes by sparing
him, Ray is moved. Ken returns the 200 Euros to Ray, disarms
him to prevent any suicide attempt, and ensures he boards a train to safety. As the train departs with Ray, Ken decides
to confront Harry at the hotel, informing him of his disobedience. Ken suggests they meet in the square, anticipating
Harry's retribution. On the train, Ray thinks he's escaping Bruges
until a steward confronts him over an alleged assault, led by the previous night's diner,
who turns out to be a disgruntled Canadian, not an American. Identified as the attacker, Ray is removed
from the train and ends up in jail, ironically back in Bruges. Chloe pays for Ray's release, and they grab
a beer in the city center, oblivious to Harry's arrival from London to confront Ken. Harry visits the gun contact, who's also Erik's
uncle, and finds Erik there, now permanently blinded from the blank shot incident. Harry blames Erik for his own misfortune,
arguing it was the result of his reckless actions. Meanwhile, Ray and Chloe enjoy their time
at an outdoor café until Jimmy, the dwarf actor, invites them to a movie set. They pass on the offer, sharing a moment of
amusement over Jimmy's costume. Harry finds Ken in the square, and with Ken
accepting his fate, he suggests they go to the tower. They unknowingly walk past Chloe and Ray without
noticing each other. At the tower, the guard/cashier refuses them
entry, citing a recent incident. Harry, requesting a favor, is met with firm
refusal. Ken, anticipating Harry's reaction, moves
ahead as Harry violently confronts the guard. At the tower top, Harry and Ken admire the
view. Surprisingly, Ken surrenders his gun, refusing
to fight due to his deep respect for Harry. Harry, moved by Ken's words, claims he can't
shoot him now. However, they debate over Ray's fate, with
Harry arguing Ray should've taken his own life for his mistake, while Ken believes in
Ray's potential for redemption. In a moment of frustration, Harry shoots Ken
in the thigh, a non-fatal wound, as a penalty for letting Ray escape. Despite this, Harry assists Ken down the tower
steps. Meanwhile, Erik, spotting Chloe and Ray, decides
to ignore their invitation to join them. Erik informs Harry and Ken at the tower that
Ray is back in Bruges. Upon hearing this, both Harry and Ken draw
their guns, Ken aiming to protect Ray and Harry to enforce his order. In the ensuing scuffle, Harry shoots Ken in
the neck, causing severe bleeding but not immediate death. Harry rushes downstairs, and despite his grave
injury, Ken struggles back to the tower top, leaving behind a trail of blood. Attempting to warn Ray amidst foggy conditions
and unable to see clearly, Ken drops coins from the tower to attract attention. This act draws the gaze of bystanders, including
Ray and Chloe. Ken then jumps from the tower, landing with
a fatal impact. Ray, witnessing the fall, rushes to a critically
wounded Ken, realizing too late it's his friend. Ken, dying, tells Ray that Harry is in Bruges
and instructs him to take his gun. Distraught, Ray finds the gun broken from
the fall. Desperate for a weapon, Ray asks about Erik's
gun, but Ken dies before he can answer. Harry arrives, sees Ken dead, and Ray fleeing. Ray dashes towards the hotel, believing the
gun is hidden there, while Harry chases him, shooting despite bystanders. At the hotel, Ray grabs the room key and warns
the pregnant proprietress to find safety. Upstairs, he retrieves the gun, then hears
the proprietress confronting Harry downstairs. Moved by her bravery, Harry is momentarily
stalled. Ray, concerned for her safety, suggests moving
their fight away from the hotel. They awkwardly agree to a plan involving the
canal next to the hotel: Ray will jump into it from his room window, while Harry tries
to shoot him from a bridge. After a tense moment, Ray leaps into a passing
boat, thinking he's safe, but Harry manages to shoot him from the bridge, hitting him
in the stomach. Ray, injured, disembarks from the boat and
tries to escape, with Harry in pursuit. Their chase leads to the set of Jimmy's movie,
filled with actors in odd costumes, creating a surreal atmosphere. As Ray and Jimmy meet, Harry shoots Ray in
the back, mirroring the earlier incident with the priest. Ray's last words echo that tragedy, "a little
boy," before he stumbles to Jimmy, who has been fatally struck by a stray bullet and
is dressed in a childlike costume, his face disfigured. Mistaking Jimmy for a real child, Harry, adhering
to his own strict moral code, commits suicide. In the final scene, Chloe cries out as Ray
is placed on a gurney and into an ambulance. Ray's voiceover reflects on Heaven, Hell,
and Purgatory, expressing a singular wish not to die in Bruges. If you enjoyed this video, don't be shy to
