on the high seas the highest post on the sub is usually tops for its crew trying to be up here than anywhere else when we're service good view kids up son the bridge is a luxury because even though it's a huge ocean these guys are forced to live and work extremely small about that corner below deck Austin Eggman variances on two thirds submarine errs are packed in like sardines especially when they sleep well this is what we got to sleep in last night first of all it was just a challenge just getting in this bed you can see just how small it is from my elbow to my fingertip so there's a challenge getting in the bed it was also a challenge sleeping in the bed a lot of banging my elbows banging my head banging my knees exactly a great night's sleep a crew of 130 there aren't enough beds to go around so many junior sailors aboard the USS Toledo share their rack or bunk with another guy as soon as he wakes up I go lay down my sheets and they get in the wreck haha tracking some wrecks always warm for you I guess the boat's captain gets his own rack and his own room but his bed is hardly deluxe there's time to go to bed the table folds up these uh jeeps fold down my bed comes out of the wall so that's where I sleep you don't even get a queen-size you know that's it same sized rack as everybody else right here we have dumbbells submarine errs make do guys will come down here and put a bench down here and do curls some of the conveniences of life on land are on board the Toledo just different this is what we call a head on in the Navy you're gonna do your business then you're gonna pull the ball valve open it's gonna let all your your whatever you disposed of down you're open it up let it flush for just a little bit you're gonna shut that guy back up add a little water for the next guy this is the laundry room the boats laundromat we have one washer one dryer for the entire crew and one person in your watching laundry at all times really event of a possible fire in the dryer you're sick very cute a submarine ursday is 18 hours lit three ways six-on-six studying and six sleeping entertainment includes card games Castlevania video games or a flick in the mess hall there are Sunday services we're all sinners there's even a smoking section on the sub do this guy that's good in tight spaces bow ladder submarine errs develop certain skills a lot of times this couch is going on you got to get where you got to get fast and that's one of the best ways and nothing's ever easy that ladder I got down got Dara slow yeah there there's a lone friction right there in the Navy submarine errs are known as double volunteers they first volunteer for the military and then volunteer for subs sonic open up very often completely submerged no communication with family for more than three months at a time there's got to be incentives to do this the perks include faster promotion and bonus pay it's a good way to see the world
