join me as I take you on a day trip through the Amish country [Music] [Music] hi I'm Julie keeper of my home welcome back to my channel today my husband has the day off so we've decided to go on a little trip to the Amish country there's two different communities we have near us one is a little further south and one is just around the corner a little north of us so there's this really great store south of us that we don't get to very often and that's where we're going to right now it a great place to buy bulk food items and other things and we just love going there like I said we don't get there very often but when we do we always buy a bunch of thing a lot of different cooking items I fill my pantry whenever I go there so it's just a really great place and I'm gonna show you here in just a few minutes what they have inside [Music] [Music] their shelves are filled with all kinds of things that you would get co-op items really they bag them all up in different sizes and you can pick whichever one and of whatever you need and and buy it has so many different things a lot of cooking items you never want to go to this store on an empty stomach we have been telling you you would buy them out stuff and the prices are amazing so much better than you would get in your grocery store which is just one of the many reasons why we like coming here something I always make sure to buy when I'm down here is walnut and pecans I use a lot of nuts in my cooking and those are two things that are definitely less expensive than my regular grocery store [Music] as you can see they have quite an array of different items they have children's items and hardware items cooking items I mean they just have a huge array everything you can think of because this is pretty much a general store so anything that you can think of that you mean they probably have it [Music] I love looking at the kids toys all of these toys are I know they're like toys their throwback broke they're like vintage toys they all use your mind in your imagination there's no electronics here I love that [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay now we're headed back up north we're going to go to another little community that we like to just go driving around they do have a store there and I will show you that but we're not going to go into that one that's more or less just baking items and things but I just want to take you through this community pretty much just to show you how the Amish really live I mean it it's just an incredibly simple way of life and you really get to see that but right now my husband thought you'd like to see the mountain where he grew up skiing our boys also grew up skiing here and a little tidbit this is the first place that the Sun rises in the east over Big Rock Mountain look it up it's a great place and look at that view it's amazing just imagine how much better it would be from the top of the mountain okay so here's the little store I was telling you about this just has baked goods and like baking items it's really small nothing like the other one so we're not going to stop there we're gonna head up over the hill to the community we love to go driving through in the summer in the winter and kind of like a box of chocolates like Forrest Gump says you just never know what you're going to get so driving through here you never know what their day is going to be like so you never know who you're going to meet along the way this farm belongs to Dan and Lydia Yoder they're friends of ours they have 14 children they're wonderful people and look they've got goat I love goat [Music] okay so let's head back down the road home look there's an Amish buggy let me slow this down a little bit so you can see better don't blink you just might miss them and look they're hanging it is hang season up here oh my gosh can you imagine sitting that high up on there no way oh my gosh look at that I cannot imagine can you like I said the box of chocolate you just never know what you're gonna get when you drive through here but it's all just amazing and beautiful I mean just look at the scenery it's gorgeous here my husband and I were recently told that there's going to be a few more Amish families moving into this area we can't wait to see the building process the barn raisings those are the best if you stay to the end of this video then you'll see some pictures we took of Dan and Lydia's barn raising a few years back [Music] [Applause] [Music] like I said it's hang he's in here right now and there's lots of hay wagons on the road [Music] look at this isn't this amazing I mean this was a really hot day it's in the mid-80s here and the humidity is horrible I cannot imagine doing this and in long pants and long sleeve shirt yeah not for me okay so let's head back down the road a little bit and look at some more of the farms and I apologize for the bouncing in the videos the roads were pretty bad going through here so not all of my footage is very stable and I apologize for that I was holding my camera and it's just sometimes it's really hard to hold it still and I did have my husband slow down a few times but we had a lot of traffic behind us too and we didn't want to hold them up so again I do apologize [Music] I'm gonna have my husband pull over here on the side of the road so you can see this I just zoomed in there was a couple of Amish women and they were pulling the horses around I'm not sure what they were doing with them they look like they were unhitching them or maybe hitching them up to a wagon I'm not sure I can't see on the other side but I thought this was something that you'd like to see and this woman I'm not sure where she's going maybe to the outhouse maybe to feed the animals I'm not sure but I thought it'd be fun to just watch her on her walk [Music] look at this lumberyard they cut lumber not just for themselves but if you want to buy lumber you can always approach them and they'll cut it for you look well now I'm going to slow this down be careful not to blink you might miss the Amish girl mowing her lawn did you see her I apologize I was so busy filming out the window that I didn't look ahead to see what was coming so I didn't have any idea that she was out mowing her lawn until I came across it and when I reviewed the video I made sure to slow it down for you so hopefully you did see it many of these places have a purpose and it's kind of like a small village so you can see on the sign everything that this place has to offer and there's all kinds of different ones I'll try to show you signs as we go through here as we see them here's another hang guy and look at this he's got his dog with them that dog seems to be leading the horses right in the right direction I was just this is incredible to watch them work it really is we stood out here for quite a while and just watch them it's just so beautiful look at the scenery the day couldn't have been more perfect I mean the blue sky it was absolutely beautiful [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh look beet greens I love beet green let's stop in and get some [Music] I had my husband get the vegetable me Amish don't take too kindly to cameras so I figured I better stay in the car and be a little nonchalant in my filming [Applause] two bunches of beet green one for us and one for my father-in-law [Music] and she's in her bare feet the majority of the Amish go barefoot all summer long I cannot imagine how tough the bottoms of their feet must be [Music] I'm not real sure what this little guy was doing in the barn but he was pulling on a rope and he was just hauling on that thing I slowed it down to try and see but I'm not sure what he was doing this is a beautiful working farm it just it's just beautiful out here their farms are amazing they don't always build their own houses a lot of them have bought an old farm houses and just not use the electricity in them and just made them so that they're efficient for them and what they do in their lifestyle [Music] this part of the video is a little bit blurry but I really wanted you to see this gardener isn't it beautiful and this is one of the smaller Gardens that we've seen the Amish have all of the women and some of the older children work in the garden and the men work in the field it's just amazing to see them how everybody has you know their own chore that they do they're there everything is specific and everybody has a chore from the smallest age to the oldest age everybody does something here's another sign like I said there's different farms that have different I don't know what you want to call it somebody might do like this one said tack repair there's some that do metal you can actually get metal roofing from them there's some that are lumber yards there's some that are butchers everybody you know furniture everybody has something different that they do like I said it's like a little village like a small community and it's just absolutely amazing how they've made all of this work I mean I would love to be Amish just to belong to part of this village if the community here is just absolutely amazing [Music] and a little update we're still working on my big reveal it hasn't been finished yet like I said my carpenter is only working one or two days a week so this is a really long ongoing process but I promise you soon really really soon as I promised here are some of the pictures of the barn-raising at the Yoder's farm thank you for watching if you enjoyed today's video leave me a thumbs up and if you're new consider subscribing I'm really trying to hit a thousand subscribers so help me on this journey by sharing my videos with your friends and until next time [Music]
